We were disappointed that the property was not in Key Largo as advertised - it was actually a 20-minute car ride away (in good traffic). It’s actually closer to Homestead on the mainland.
Do not book this property as a travelling family expecting to use the onsite laundry facilities. I spent Christmas Day in a coin laundry in Homestead and another in Key Largo another day because the key to the laundry is apparently only granted to guests staying 7+ nights. The key given to us for use of the pool did not work either, so we had to jump the pool fence.
We had to contact the owners about the wifi, as it was not “unlimited” as promised. However, this was rectified during our stay (but the owner entered the property while we were out, without our permission - not OK).
We could not adjust the fan speed or temperature of the air-conditioning in the property, nor could we turn it off when it was freezing, because the a/c unit is locked in a box. Also, you can’t open any windows or doors, and we were instructed by the owners not to leave the front door open at any time.
Toilet paper is not allowed to be flushed down the toilet and there is no communal toilet block to use instead, like a campground or RV park. Instead, were told to put all toilet paper in a bin without a lid beside the toilet. This was absolutely disgusting, especially for “number 2s” and I’m sure this arrangement would not pass inspection by health authorities. The owners did not provide enough bags for toilet waste, so we had to use plastic bags from our own grocery shopping.
Due to the toilet issue and lack of fresh air, you can imagine how the property smelt, especially when the a/c unit was not blasting air.
A few fish were caught with the rods provided by the owners, but note that bait must be bought in Key Largo, as there are no shops in the vicinity of the property.
Take your insect repellent, as there are “no-see-ums” or midgy things that bite day and night.
The neighbours who live there party late into the night, with loud latin music and smoke. But the lady nextdoor and her son who serves as interpreter are nice.
I felt somewhat harrassed by the owner in the days and hours leading up to our arrival about confirming our ETA. That was annoying, as we were travelling at leisure from the Everglades where there is patchy reception.
I would NOT recommend this property to anyone. Sorry.
