4/10 – Schlecht

I rarely write reviews but this calls for one. I travel Route 77 in NC quite often between Atlanta and CT visiting family. My go to stop is the wonderful Hampton Inn at Dobson, affiliated with Sherman Winery, about 40 miles north of Statesville. They were fully booked so I turned to Ramada, name brand...but this, at least to me, was far from being on brand.
The property is under renovations. When I arrived I was not sure it was even open. Interior had a strange smell.
On check in I was assigned Room 106. The hallway leading to the room had old carpeting that felt wet, the air was thick, humid and the hallway smelled like a Bombay Street fair. All I could smell was Indian food cooking. The room was like stepping back into the 1950's, old furniture cobbled together, arms on chair broken. Carpeting old and appeared damp. Where there was not carpeting the floor felt slippery, oily. Room was stuffy and smelled stale, dusty, chlorox'd.
I went back to reception and complained. When I asked about the new rooms I had seen in online reviews, I was informed oh yes you are in one of the old rooms. I was then given Room 201 to which I gladly and rapidly moved.
Other than a coat of paint (sloppily done) it was the same old broken furniture, 1950's vibe and poorly positioned windows. Shower had not been cleaned properly and room still had some Indian cooking carry over from the floor below.
The bed was comfortable and I did sleep well. However, my advice, look elsewhere.
