Summary:

The Mill in Westport, New York is an 11,000 square foot former grain mill that was originally constructed in 1952 as the Champlain Valley Seed Cooperative. In 2021 the building was purchased with the intent of restoring it into an extraordinary new home for innovative cultural experiences. The building houses a curated art exhibition program of world class contemporary art, a speakeasy The Knock, and a cathedral-like performance space.



The Space:

A private entrance through the former loading dock houses three beautifully renovated apartments in what was once the sifting tower. Their clean, minimalist design tastefully highlights details of the building’s historic past, including original exposed beams and epically tall ceilings.



Each unit is fully furnished with luxury amenities to allow guests to experience a unique Adirondack vacation: the comfort of a sophisticated urban dwelling in a rural destination. Each apartment is filled with natural light and designed to feel spacious and calming, embracing the views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains to the east.





Named after our favorite nocturnal raptor which nests inside of trees, caves, and ground burrows, Owl is our coziest apartment.



This spacious one bedroom with 18 foot ceilings features a loft-style open kitchen with counter seating and a relaxing sitting area adjacent. This unit is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple seeking a weekend getaway.

Access & Stairs



Please note that access to the apartment involves stairs. There is an exterior set of stairs to enter the building, followed by a flight of interior stairs to reach the apartment. All living space—including the living area, kitchen, bedroom, and full bathroom—is located on this level, with no additional interior stairs inside the apartment.



This layout is part of the historic character of The Mill and may not be suitable for guests with mobility limitations or those who prefer step-free access.



The Neighborhood:

Westport, NY is a rural, coastal town located on Lake Champlain with a year round population of 1200 residents. Since the late 1800s Westport could be reached by train (now known as Amtrak’s Adirondack Route), allowing urban tourists access to the fresh air and premium mountain spring water that Theodore Roosevelt once had bottled and delivered to the White House. The proprietor of the bottling company, Thomas Lee, also designed the Westport Chair around 1904 to lounge in the outdoors; the adapted design is now commonly known as the Adirondack Chair. Since 2009, Champlain Area Trails has worked with landowners to create over 100 miles of trails in the Champlain Valley that are accessible to all levels of outdoorsmen. Ballard Park at the center of town offers landscaped picnic areas with sweeping views of the lake, public access to a monitored swimming beach during the summer months and an ice skating rink in the winter season. The Depot Theatre, a professional theater located in the historic, functioning 1876 train station, hosts plays and musicals on its main stage during the summer months. The Mill is a four minute walk from the train station, making it accessible to all travelers.



Getting Around:

Getting around from The Mill is a breeze. The Westport train station is a short walk away, offering convenient access to the Amtrak Adirondack line, making it easy to explore the region or arrive from further afield. Free on-site parking is available for guests who prefer to drive. For those flying in, Burlington International Airport (BTV) is about an hour away via a short ferry ride across Lake Champlain or a scenic drive around the Crown Point Bridge, both of which add to the charm of the journey. Albany International Airport (ALB) is approximately a two-hour drive from Westport. With easy access to rail, highways, and nearby airports, your trip gets off to a smooth and stress-free start.
