A very strange experience at the STG Hotel Oxford Street, formally the St Giles Hotel!
ELEVATORS: Ask for a lower floor so you can use the stairs. The elevators are very slow and busy, at all times of the day. It's a huge hotel. CHECK-IN: Do so online. Management removed the reception -- yes, it's now a large empty room. There's no self-serve option either. Check-in was two guys sharing one old laptop and no printer for receipts. ROOMS: Heating did not work. Unusual layout. Small windows. But reasonably comfortable (hard) beds. The various rooms types are likely not worth the difference. BREAKFAST: Excellent buffet, tasty food, large selection.
OUR EXPERIENCE: Within the one month from booking our room, to online check-in, to our four-night stay, and finally to checkout, the hotel amenities and offers decreased significantly. We booked a full-service hotel and received a hotel in transition, where basics like a registration desk, in-room kettles/tea/coffee, etc., no longer existed. The hotel is now aimed at large student groups, not couples nor families. Hopefully they will choose a concept and implement it quickly. Personally, I'd recommend waiting until then to decide on booking.
