„I liked this hotel very much. It was warm and welcoming and the staff were friendly and very helpful if you needed anything.
The breakfast was amazing, fresh and cooked to perfection. The bar meals were very good to and all reasonably priced. I would most definitely stay here again as it felt like one big happy and homely place to stay. Would recommend it to all friends and family. “

No phone makes it extremely difficult for overseas visitors to contact reception. Even the charming lady on reception who confirmed that these amenities were not offered in the hotel states that they were a budget hotel ‘but maybe not - we are quite expensive’. “

„when I arrived I had had a bad experience at a earlier hotel I stayed at. Top floor room,steep stairway from ground floor and toilet on an other level. So when I arrived early at the waverley the staff very kindly switched me to a ground floor room when I told them of my previous hotel difficulties. The waverley did not do evening meals but invited me to use a take away and bring it back to hotel where a plate and cutlery would be provided for me to use which was very kind.“

The bathroom was clean and the shower worked well. There was ample free parking outside. We were attending a show in Stoke on Trent and it was just under £10 for a taxi to the theatre. Would recommend this place to anyone needing a clean and comfortable place to stay. “

"Champneys Mottram Hall – Wellness Retreat or Overpriced Sauna?
We were really looking forward to a relaxing night at Champneys Mottram Hall. For over £200 a night, you’d expect comfort. Instead, we got a masterclass in how not to do hospitality.
We asked to see a room first — after reading quite a few bad reviews (which turned out to be accurate). The room they showed us was fine… but then it wasn’t available anymore. So we booked another one, slightly cheaper, still overpriced.
It wasn’t even ready, despite being listed as available online. We were sent to the restaurant to wait, where the only food was burgers and fries — at a wellness resort. Classy.
When we finally got the room key, we stepped into what felt like a furnace — at least 40°C, no air conditioning, barely openable windows, and a tiny desk fan trying to cool it down. Outside the window? A wall of deafening industrial ventilators.
The room was loud, boiling, and totally unfit for sleep or rest. If I wanted to be roasted alive next to jet engines, I’d have booked a Ryanair tarmac picnic.
Save your money. This isn’t luxury — it’s a loud, sweaty disappointment dressed up as a spa break.

Bad ohne Fenster und ohne funktionierende Belüftung, die Dusche hatte überall Schimmel. Matratze durchgelegen, man hat jeden einzelnen Bestandteil gespürt.

"Classy Hotel in an 18th Century Georgian architectural landmark which was saved by the Hotel Company. Went there first on a rushed business trip and went back half a year later to enjoy it finally with my partner. The pool is warm and not exactly for a sporty swimmer, but is nice with the opportunity to swim outdoors. Beds and Breakfast are excellent and up to the price. After finding the south of England more and more crowded, the Peak District is an area I was happy to discover."
"This Hilton has rooms which are clean and quiet, beds are good but no option to ventilate the room. The restaurant facilities can’t be worse: at opening time of the restaurant we ordered food and 10 minutes later you are told to order something else because they ran out of it. As we had chosen something else, the response was: “Is THAT all, you want nothing else?” In a very arrogant way. Then they even expect a tip afterwards. During Checkout, the receptionists were unable to produce an invoice. I wanted to know how much and for what I would be charged. This was the wrong question as the receptionist in jogging-trousers became very unfriendly. This is not what I’m used to experience in a Hilton Hotel!"
