„The place was clean and tidy, well set up for a large group. Sadly my Dad and I arrived late at night so didn’t get to really experience the property much but I could imagine it being a wonderful escape for a big family or group of friends to enjoy. Walking distance to shops, cafes and the local pub/restaurant as well as the Farewell Spit tour company (which is why we were late arriving). „Everything about this property makes you feel calm and relaxed. A perfect spot for a getaway. The views are amazing, it is warm & cosy & has a lovely indoor/outdoor flow. Then to top it off....a fabulous spa pool to unwind in. The communication from our host Brad was exceptional. We will certainly be recommending Firkin's Retreat to friends & family.“

„This was an awesome place to host 80th celebration- plenty of room for 8 adults and teenagers to be together or escape if they needed to. Great to have use of kayaks and pool table. Parapara as location ' close to Vollingwood, Wharariki beach or back to Takak. “

„Such a wonderful part of Golden Bay, close to everything, especially Collingwood, Pakawau and incredible Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit. Great bach which comfortably accommodated our family. Beautifully located between estuary and beach.“

„ A lovely 2 bedroom cottage with all the amenities needed. The beds are comfortable, as was the sofa for watching TV. I do like a washcloth, but most cottages don’t have them. And some face tissue would have been nice, but overall a lovely stay. Great communication, no problem getting in or finding it. The pub down the road serves great food and a general store very close by. A coffee shop a little further opens at 8 with excellent scones“

„We had a nice time in Takaka and exploring the area. Comfy beds and a good size place for a family holiday. The house and surrounding gardens needed a bit of TLC. It wasn't as clean as we would have hoped. Just needs a bit of a spruce - cobwebs definitely need to be swept away! Probably wouldn't choose to stay here again unfortunately.“
