Have been waiting on a refund from host for over a week. He has been contacted by VRBO & Expedia multiple times without response. I was not going to leave a negative review but the host has left me no choice.
We arrived at the property on check in day to a *very strong* odor of moth balls. At first we thought it had just been closed up for a long time & that it would decrease with air circulation. Within 15 minutes, my headache was so bad that I ended up vomiting. Soon after, my son said he was feeling very bad. I attempted to call the host x3 with no answer.I checked to see online if the moth ball smell could be the culprit. I found that mothballs should never be left out in the open (not in a container) & can cause severe illness. I went searching to see if I could find them and sure enough there was a large, open, unsecured bag in the kitchen closet. I thought maybe the internet information was being dramatic so I called poison control line as suggested. We were told to leave immediately. I attempted to call the host again with no success.
We left the property and went to a hotel. I called VRBO who attempted to call the host multiple times with no success. I then sent a text to the host asking for a call back ASAP since both myself & VRBO had been attempting to reach. He later called back & was pretty rude saying "I doubt its that dramatic" among other things but did say he would refund. That is the last I heard from him. He is ignoring contact from me & the company.
