The front of desk staff had only worked there for 3 days and appeared to be working alone which has obvious safety concerns. She however was incredibly helpful and friendly and was the only positive of our stay. The hotel smelled of sewage. The carpets were stained and dirty. We had filthy cups and saucers. If you left the hotel at any point you have to hand your key in so, at night, you’re waiting on a dimly lit street to be let back in. Whilst the room had a small travel kettle, tea bags and milk, if you want coffee you had to go and buy one from reception for £3.50 (thankfully you’re close to McDonalds and their coffee is much better). It could be a beautiful hotel if time and money were put into it.

Not sure if it was due to Expedia or the host but I got too many emails once I’d made the booking and I was badgered to check-in but the process wasn’t clear and I had to download an app which seemed totally pointless. This said, I gave up with the tech and spoke to someone from Deuce Hotels and he was excellent. He was professional and reassuring and the codes for the door arrived via email as promised. The property itself does not look very welcoming as you go in a back door next to the bins. However, the rooms are spacious and clean and were surprisingly quiet given how central the location is - excellent value for money.
