We stayed at Avondale Guest House for two nights in August. Our host Carole greeted us when we arrived and quickly made us feel welcome. Both Carole and Wendy went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. It was like a home-from-home.
We were in a top-floor room - a lot of stairs to get there, but well worth the effort. It was a good-sized room with a double and a single bed, so perfect for myself and my two young children. The beds were comfortable, and the quiet at night ensured a good night's sleep. The bathroom was very new looking, very clean and spacious. The attic windows looked out across the rooftops of York towards Rowntree Park.
The home-cooked breakfast was superb and we were able to select from a wide variety breakfast options. The whiskey porridge is a must-try item - delicious - best porridge I have ever tasted. It set me up for the day.
The location is excellent - within walking distance of York’s main attractions - and it has free-parking - something hard to get with accommodation within the centre of York.
On future trips to York, this will be the place I will always want to stay :-)
