"Clean, comfortable hotel close to Expo Milan 2015"
I had searched extensively for a nice, affordable hotel within walking distance to the Expo Milan fairgrounds and found it in Barcelo Milan. It helped that I could make the reservation and pay for the room with the option of canceling and getting a full refund within a few days of the stay (thanks, Expedia!!!). The hotel lobby was playfully designed, with rounded, pop art sorts of forms and in three colors (white, lime green, and red). And while that was not my ideal of beauty, I liked the lilac purple and frosted white color scheme of the hotel room. The beds were exceedingly comfortable, the room large, the shower whimsical, the sink counter spacious. Our room was meticulously clean. The personnel at the front desk and bar were really friendly and personable, but also efficient. The lobby was welcoming, with large overstuffed, lime green chairs arranged so that several smaller groups could occupy the same space with some privacy. The ultramodern elevators added fun to our stay, too. The only disagreeable part of our stay was the Tondo restaurant. The menu looked great, but the dishes were expensive: 23€ for a single, ordinary, breaded pork chop was over the top. Most dishes, for example, the gnocchi or grilled vegetables were dry and inedible, even after we applied the olive oil that was on the table. The bread meant for nibbling on before the meal was also dry, and its presentation in an old paper bag was unappetizing, not chic. My glass of Primitivo wine was good, though
