“ The Cottage “ has been in our family since 1969. After a few additions and upgrades over the years, The Cottage is one of the prime Ocean Front locations on West Island in Fairhaven, MA. This is the first year it will be up for rent in the beautiful summer weeks at this gorgeous location. Whether you like to Kayak, boat, paddleboard, jog, walk, hike or just relax by reading a book on the back deck or back yard overlooking the ocean with nice breezes on a protected bay, this is the perfect location. Gas grill is for use as well and be sure to bring your corn hole boards. There is a 65” TV in the main living room in which you can either enjoy Central Air or open up the windows and take in the summer breeze. Sunsets are spectacular, always a great photo with the flag flying above.
A ten minute walk to West Island Marina and Off The Hook Bar and Grill, if you choose to get some food and drink, mingle and listen to their live entertainment on weekends. There’s also parking across from the marina at a town boat ramp. Small daily fees and you can park all day and/or launch your boat or jet ski. Kayaks and Paddleboards can be launched right at the Cottage in which you can back your vehicle down the access lane that we maintain.
There is also access to beaches on both sides of the causeway leading over to the Island which is a 5 min walk. There is a Town Beach on the back side of the Island that is overlooking Buzzards Bay, you can bike there or take your vehicle, probably just over a mile. Downtown Fairhaven also has a full Bike/Jog/Walk paved trail from the center of town to the town of Mattapoisett. Acushnet, MA the next town over has Acushnet River Valley Golf Course open to public for those who want to swing the clubs, be sure to make a tee time.
If you really want to venture out to Martha’s Vineyard for the day, the fast ferry goes to and from New Bedford, MA downtown. Usually around 1 hour ferry time and the ferry terminal is about a 15 min drive from West Island. There are quite a few Restaurants/Bars in the Downtown Fairhaven area and plenty in Historic downtown New Bedford as well.
