The area is noted for its excellent walking and cycling facilities, most notably several marked looped trails and the Great Western Greenway, a purpose built 43 km traffic-free cycling and walking facility where you can take in some of the most idyllic scenery in the West of Ireland. The area is also home to a variety of interesting flora and fauna and the seashore is fringed by Mediterranean heath, a plant which, in Ireland, is restricted to County Mayo. Angling enthusiasts can enjoy shore fishing or sea angling while Mulranny also boasts a beautiful Blue Flag beach and a nine hole golf links.
