"We had a wonderful stayl! The location was ideal, nestled close to local restaurants and grocery stores, with an unbelievable view that took our breath away. The villa's layout with three separate bedroom suites around a shared common area provided both privacy and a place for gathering. Each room having its own bathroom added a touch of luxury and convenience. The property shuttle was a great perk, making it easy to move around without driving. We also fell in love with Saltina the cat, who became our regular visitor, stopping by for food and a little siesta before heading out again. Our host, Daniela, was incredibly responsive and personable, enhancing our experience further. She even arranged a memorable 4-hour boating trip that included snorkeling and exploring, which we loved so much that we booked a second trip for more snorkeling and fishing. A truly memorable vacation, thanks to the attentive staff and the exquisite setting!"

The view is absolutely spectacular! The dipping pool and patio was beautiful. The space is so great. Only flaw is the mattress desperately need to be changed. Don't use the grocery service, its super convenient but very expensive. Stop at walmart in Liberia and pick up your own groceries. Highly recommend!

We very much enjoyed our stay during Easter Week. We traveled with three adults and 2 small children and loved how everyone had their own room/space. The views are phenomenal and the pool was lovely. We did leave food out for the kitties who visited in the morning. They did not hang around the villa patio after eating. There are a couple of good restaurants outside of the property and you’re a short drive to coco beach if you want more restaurant options. Everything worked well. We got lucky that we had one of the three parking spots by the villa every night. We loved our experience. Thank you so much for making our time so memorable. We’d love to come back and stay here again some day.

Nice Villa
I have noticed the owner gets extremely defensive when you leave negative feedback. But I should be allowed to give my honest feedback. So here goes......overall the unit is very nice. Views are amazing. The good: Views and separate bedrooms with own bathrooms. The bad: we found the shuttle system to be troublesome. Parking our rental car was also not fun. There were always cars parked by our unit so we had to leave car parked far away. This unit is at the top of a large hill. We had to walk up and down several times as shuttle wasn't convenient. Do NOT eat the food at the resort, it is quite terrible. We had two issues that Sebastian failed to do anything about, went to make food on the grill and there was no propane. Bedroom 3 had a sink that we think the faucet was clogged. Water barely came out. Sebastian said he would look into it, but never came. A lot of people have talked about the cats that visit several times a day. I was really hoping they would not come by as I am extremely allergic to cats. When they would come on the patio, I would have to retreat inside. Needless to say, the Cats got more patio time than I did. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Just know with the views comes some additional issues you have to deal with.

Great Stay with Family
This home is part of a resort community, which we were unaware of when we booked it. We actually intended to stay away from a resort so we wouldn't be dependent on the resorts food. We were thrilled that this home had a full kitchen and refrigerator so we could go to the local grocery store and cook our own food. The market is a little less than a mile from the gates, easily walkable. Unfortunately, the refrigerator was not working and most of the food we purchased spoiled 😕. After speaking with the Concierge, we were advised that the refrigerator couldn't be repaired. Too bad, so sad. This was a little disappointing because we made the mistake of not renting a car. You can totally drive in Playa Hermosa if you can drive in the states. Rent a car. It's $60 USD to get to Coco Beach and back which is 15 min away. There's only 1 decent restaurant within walking distance from the resort. The food at the resort was about $70 USD on average each meal for a family of 4. The food is banquet style and is fine. Not great. We were here for a week. The villa itself was beautiful. Each kiddo had there own room and bathroom. The view is absolutely incredible!! The pictures don't do it justice. The pool was perfect for my kiddos, 9 and 12. We loved it too, nice little dip to cool off. There are kitty cats that frequent the property and you get to feed them breakfast and dinner. Which was provided, but we ran out so we purchased more. Overall was a great stay. 👍

Spring Break Vacation
We absolutely loved our stay at Villa 86. Pictures don’t do the views justice. We loved sitting out and enjoying the plunge pool and just soaking in the incredible views. The condo was very well stocked and the beds were very comfortable. Sebastian was so personable and responsive to any questions we had during our stay. Mike and Sebastian were extremely helpful leading up to our stay with suggestions for excursions, places to eat, etc. They really went the extra mile to make sure our stay was wonderful.

Pros: luxury, cool AC in every room, spacious for a family, clean, those views! playa Hermosa beach is safe, not busy, and close by. The complex has two pools that you can access included in your stay (plus there is a private dipping pool like in the pictures!) plus various activities like yoga and bingo (that we didn’t try). It also has a convenient shuttle to get to the beach, though you can walk if steep hills aren’t a problem. There is security around and I noted CCTV cameras throughout the Villas so it felt safe. Kitchen adequately stocked for cooking, managers are responsive and helpful. The little cats that visited were sweet. Cons: the roads within the gated community are very narrow and the near parking is challenging to get in and out of. We regretted wasting one of our dinners at the attached restaurant (do not get the all inclusive meal package) when there are wonderful restaurant choices right on the beach. Other than the beach itself, there is little to do in Playa Hermosa but if you have a car it’s easy to get to places and there are shuttle and boat tours a plenty. The condo had ants but they went away when we kept everything off the counter (everything was stored in the fridge and freezer including food waste which we disposed of daily- it was conveniently picked up from the curb side each morning). Bed in master bedroom is dipping in the middle so not the most comfortable, and there is a not pleasant smell from the ensuite so we kept the door closed and fan on. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we felt spoiled there.

Breathtaking view
We spent a week here with another couple and loved the condominium and especially the terrace with the private pool, swings and spectacular view of the ocean and sunsets. At first, it seemed far up and away from the beach, but the shuttle worked well and we did end up regularly walking the 15 minutes down to the beach and taking the shuttle home (Roy the shuttle driver was particularly friendly). The accommodation was spacious and comfortable for four adults. Our host provided beer and a bag of coffee upon our arrival. The owner’s team was highly responsive in getting back to our requests and questions.

The view is worth it!
The views in the listing photos are what drew us to Villa Sol and they did not disappoint. We could never grow tired of taking in those views and sunsets from Villa 86. The cold plunge pool was so refreshing in the hot afternoons, and we loved relaxing and reading in the swings over the pool (though one swing was out of commission for a few days). We enjoyed visiting with all of the sweet cats who came by to be fed. The villa itself is spacious and there were only two of us but we could have fit 4 more people comfortably. The resort shuttle ran frequently, though we were a little confused by how it worked at first. There are several decent restaurants within walking distance of the resort, and a surprisingly well stocked convenience store too. There are plenty of nice beaches within a short drive from the resort, and the town of Coco is only about 15-20 minutes by car where there are many more restaurants and shopping options. We can't speak to the hotel restaurants which we didn't go to due to poor reviews, and we didn't feel the need to hang out at the resort pools since we had our own private one! The front desk staff at the resort weren't very friendly, but Sebastian was very personable and responsive to questions and some maintenance issues we had. The oven didn't work, which wasn't a big deal, but the master bathroom smelled strongly of sewage. Sebastian did try to resolve it twice, but we decided to just stop using that bathroom for the rest of our stay so as not to have more maintenance interruptions. Some other negatives we experienced were that we arrived late at night and were told that wouldn't be an issue. Security did let us in the resort but gave us poor directions to the villa itself. We ended up driving around on those steep hills for a while in the dark and then getting out and walking to look for it (and called the number we were given with no response), which was a little frustrating after a long day of travel. So we'd recommend asking for a resort map if no one can take you up to the villa. As others have said, parking can be tight and there is a very small parking lot not in pictures directly to the right of the patio. People getting in and out of their cars can see you if you're on the patio or in the pool but it wasn't a big issue, just might be nice to add a privacy fence (Sebastian mentioned they are adding one). All in all, it's a beautiful spot and we would visit again!

Wonderful haven in paradise
Beautiful views and wonderful amenities! Villa 86 at Villa Sol was perfect for our family vacation! The sunsets were outstanding and so visible from the inside and outdoor space. The condo was spacious and perfect for our group of 6- 4 adults and 2 small kids. Seb and his team were so wonderful and helped with any and all inquires. My family recently stayed at this villa and it was perfect for us. The views from the pool are spectacular! We used the resort shuttle / walked to get to the restaurants for the evening. We arranged to have a private chef one night with the property management company. They also had groceries waiting for us and took care or our dinner reservations. It was a great mix of resort amenities, with the space of a private house. Everything was exactly as advertised and the whole process was very smooth. Loved it!

We spent a week here and would stay here again! The view was fantastic, and the villa was roomy and comfortable. I’m fairly certain this villa has the best view of any within this resort. We scheduled a sunset sail and private 1/2 day fishing charter through Dani, and both were excellent! Pros: The view, the view, the view! The villa was clean, roomy and comfy. We loved the pool. Easy shuttle service to get around the resort. And you didn’t need to be at a shuttle station to catch the shuttle. Responsive host and concierge. Cats. I liked that the resort wasn’t super touristy. Easy to walk to restaurants, bars, and activities. Resort pool was also nice, with sunny and shady spots, food and drinks available, a dj, hot tub, ping pong and fusball. Weather was perfect the entire week! Cons: Parking next to the villa is limited but we had a small car and it wasn’t an issue. Hills were tough, but you get used to them after a couple of days. Never got used to walking the hills. Resort shuttle stops at 10pm which was fine for us but if you’re staying out at a beach bar later than that, it’s a long arduous hike up the hills to the villa. There were some appliances that weren’t working but Sebastian was responsive and we made do, so it wasn’t a problem. Overall: We had a fantastic vacation, and most of our satisfaction was due to staying at this villa. Thank you to Michael, Dani, and Sebastian for providing such a great rental experience!

Just... perfect
This was the most wonderful place to finish our Costa Rica adventure. The location was beautiful, clean, just as advertised. Sitting in the pool and looking out at the beach was a daily must. The neighborhood was quiet, and having a standalone Villa (rather than a condo with shared walls) was very private and comfortable. Working the Sebastian, the concierge, was smooth and effortless and he was extremely responsive. Couldn't be more happy with our experience.

Wonderful solo vacation
Traveled by myself for the first time, and it was also my first time visiting Costa Rica. Even though this villa had more space than I needed, I booked it due to the reviews and the amenities. It was a perfect home base for my six day trip. I loved having a kitchen where I could cook my own breakfast in the morning, and I loved the sunset views and sitting in the plunge pool in the afternoons. It was fairly easy to catch the shuttle when I wanted to go down to the beach - I usually started walking and then ran into the transport on my way. A couple of items to note: There is no phone in the villa, and communication with the Villas Sol front desk/reception was hit or miss at best. That meant there were a couple of times private drivers were waiting for me at reception, or outside the gates, and I was in the wrong location to meet them. Download whatsapp if you don't already have it. It's the best way to communicate with everyone in Costa Rica. I would also NOT pay for the all-inclusive rate at Villas Sol. I ate one meal there and it was terrible. You're much better off eating at one of the four restaurants on Playa Hermosa (I enjoyed both Roberto's and AquaSport), or walking down the street to Ginger. (Ate there three times.) As for the villa, it was exactly as described. The concierge was very nice and helpful, pre-stocking the fridge with groceries and booking an in-room massage for me. The villa is less than 30 minutes from the airport and about 2 hours from Rincon de la Vieja, which made it a reasonable home base for day trips and tours.

Beyond expectation!
Just, WOW! We loved everything about this place- the hole community was beautiful and the transportation around the property was unexpected and very appreciated. The pool at the villa was bigger than the pictures show and the view is just breathtaking. No picture can do that view justice. It’s the best view in the whole bay. The amenities were outstanding. The 2 pools were fun and entertaining- amazing food and drinks available at both. There is a market in the gated facility right at the entrance to the beach which had everything you might have forgotten while at the grocery store (which is less than a mile outside the gate). I am just blown away, in our opinion, this is the best place to stay in the Guanacaste region. Centrally located for all the tours, hot springs, etc. we hope to be back one day and if you’re worried about the “rainy season” like I was, don’t be! It’s lush and beautiful and warm/hot and the rain passes quickly and the sun always comes back out. Thank you, Villa 86, you helped us fall in love with Costa Rica!

The local restaurants were excellent and most located directly on the beach . The massages on the beach, the waterfalls, ATV ride and hike through the rainforest made this an awesome trip!

Incredible views and great location
Our family stayed for 4 nights and we loved waking up to the amazing views of the ocean. This villa is towards the top of the hill and we were always able to find parking nearby. The shuttle stop is a short walk and can take you to the beach, the pool or to the reception area. We drove over to Coco beach a few times (about 15 minutes). We all took a catamaran cruise out of Coco through Bill Beard’s tours and we highly recommend it! If you take the shuttle to the beach, hammocks are waiting for you, and there a few good restaurants right on the beach. The condo was very clean and the small pool on our patio was constantly used by our teens. We would love to return to Playa Hermosa and stay in this unit again!

Family getaway
Our stay was everything we could have wanted an more.. The Villa was exactly as promised and even better than the pictures.. the views were amazing and the sunsets!!! The propert owner was so helpful when we had questions before our stay and a Sebastan the property manager helped us plan amazing experience while we were there and stocked the villa with snacks prior to arriving with requested snacks so we could get right in ti enjoying our stay!! The drive up the hill to the villa was a little scary but after a few trips it was was fine… we will differently be back.. enjoyed the restaurants on the beach as well, Roberto’s was our families favorite..

Little piece of PARADISE
When we ran across this listing, it felt too good to be true. The view of the mountains and the ocean looked like something out of a travel brochure. The reality superseded our expectations. The property had PLENTY of space for our family of 6. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning units and fans kept the space comfortable, the complementary toiletries and kitchen supplies were a sweet surprise. But the view from the patio and living space was this highlight...simply something I never wanted to leave. The sunsets from the porch swing (such a perfect touch) were like nothing we've ever seen. We will never forget our trip and hopefully will have an opportunity to return, even to this property. Bravo and thank you!

Relaxing in paradise
This villa was beautiful located and well furnished. It was sparkling clean, the beds and linens were soft and inviting. We stayed for a week and were so sad to leave. Our favorite places were the private pool at sunset and the long terrace for coffee drinking in the morning. The pool was cleaned three times while we were there! We took a sunset sail; the crew was wonderful and even steered us out of their way to watch a whale. The resort shuttle service was a good option for getting around. Every single person we met was kind and helpful and knowledgeable. Close to food stores and restaurants. Would love to book this place again.

What a Place. What a View.
The place we originally rented had construction (plus it was in surfer-party-town Tamarindo, which we learned is not the best for families...please note, Northern Coast is better, quieter, still with plenty to do, and closer to the airport). The property management company was nice enough to let us out of our contract because of the construction, but we had to suddenly find another place to stay. We found this villa also on VRBO, and VRBO called the owner, Mike Austin, who got his team in gear right away to clean the place while we drove up the Coast. They couldn't have been better about that, and everything else. So you're dealing with a very good owner and property management team that can move on a dime. Then we arrived at the property, and WOW. Pictures just don't do it justice. The only thing close to this view and these sunsets was Santorini, and you have to travel a lot to get to Greece; this villa and these views are in our own time zone! I can't imagine we could have stayed in a better place with a better view. Three bedrooms, so our daughters had their own rooms. Sebis on the team set us up with a great fishing, snorkeling, sunset boat ride. The restaurants nearby (Ginger, Roberto's, La Casita del Marisco) were really good. As another reviewer says, press "Book" and then read the rest...if this place is available, you want it. The villa is part of a development called Villas Sol, which runs up a mountainside. They have a shuttle that can take you down to the beach, as there's no parking at the beach. But honestly, most of the time, we had no need for the beach or anything else...just sitting there looking at this fantastic view, dipping into the pool and watching the sunsets...that was all any of us (including our usually-impatient teenagers) needed. If there are any forewarnings for fellow travelers: There is a family of cats that hung out with us, and there was food that the crew left for us to feed them with. If you like (or don't mind) cats, no biggie; but if this is deal-breaker, I'm sorry you'll miss this place. Book now.

Allowing for building codes not quite up to California standards, I can live with the fact that there was a 2 inch gap at the top of the floor to ceiling window in the Master Bedroom, but if that gap had been filled, we could have turned off the air conditioner more often - saving on noise & cost of cooling (which I suspect accounts for at least part of the price.) What I found hard to deal with is the fact that the toilets aren’t equipped to handle normal human semi-solid waste. That plunger gave me an un requested upper body workout almost dailey. Parking can be trickey, as the lot is small and turning is a challenge. The view is spectacular, and both the owner and property manager were very helpful and easy to deal with.

Great villa with amazing view
We ended our Costa Rica trip with a 5 night stay at this villa. The property had many amenities and transportation provided by the resort for getting around the property. The shuttle takes you between the beach, restaurant, pool, or home. It was very convenient and unexpected. Our kids enjoyed everything about it and the home was very clean.

Beautiful views and great location!
The views from this villa were absolutely stunning!! Loved getting up in the morning and swinging in the hammock chairs with my coffee, chilling in the private pool and watching sunsets overlooking the ocean! We also saw and heard howler monkeys from the villa! Playa Hermosa was laid back, beautiful, had a great swimming beach and lots of great restaurant options for all the fresh seafood. Will definitely be back!!

SHORT VERSION: Press CONFIRM! DO NOT HESITATE! YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME AND WANT TO TELL OTHERS! LONG VERSION: From start -to-finish, this experience was AMAZEBALLS. I had a rare and spontaneous opportunity to spend my birthday in Costa Rica with my Anam Cara (Gaelic for 'soul friend'.) Could've used Marriott points for a 5-star resort experience, but the allure of something quiet, beautiful, and non-commercial won-out, and I am SO glad I listened to that instinct. Mike (owner), and Sebastian and Dani (property managers), reached-out via WhatsApp a day before our arrival to introduce themselves and to say "think of me as your concierge, we're here to help make your trip easier." They struck the perfect balance between exemplary customer service and unobtrusively making us feel like the place was our own, private retreat. The comfort, space, and VIEWS were like nothing I've experienced, and I am (as my partner would say) a 'hotel SNOB.' We spent 4/5 days thinking we should go somewhere, or DO SOMETHING (after all, it is Guancaste, Costa Rica. The list of things to do and see to enrich your experience is infinite... and Sebastian and Dani are perfectly willing and able to make your desires happen in a 5-star way); but we didn't want to leave. We ventured-out on my birthday to Coco Beach... it was lovely, but I wish we'd just spent those hours in the quiet paradise we were in. I've been to Costa Rica before, and done the touristy, 'gringo'-thing. At this place, there's no need. We spent our days basking in the sun, the view, and the sound of the jungle. We were visited daily by Howler Monkeys, impossibly-colored birds; and at night by friendly raccoons that entertained us with their play until we shooed them away. As a bonus, Dani and Sebastian stopped-by to wish me 'Happy Birthday,' and give me a gorgeous pair of earrings that Dani made herself (See her schizzle on instagram: verdemar_crc ... hope that's ok that I put that there.) Such a lovely surprise. We were sad to leave. We're already planning our return. And I cannot recommend this place, and the people who make it so special, enough. Thank you Mike, Sebastian, and Dani, for such a memorable experience.

Being physically fit should be a factor
Amazing view!! Great Location! Near the top of a VERY steep hill. Be prepared to walk as the shuttle for the hill doesn’t run very late. I think it stopped around 6pm. Parking is a challenge, we put heavy planters in a parking spot to save it but people just moved them. It was a tough call, do we use the car and risk our spot or do we walk the hill. I LOVED the walk, whereas another person with us wasn’t physically able to walk it. The place is a bit outdated and the house pool is extremely small but the view trumped it all. The association pool is nice with shady spots and a swim up Bar.

Perfect Introverted Getaway...
We've lived in Costa Rica for several years inland, but we love to get away to the beach every once in a while. With everything going on, this was the perfect property to hide away in. The pool being right there was awesome and the view couldn't be beat. We barely left the villa and couldn't be happier with our stay. We plan on coming again-hopefully next time the world will be saner and we can check out the rest of the facilities.
