It's April at a ski lodge. Minimum staff, but friendly and only a couple guests in this giant lodge. Beautiful scenery in a vacant lodge.

This property was so run down it wasn’t even worth complaining about. I think the few people running the place know exactly what’s going on. Damp, outdated rooms, ancient exercise equipment and cold pool, pull out bed was a total joke, not sufficient linens/pillows, the restaurant was empty and cold and had very little to offer, the parking lot want plowed even though the snow kept coming down. It’s really unfortunate because there is so much potential and an obvious need for a hotel close to monarch mountain but……at least it wasn’t expensive.

Not terrible for the price, but it’s obvious this property needs a complete remodel. Sticky substance on the television receiver in the room and hand/face prints all over the glass doors leading to the balcony. Pool towels were no where to be found until some other guest stocked some. Maybe this place is going to go out of business soon? Seemed like no one has paid attention to the property in years.

We showed up to the property and no one was on site. The lobby was filthy and upset my wife in a major way. We asked to cancel our reservation leaving a message for the manager, Kelly Rich. We did not stay there and opted to change our plans. We should not be charged for the fiasco

Chris, as mentioned during our conversation, you and your wife arrived at 11a. Our check in is at 3p. Our policy states we cannot accommodate early check ins on the weekend. You stayed for 2 days. requested a late check out and THEN asked for a refund AFTER your departure.

Needs major renovation
My credit card was billed for more than the agreed amount. A 10% fee was charged to my credit card when reserved, but not credited on check out. The rooms have cinder block walls, very old beds with no mattress protector, and an old blood stain on the blanket. The odor is very musty and dirty throughout the hotel. We won’t be back.

Wonderful old school vibes!
Our stay at the MML was absolutely awesome, wonderful staff, fun grounds, breath taking views and cool 70s vibe. Clean and charming, can't recommend enough!!! Seriously, Cory and the rest of the staff were absolute gems!

Meh... lacking...
The ice machines didn't really work. The microwave in my room didn't work that well as the plate wouldn't rotate. The gal at the front desk wasn't that friendly. The kitchen staff was very helpful though.

I've been going to Monarch Lodge with my family for years now and this was the worst I've ever seen it. Half the lights in the place were burnt out, no towels available at the pool or front desk, one hot tub broken and the other at 94 degrees. Their were only 2 people working the entire lodge and that's including the kitchen. I don't expect even a three star place for what you pay but this was sad and depressing. Will probably go a different route the next time we ski Monarch.

This was a simple place but at the same time so accomadating. The beds were comfortable. The linens were fresh The place was so tidy. We loved that it had a restaurant onsite.

Colors
We have stayed here several times. This is an older hotel and layout accordingly. Whoever owns it is not investing in any updates and is deferring some of the Maintenace. That being said, the location is great for skiing or seeing the colors and it is close to Salida. Staff is outstanding and the bed is very good, better than many high-end hotels we have stayed in.

“Dark vibe” “you don’t want to go in there”
Worst hotel I’ve ever experienced! My Son had a bike race a few hours from home so I tried to save some money and booked Monarch Mt Lodge. I came down with Covid and called a couple days before my reservation to cancel. They would not refund my money, so my wife kindly took my place. When they walked into the weird tiny lobby, they met a couple that had been waiting 50 min. without seeing a single employee. After another 20 min. They finally got their key. When they got to the room, they were surprised to be stopped by the maid who said, and I quote “you don’t want to go in their” total nightmare. By now, my kid was late for his race so he tried to change in the lobby bathroom. Granted, there was a cone blocking an open door, but when my son stepped in he saw what was feces water overflowing out of both toilets. Yuck! Naturally, they returned the key and ran for the door. Wife said it had a “dark vibe”. When I called to express our dissatisfaction, I was hung up on. Stay away!!!

Hi Justin Roberson - You arrived at 1:15p our check in time is at 3p despite busily preparing rooms for many guests that would gracious arrive at check in, we tried to accommodate your 2 hour early arrival. You were rude and obnoxious. The only employee you spoke to was a front desk agent and you were cursing. You have definitely spun your story. -Kelly

Somewhat disappointed with this hotel! Older property which really could do with a bit of an update! The biggest problem was we left a couple of jackets at the hotel and when we rang to check on this we were told they had no note of anything being left in our room! Extremely disappointed that no one pursued this matter further…someone from the hotel very obviously has 2 new coats at our expense!

Hi George - Yes, we are indeed an older hotel. We will be celebrating 50 successful years this winter. So sorry to hear you mistakenly left your jackets behind. However, your email said you left 2 jackets, a green sweater and medication behind. When a housekeeper finds an item in a room or anywhere in the hotel, a specific procedure is implementing. The item is placed in a bag and labeled and logged in with both housekeeping and front desk. Then placed in a locked walk-in closet and the guest is called. It is held there for a year before donating to our local women's shelter. My housekeepers have been with me for years, George. This is the first time a guest has left a review accusing them of stealing. What's most questionable is how and why did you leave so much stuff behind. Are you ok?

Know before you go.
The staff was very good. Friendly, welcoming and helpful. Only on check in were we told that the bar was beer and wine only until ski season. Not good for someone who wants a full bar as shown on line. Restaurant was in no way inviting or desirable. We opted not to eat as there was nothing desirable on the menu and the room looked completely uninviting. No AC and to cool the room we had to open the doors to the shared deck and use a fan that was missing a blade and very wobbly and noisy. Fine if you don’t mind people walking by and looking in your room. Smokers on the deck mean you’ll have smoke coming in your room as we did from the cigar smoker next door. We had to close our doors to the smoke which meant a hot night with no AC. The door locks are residential grade and almost antique. The sheets on the bed didn’t fit and when you laid down they popped right off and I slept directly on the mattress. The pool was great and we enjoyed that. The hotel was very clean. As long as you know all these things going in it is probably okay. Had I known some of these things I probably would have looked elsewhere. I think this hotel definitely caters to the budget ski group.

House of horor
Arrived at hotel with a smile. During check i mentioned their poor reviews. The hotel owner ordered me off the property and was told to go stay somewhere else. I was shocked of how the owner belittled me. I noted that this hotel is in extreme disrepair and lobby bathroom was filthy and had extreme odor. This owner apparently has some problems. Stay away from this property.

Megan Bivins - You and your spouse arrived notably in a bad mood around 5p and had asked to change rooms several times within a 2 hour timeframe; staying in each room for 30 min or more. One room too cold... one too hot... We offered to refund your entire stay, but you refused; and instead extended your stay for 2-nights. It's bizarre that you would complain of an unprepared room. A quick getaway for my spouse and I. We were welcomed by great staff and always going the extra mile to make sure our stay was serene. Top floor and quiet with a beautiful view of the mountain. The hotel got a bit slammed by last minute guests like us. We did book that morning. Only 2 workers in the restaurant and they knocked it out of the park. Great food. Next morning of beautiful surroundings and again an excellent meal, we were enjoying the pond, bridges and paths. A so must go. We love the older style of the 100 room lodge.
