Arrived at rental at 7:00pm to find not cleaned from previous guests. Phone number provided from property management to call if any needs went straight to voicemail and were not responded to until almost an hour later. We had our dog with us and could not look into any other stay options, plus Stinson has little options available anyway. We live 2 hours away so rather than wait in a dirty house for someone to respond and help solve problem, we disappointedly made the decision to just drive home and sleep in our own, clean bed. Cell service issues in the area made calling again - as well as trying to seek help from vrbo rep who we tried to speak to twice and had to do much repeating on both our parts as his accent was very thick, and then the call would drop- difficult. An hour into our drive when cell service returned we had a response email from property manager. His response was that there was a calendar mix up with cleaners, the first night would be refunded, we could find extra linens in a drawer and change bedding, cleaners would come in morning. Our response was this was unacceptable - used wet towels in bathroom, used products in bathroom, unclean kitchen - unsanitary and not up to covid standards for sure- request full refund. His response was unable to do that. Multiple emails later, owner of property did the right thing and canceled our reservation and made full refund. Problem was resolved but experience and timely process to get it resolved was a bad experience. All of our previous Vrbo experiences have been seamless so this was so disappointing, and we have two vrbo reservations lined up in the coming months and are now worried about having a bad experience as both locations will not allow us to drive home if there is a problem. We also purchased the travel insurance for this recent trip - as well as the upcoming ones - and would like a refund for this trip as it was canceled by the property owner and we never got to have the trip experience. I have tried to call the insurance company yesterday and the wait time would be long so opted for them to return call and no one called back the entire day - not happy about that as well. We have stated at a different vrbo rental in Stinson with wonderful experiences. The owner of this recent one resolved for us, but in future trips we will never choose any properties managed by Colby Gilbert at Stinson Beach Property Management as his handling of this event was poor.
