We travelled as a family of 4 (including a tween and a teen). Our room had 2 king sized beds, a desk and a sitting area, which gave us plenty of room to sleep and hang out between activities. The bathroom was clean and well-appointed, with a nice walk-in shower and towel warmer. I was pleased to find an iron and hair dryer in good condition, as well as a nice selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. We used the gym, which was also clean and had a good selection of equipment. The buffet breakfast in the morning had a decent selection, including gluten- and dairy-free options for me. The staff was friendly and helpful hotel-wide. The distance from the town centre is also perfect for walking to and from the hotel. We’ll definitely come back if we’re in the area!

The stay began badly when it became apparent that the booking information had not been correctly transferred by Expedia. Our breakfast and dinner included choice wasn't detected by reception staff so we had to explain at almost every meal that we'd chosen the half board option. The room condition was shabby, especially peeling paint in the shower cubicle; no TV remote which was delivered on request. Having been out on Saturday we returned to find the car park overfull with cars everywhere including yellow lines. This added to the insult of having to pay £30 for the privilege of parking; the parking controller was able to find a temporary space. Dinner was a disaster, not for the food which was excellent, but the intolerable noise level caused by the concurrent wedding music, background muzak throughout the hotel and a number of raucous guests. I asked a waiter to get the background music turned down but no change. It was an acoustic assault which spoilt the meal. Overall, the Majestic hotel did not live up to its name and it was a great disappointment for what should have been an enjoyable 50th wedding celebration.

Seriously overpriced. We paid £220 per night for 3 nights in a deluxe room. I am still looking for the deluxe. Bog standard would be a more accurate description of our room. Our view was the grimy roof of a large warehouse.

Booked for an occasion - asked & paid for specific things on arrival, and was let down as these were not fully implemented. Evening meal in restaurant - informed at the outset certain things were not available. We then placed our drinks orders, at the time of order the meal - for the waitress to then come back 5 mins later to inform us that one of the drinks was also not available. Came to order dessert - to be yet again informed 1st choice of our order was not available. Also, disappointed to arrive and find out that there is also now a £15 per night parking charge... Overall a mediocre experience & not something one would expect from part of the Hilton chain

Lovely, welcoming and elegant hotel - slow service
A lovely, well located hotel (at least for the theatre) with an elegant feeling - rooms were large and luxurious - for the UK at least! Very comfy beds/pillows and great quality sheets. Service was understanding and kind - if slow. The checking in system was very slow and this is apparently quite normal (according to staff!). And not welcome coming in after a 36 hour journey from abroad.. Lots of local people in and out for both bar, afternoon tea and spa.

Poor spa and hotel. Not a happy customer
Hotel was not very clean or what you would expect for a doubletree/ Hilton. Our room was not made up on several occasions (and we didn’t leave a dnd card out either) , twice we had to ask for our room to be cleaned , or ask for towels and toilet paper. We had to wait for 2hrs on one occasion when getting back from a long day out for our room to be cleaned (as they had not done it during the day) and they still didn’t give us towels or toilet paper. They left us in the bar and didn’t even offer a complimentary drink had to spend £35 on drinks whilst we waited to pass the time. They just are not attentive to your needs. Hotel is run down and not clean. Floors are filthy and so are table tops. Plus side food was ok/ breakfast nice. Spa is average and had cold hot tub inside and out. Would not go there again and have made a formal complaint. Spent £800 for 3nights and two lots of spa treatments for a couple. We don’t usually moan or complain but this was a lot of money and we felt it just didn’t live up to expectations or cleanliness for the money which is a shame

Disappointing for the Price
Check in took too long as there was a long queue. Then they charged me £12 for parking in their carpark. If you’re going to charge then state there’s a charge on your website rather than saying parking is available. Hotel looks very old with very dour grey wallpaper and carpet. Room was a very nice size and bed was OK but the heating system looked like it was from the 70’s and the room was cold at night. Far too expensive for the facilities on offer.

Staff were excellent in manner and performance. The hotel had a tired look. The disability facilities were not up to scratch - lifts would have been too small to easily fit a wheelchair. The design of the bathroom left much to be desired.

Great place but missing finer details...
The hotel itself was immaculate. Reception area was very grand and we were given a welcome cookie which was a lovely touch. As the break went on though it was clear the finer details had been missed... When we checked in we were not made aware that there was a function taking place on the second night of our stay which resulted in loud music being played until midnight. This was not a problem however not once was this mentioned to us upon check in which would have been the courteous thing to do. Our room was located just above reception and due to it's location we heard every beat of the music which took the shine off our Valentine's night. Surely with the size of the hotel, we could have been situated away from the function room and its guests?.. Other small details were missed as well, for example we ordered room service and ordered two bottles of Coke. The server dropped them off but left nothing to open the bottles with so I had to go down to the bar and ask for them to be opened which was an inconvenience on what should have been a relaxing trip. One more thing to bear in mind is there are no cubicles to get changed in for the swimming pool, it's either a communal male or female area which isn't ideal for all. Overall it was a nice stay however it felt let down but the minor details.

The birthday treat.
We stayed at the hotel it was a surprise trip to Harrogate for my wife,s birthday. The hotel was lovely and the staff friendly, we found a birthday card and balloons in the room which was a nice gesture. At night we noticed excessive dust on the bedroom wall paper, we were able to write our names in it! Before we checked out we showed the duty manager who agreed with us that it was unacceptable. He refunded our car parking fee and was going to show the dust to the house keeping team, assuring us that the room would be properly cleaned. The Spa is very nice and the breakfast was ok.

Brilliant front desk service, I was not impressed with the first room allotted to me and they kindly changed it without any question. They were friendly and informative about the parking and breakfast. Breakfast was good, although would expect full range of coffee options for decaf too. And needed a better fruit selection. The place we ate breakfast in was beautifully presented, staff were very attentive. In general though I was really disappointed with how run down the hotel was, the carpet in the main staircase was stained, the room I was initially allocated on the 2nd floor had single glazed, metal edged windows with black mould round them, worse in the bathroom. The carpet was tired and the furniture old and dated. The noise from the industrial extractor units outside the room was the worst point, and that was why I requested a change. My new room on the fourth floor was much better, modern furniture and bathroom and good views over the city. Overall not the quality I was expecting from the star rating and the price paid, especially as it was mid January!

Not the NYE we had planned
I wouldn’t normally be leaving a review, but after trying to contact the hotel and constantly getting the phone put down on me today, I thought I’d come here instead. They charged me twice for the room as I used a different card. I went straight down and they told me they’d sorted it. I then went back up to my room (which smelt awful due to the drains/sewer smell coming from the bathroom) as I had just been informed the spa was closed that evening. When we went the next day, the pools were freezing (including both hot tubs) to the point we just went home. Not a good experience. After a few days, I noticed they still hadn’t refunded me so I rang them up. They assured me this would be refunded and that it may just be my bank but as it’s a credit card should only take a few days. It’s now been a week and they are not picking up the phone. Does anyone have any advice? Both statements don’t even say pending - should I just contact my bank? I wouldn’t stay here again - very expensive for what you get!

Disappointing and hot
We had an OK stay at this hotel. The building and lobby are beautiful but the rest feels like it’s old and falling apart. Our room was old fashioned, very few plug sockets and incredibly hot (even in winter). Neither of us had a good night sleep when we were there due to the heat and the overly soft mattress and pillows. The walls and carpet had a couple of blood stains too and overall we just felt like this hotel wasn’t up to the Hilton standard. The Spa was nice but gets crowded quickly but definitely a nice perk to the hotel. The location was great and shops etc are easily accessible but we won’t be returning again.

Room was inadequate
We have stayed at this hotel every year at this time for 3 years. This trip was booked in June. I feel that the room we were allocated was appalling. If I had booked last minute then I could maybe understand that but it was booked 6 months ago. The room was tiny. No plug sockets available next to the bed. Only 1 spare plug socket on dressing table and 1 on the floor by the door! This caused issues with charging things. The room was directly above the bins. There was noise from this all day and night with empties being taken out. I feel like we were an after thought despite booking well in advance. We spoke to other guests in the hotel that had booked the same standard of room last minute and were placed much more favourably. After spending lots of money in this hotel in the past it made me feel very disappointed. We were planning on booking for our wedding anniversary in February but are having second thoughts now. Staff and restaurant were fabulous as always. Just felt that previous rooms had been much better. Sorry hotels.com I know you don’t allocate rooms. I am just very disappointed right now.
