“my first city break”
this hotel was adequate for our requirements. it was clean, just big enough and the people were friendly. I would certainly go back.
“Excellent for no-frills travelers who want a safe, convenient place to saty”
My husband and I recently stayed in a double at the Quentin for a few days. We are very low-maintenance travelers, simply seeking a clean, safe and affordable place to rest when not wandering the city. Quentin's location is phenomenal. The room furnishings are a tad shabby, but the bed and linens were clean and I felt very comfortable during my stay. It can be noisy in your room as others move about. Our door opened right into the stairwell, so we could hear anyone passing by. Were very pleased to have an ensuite bathroom (European-style shower, but we expected that). Front desk staff was friendly and helpful with our questions. Wifi did not work on my phone in the room, but worked for my husband's, so it may just depend on what you use. I was able to access wifi in the main common room. You will need to put down a 20 euro deposit to use the hair dryer or tv remote. Phones only receive calls, you cannot make any outgoing. These are all little things that remind you how you are saving money off the total fee. Quentin England was just right for our purposes.
“Nightmare Hotel”
I stayed for 4 nights and the Summary is the Hotel location is Excellent as you Can walk to most of Museums and other Sightseeing ..... but the Rooms are very bad specially for singles (Very small couldn't even walk through and had only one Electric Socket and a small window) Single Room also lies below the street level. I did not see the double rooms it may be better.
“Tolerable, but dirty and in need of makeover.”
I assumed that some of the reviews I had read about this hotel where from guests far fussier than I was yet after visiting discovered it is in fact pretty dirty. As others have mentioned, the stairs are quite steep and I was on the top floor (4th), this wasn't too much of a problem as I was travelling alone and didn't have a lot of luggage but there is no lift for anyone with a heavy suitcase. Stairway grubby, with stains and clumps of hair on the landing which remained throughout my 4 day visit. My room was very small and carpet was heavily stained with black marks, as well as a used glass and tissue which had not been removed. Minimal decoration but not surprising for a budget room. Bed was made up daily and my towels where changed but they are pretty much the only postives. Shared bathroom was clean and only once did I have a short wait to use it so this was not a problem at all. Staff member on my arrival was offhand and a little rude, but other staff seemed polite when I was checking out. I strangely got used to this hotel, the location was good and near to tram stops. I was visiting for a concert at Het Concertgebouw and this was easy to find walking. The surrounding streets are mainly other hotels and cafes but the location if pretty good yet I would probably look at other hotels in the area for my next visit.
“Spend a bit more and you'll be glad you did! (Definitely DO NOT stay here!)”
This hotel was a bad idea! The front desk staff was not especially helpful or friendly. The common areas and the room we stayed in were badly in need of maintenance. For example, the laminate flooring in the breakfast area has large gaps in between boards. I can deal with a small room if it's clean, but the maintenance issues made this place feel dirty and uncomfortable. Our room included cracks in the wall, paint that was chipping, suspicious and creepy stains EVERYWHERE on the carpet, and floor moldings that were missing in sections or not attached very well. To make matters far worse, our shower did not drain properly and the bathroom floor was all part of the shower area, so after a few minutes in the shower I would have filthy water up to my ankles and my husband couldn't be in the bathroom because the pool of water reached well into the sink area. So gross! We toughed it out for the two nights we had pre-paid and then stayed one more night about a block away in a much, much nicer place. For an extra $20 per night, I would say it was well worth it. I can't imagine ever staying in this place again. By far, it was the worst hotel we stayed in during our two weeks traveling around Europe.
“Quentin England - Your No-Frills Classic European Inexpensive Hotel”
I stayed at Quentin England from May 29 through June1, 2011. It is an old hotel in an old building on a quite street just north of Vondelpark. There are no lifts. Therefore, with my room number being 412 (that's the fifth floor in European lingo), arriving and leaving with a full suitcase that I had to carry up five flights of stairs was a bit of a challenge. I also had shared bathroom facilities on the fifth floor. There is no air conditioning. But, it was not needed and probably would not be for most of the year. It is a 15-minute walk to the Leidseplein where one can access virtually any needed tram route. The staff told me 5 minutes. But, I have learned to discount European peoples' walking distance estimates; they walk faster than I do. Quentin England provided free internet access and a daily breakfast for seven (7) Euro. The staff was accessible, polite and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
“Perfectly adequate”
Absolutely fine for the cost , no problems at all.
“Very basic, but needs repairs”
Decent for the no-frills traveler. Very small rooms with basic furnishing, bathroom, and everything worked just fine. The rooms are in need of repairs, however, and things are taped together, peeling, coming apart. If you can get past that, you'll be fine. The bathroom is very small, larger/taller people might have difficulty moving around in there. It's about the size of an average linen closet. Otherwise, staff were very friendly, and the location is decent. Did not feel unsafe.
