My family and I stayed 9 nights at Sweet Inn Apartments- Flagey property in Brussels, Belgium. After a long trip from the United States, we arrived late in the evening to find the apartment had not been cleaned. Very disappointing. We immediately contacted Expedia.com and Sweet Inn Apartments regarding the cleanliness issue. Neither companies had customer service representatives that could resolve the issue to our satisfaction. My family and I ended up purchasing cleaning supplies and cleaning the apartment ourselves. The cleanliness issues consisted of dust bunnies, cobwebs with insects entangled in them above the door frames and along the corner of the walls and ceiling. The previous guest left beer cans in the courtyard that were not thrown away. The biggest problem came from the gnat infestation. We could not drink a glass of water, use the restroom, cook, etc. without a gnat flying near or in front of us. The smoke detectors had been removed and the kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans were removed. The apartment DOES NOT have air conditioning, and the windows do not have screens to keep bugs out, but that is typical of Belgium. If you have a rental car, use the apartment's underground parking garage. Otherwise, you will not have a place to park. Street parking is fierce! Even more distressing, on the morning of our departure, someone parked in front of the parking garage driveway. We were blocked in. We called the police to have the car towed, barely making our flight!!!
Gut: The size of the apartment was enough to accommodate a family of four.
Nicht so gut: Overall cleanliness. Apartments should be thoroughly checked for cleanliness prior to guest arriving; add no parking signs in front of the garage.
Lage: The Flagley area of Brussels is the only ethnically diverse working-class portion of Brussels; has lots of small bars, markets, fruit stands, etc.
