The condo is in the relatively small and very quiet Sotogrande resort within the larger Cap Cana resort complex. Access to Cap Cana is closely restricted, so it's very secure and private. Sotogrande is a very nice resort, although with limited amenities--only one restaurant, plus a snack bar and a bar at the pool. Everything is very scenic and well maintained, and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Interactions with the owner, Mr. Novack, were all very helpful and pleasant. Coffee on the balcony in the morning looking out over the pool and the Atlantic were always a good way to start the day.
Other resorts in Cap Cana are a short cab ride or bike ride away, and add options for restaurants and bars. We particularly enjoyed Juanillo's Beach, located next to Sanctuary Resort just to the north of Sotogrande, just 5 minutes away. There is a good open air restaurant there, a lovely beach and bar service--it's a good way to spend a day.
Note that access to other resort areas, outside Cap Cana, can be challenging unless you have are visiting a guest there. All the resorts control access closely, so getting to the beach in other areas can be a challenge.
There's a good grocery store (the Nacional) at Punta Cana village, and some banks there as well for safe ATM access.
