House was nice - beach not so much

The abundance of sandbags took up most of the beach. Combined with the super moon, king tide and Helene, our time on the beach was minimal. Some days we could not go out at all. While this is not any fault of the home owner, it still makes for a disappointing visit. AC could be improved by adding another unit. Also, the mattress in the beach facing bedroom in the bottom floor was horrible. This is why I feel the rent was overpriced (plus lack of beach). I will not stay again.

We really loved the location and all the shark teeth. It was difficult to keep the floor clean because there wasn’t a hose/shower to wash sand after the beach.

The oceanfront location was very nice but we found several pieces of broken deck furniture when arrived and they were unusable. We also found that the air conditioning was not working correctly on the higher floors and the screen doors were off the track…we did appreciate the quick response to these issues. The biggest issue was the absence of an outdoor water faucet or rinse off area, but that obviously could not be corrected during our stay.

It is a nice place overall - comfortable and nice decor. But we could not believe that for a "dog-friendly" place in particular, there was not outdoor water. We could not even rinse our feet after a walk on the beach. This significantly detracted from our enjoyment of our vacation week.

Clean, very nice and well maintained interior. Lots of stairs, whew! Comfortable beds. Directly access to beach. No outdoor shower or water to rinse sand off. Right next to public beach access so a lot of people walking by. Overall a nice place.

Great property!! Love the location!!! Just a few things I think could make it even better….refrigerator location in the kitchen isn’t ideal. When you have multiple adults that are cooking it gets kinda crammed. We moved the trash can out where it was more easily accessible. Bedroom upstairs really needs curtains on the windows facing the beach. It’s bright and if you happen to just be going from the shower to the bedroom to get dressed at night - everyone is seeing you. Also if you wanted to sleep in - there is no way you could - with the sun rising on that side it’s very bright at 6am. We read previous reviews and seen that complaint as well. We are morning people - so my husband and i took that bedroom. It says 5 beds. The couch is a bed. Not sure if it actually said that in the review or not, but it did work out ok for us. Would be nice to have a grill. We rented one and that was fine but that’s costly. There is also a storage area below and has some beach chairs and toys that we didn’t know about! Would’ve helped out on day 1 with the extra chairs but I went exploring and found them. It is a very nice property and the location is just perfect. Right on the beach and such a great location. Check in process was super easy and very convenient. Check out was very easy too. Would recommend and would definitely rent from again in the future!!!!

Property at first glance seemed to be cleaned.I always reclean a property when I arrive to make sure it is sanitized, especially this year! I was disappointed in the cleanliness of both bathrooms and all countertops.Stairways ,Beds / curtains / in master and guest bedrooms had a lot of animal hair attached to them!Sand needed to be cleaned off both lower porch and balcony . Location of property was quiet and beautiful but the neighborhood had a condo building that blocked the view down the beach.So not a full ocean front view!

Beautiful ocean front duplex

This unit is nice, clean and updated. The beach in front was very beautiful and easily accessible. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 was for 2 main reasons. #1 the room upstairs needs blinds or curtains. My wife and I could not change clothes in the upstairs bedroom without feeling like we were in a fishbowl. I'm reiterating this hoping they take notice as this is a privacy concern that others have noted before in other reviews that were ignored, especially being right on the public access and considering what a cheap and easy fix this is. Not only that you have no choice you are forced to wake up at 6:30am when the sunlight starts pouring through the windows. This was just as annoying as trying to change without the neighbors on the porch next door seeing you. The second inconvenience were the TVs. They were smart TVs not on cable and none of the streaming services were logged into, meaning if you didn't have your own Netflix or Hulu or other streaming accounts to login to then you probably weren't watching any TV. There were no instructions anywhere and I'm very tech savvy and still had issues. We don't come to the beach to watch TV, but still expect a local cable subscription or login info to a streaming site, etc, especially being so far away from entertainment. Other than we had no major gripes. It's a nice secluded spot at the far north end of North Topsail Beach with beautiful views if you want to get away from everything and enjoy the salt and sand. I would stay here again!

Lovely Beach House BUT...

My family of four plus dog enjoyed our week at this house because we love being on the ocean. That said, please be aware that there are some issues that need addressing. In all fairness, this is a new listing with the property managing company and we did not make them aware of these issues until the end of our week because we did not want anyone servicing the house while we were there. Sandy from Seashore Realty Group was accessible and very responsive. If you want a bright lovely house directly on the ocean, by all means rent this house. I do suggest going through this checklist, however, to make sure that these issues were addressed: CLEANING: House was tidy but not clean (crumbs in toaster, dog hair - not from our dog - all over the place, human hair in drawers and bathroom floors, food smeared and caked on and in garbage pail, vent on bedroom air conditioner upstairs caked in dirt). Forget enhanced COVID cleaning measures (which were not offered), I am referring to basic housekeeping. BEDS: very comfortable but mattress protectors were COVERED in hair - not removable or I would have washed it. They need to be replaced. Ditto for dirty bedskirts (particularly in master bedroom on top floor). SHOWERS: Master bedroom shower does not get hot. All other sinks/showers do not have this problem. LOCATION: charming neighborhood but quite far from shopping area for supplies. Not a deal breaker though. MISC: Air conditioner in master bedroom is LOUD, old, dirty, and duct taped to window. The other reviewer mentioned this. It was not replaced. Some windows have curtains but not all. The neighbors had their lights on all night and my son had to block his window with a towel. Also mentioned by the last reviewer. The screen door on the living room level is broken and sticks when trying to open/close. We rented sheets and towels. The sheets were fine but the towels were threadbare, old, and thin. Request a better linen company if you go that route. Please note that if you grill many meals like we do, you will need to rent a grill for about $80 per week. Every other beach house we have rented has had it’s own grill. Since this a dog friendly property, not having an outdoor shower was a real problem. Our dog loves running on the beach and this beach is very dog friendly. We were unable to properly de-sand our dog (and ourselves) with the provided garden hose, especially since the hose was also in the sand.

Location!

Great location right on the beach. Property was very clean and good kitchen items included so we could cook the majority of our meals. I do wish there were some curtains in the 3rd floor master as the property is right next to a public access to the beach to add a little privacy

Stylish, modern, and clean house directly on the quiet, sandy beach

Really enjoyed our week here over Labor Day and would return. Beach access 10 paces from front porch steps. Crack a window and listen to the waves 24/7 from every room in the house. Beach was sandy with good waves & wading, and soft, long shoreline for walks. No crowds even on LDW. House was sparkling clean and modern, with smart TVs in every room, fast wi-fi, and uncommon extras (Keurig, air fryer, blender, a few helpful leftover kitchen/cleaning/bathroom provisions). 2nd floor deck was perfect to sit out and watch the beach & feel the breeze. Other side of duplex was unoccupied due to renovation, but privacy seemed sufficient. Listing cons in hopes of improvement and in case they are a sticking point for anyone but would absolutely recommend this rental. Pros: Couldn't possibly be closer to a perfect, picturesque beach. Great decks on all 3 floors. Dog friendly yet still very clean and well-appointed interior. Quiet, fairly secluded neighborhood. Check out Topsail Steamer in Surf City. Delicious, fun meal! Cons: Curtains pictured on master bedroom sliding glass doors were not there upon Saturday arrival, letting in sunlight and allowing the neighborhood direct line of sight into the bedroom. Texted rental office with pictures and received no response. Called on Tuesday after the holiday weekend and talked with a very understanding woman who promised to send over curtains ASAP. Never received them or heard back by checkout on Friday. Had to hang up sheets for privacy instead, which dampened the vibe. The other 3 windows in the master bedroom had no curtains or rods, so by 7am the room is VERY bright. No sleeping in or daytime napping for sure. Would strongly recommend full curtains in the master and non-sheer curtains in the other bedrooms, otherwise everyone bring a sleep mask. Window AC unit (not pictured) was added to the master and duct taped in place. Did a good job cooling the top floor but looked rough and had a loud rattle. A quieter unit professionally installed would go a long way. Neighborhood beach access is in your backyard, so people were coming and going on the path next to the house all day. Not a big issue. The VRBO map location near West Onslow Beach is incorrect. The actual location is very far north, past the Tiki Mart. So 20min drive to Surf City, 30 to Topsail Beach, and far from most area dining and attractions. Not an issue if mostly staying at the house, but disappointed to receive incorrect information in the listing.
