We finally stayed at the Carlton, and really glad we did. There’s significant construction going on, but it’s always exciting when a hotel makes the decision to improve. It’s also been quite sometimes since I’ve been downtown in Atascadero, and it was exciting to see all of the local restaurants and shops during the holiday season.
The first thing I noticed about the Carlton was how friendly all the staff were. Regardless of who was at the front desk, they were always greeting us with a smile and welcoming us in. Even though the rooms in this historic building have certainly been here for a while, they are delightful.
The space is open, well appointed, and clean. The bathroom was huge and included a separate tower and soaking tub, with a private room for the toilet.
The bed was comfortable, and used natural fiber, sheets, an absolute blessing when you’re traveling. If there’s one thing I can’t stand. It’s microfiber sheets that set off a lightning storm every time you get in. The Carlton remains a classy hotel, while still being approachable. I remarked to my wife that the pillow was likely the best I’ve slept on in any hotel, and that’s really saying something.
There was significant renovation going on, and they don’t have a restaurant at this time, but it’s all on its way. The Carlton was a great value and my wife remarked how much she enjoyed staying here. Our dog enjoyed it equally and was happy to have a treat offered at the front desk. We will definitely be back.
