The room wasn’t clean. Left over hair in the shower. Main light didn’t turn on. Beds and night stands clearly haven’t been updated in centuries. But the Location was great.

Das Hotel liegt super zentral und es gibt jede Menge Lokale und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in nächster Nähe. Auch der öffentliche Nahverkehr ist nicht weit weg. Die Einrichtung ist zwar in die Jahre gekommen, aber alles war sauber. Die Angestellten waren sehr hilfreich und freundlich. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und werden definitiv wieder kommen.

The hotel in an old historical building is very centrally located. It offers a nice view of the city or the Lake. In my room, the window was defective and would not close properly. It was therefore very noisy in the room (because the room was next to a large utility plant of the neighboring house and this was running constantly). After the fault could not be fixed and I was not offered another room, I contacted Expedia after 2 nights. Within a short time I was then offered another room by a friendly hotel employee. I got a larger, quiet beautiful room. I still find it sad that this was only after a complaint. The hotel is well attended, you always see guests arriving and departing. The staff seems very busy, sometimes they eat while guests are talking to them. For a short trip certainly a good hotel if you are looking for a central location. Room cleaning is on request and with advance notice.

Die Hotelzimmer muss definitiv renoviert werden. Überall lagen Kabel herum, die Bettwäsche hatte Löcher und der kleine Spiegel im Bad hing viel zu weit oben und ging auch nicht. Es sind Lichtschalter vorhanden, welche gar keine Funktion hatten. Ausstattung vom Zimmer - war ok. Es hatte einen Fernseher, Telefon, Kühlschrank, Klimaanlage und einen Fön. Eine Kaffeemaschine war leider nicht vorhanden. Preis- Leistungen- passt leider gar nicht.

Die Lage und Anbindung an das U-Bahnsystem ist sehr gut. Ausstatung und Zustand der Zimmer sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen (Beleuchtung zu dunkel, Tapeten lösen sich teilweise von den Wänden). Reinigung der Zimmer und Wechsel der Handtücher ist grundsätzlich erst nach 6 Tagen vorgesehen.

Personnel at check-in do not really make you feel welcome - maybe because they need to work too many hours? The bathroom (toilet) was not in a state to be rented out - the toilet kept clogging again and again. An engineer was there to help but how can you get one in the middle of the night when the room phone's cable is cut? You walk down to reception in your nighties, embarrassed about 'the mess' you have created?

I read varying reviews of this hotel, but overall, I thought it was a nice property, and certainly a good value. Yes, the elevators are very small (probably because of the building's age), the lobby is modest, and if some rough edges on wallpaper will ruin your stay, perhaps look elsewhere. But front desk staff were great, the room was spacious and comfortable, water pressure in the shower was good and stayed consistently hot, and WiFi worked well. The location is excellent, in easy walking distance of many attractions. I'd gladly stay here again on my next visit to downtown Chicago.

Everything was great besides it is an older building and older furniture they use. Our ac system did not work in our first room but we were able to get set up to a new room asap. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was easy to get to the subway and was a close walk to pretty much everything.

You need to request for housekeeping, otherwise nobody comes no matter how many nights you stay. There is no security required to enter the hotel, and there is no card needs to be tapped in the elevator to go to any floor. Theoretically any stranger can show up at the door of your room. Although nothing happened during my stay, I felt a bit unsafe.

The area is perfect—great for shopping, dining, sightseeing, etc. However, the hotel is nowhere I'd stay again. It's outdated; they don't provide anything in the room except tea and decaffeinated coffee—which they ran out of. The refrigerator in our room didn't work, and there was no ice/vending machine that I saw. And I'm not sure what their website means regarding luxury bath amenities. There was nothing special, just standard awful soap/shampoo and a lighted mirror that didn't work. It also took forever to get checked in. We got into Chicago around 7:30 a.m., but we'd received a text from The Whitehall stating that if we paid $30/room, we could check in at 11. When we got to the hotel, they told me that paying early was not an option. So, this left us to roam the city until 4 p.m. (although they told us to check in at 1, then 2 ...) Once we got to our rooms (our daughter had a room, too), they were over 80 degrees. Maintenance was called, and it took hours for the rooms to cool down. On their website and lobby signage, they say they offer a $10 food/beverage credit for a nearby venue, but we didn't receive anything. The day before we left, they shut off our key card. The front desk staff is clearly stressed, but this hotel offers nothing short of a good location. Due to a ton of inconvenience, they promised to refund us $30 for each room, but only one was completed. Also, there is a 13th floor, which is where our rooms were—haha—maybe that explains some things.

The room was clean and well appointed. However, we were not aware that there was no room cleaning service. While I am fine making my own bed, the single garbage can in the room was quite full after two days. Also, we wanted to write down some information and there was no pen or paper (always a staple in every hotel I've stayed at). Finally, the toilet always required two to four flushes to work.

Price was reasonable. Rooms don't get cleaned unless one schedules a cleaning for next day. Room dark but bed was comfortable. Location was excellent. Food good in the restaurant.
