This place was by far the cleanest and most well stocked place we’ve ever stayed at. Usually places in Hawaii have mold and rust because of the damp weather but this place was super clean and the host was just the nicest host I’ve ever met.

Great Place in Hawi

We loved our stay at Larry and Betty's place in Hawi on the big island of Hawai'i. We happily could have stayed longer. We were there for 3 nights in March 2025. Hawi is a great place to visit. It has a nice, slow pace and lots to do in the area to keep busy for a few days. The nearby snorkeling at Mahukona Harbor was top notch and the best we experienced on the island during our week-long stay.Betty and Larry's vacation rental had absolutely everything we needed, and a lot more! They have thought of everything to ensure a comfortable, stress-free stay. The lanai was a perfect place to visit after a day out and about. The kitchen was well stocked, and the host kindly provided fresh fruit, snacks, coffee, and even beer! The beds were very comfortable, the shower had great water pressure. The apartment was very clean and had all the beach toys / coolers / beach towels to make a Hawaiian vacation perfect. The parking was off-street and ample. There was an outside hose to use to clean off beach and snorkel gear. The neighborhood was quiet and the rental is walking distance to a few shops, eateries, and a pretty fabulous coffee shop. Betty the host is delightful.I highly recommend this rental and if ever in Hawi again, I would stay here without hesitation. Thanks Betty!

Hawi adventure

First I want to thsnk the host for the incredible hospitality. I would rate this host as one of the VERY best in the VRBO community.The unit is comfortable with 2 good size bedrooms, each with a queen bed. The kitchen is very functional for my families needs. If you need a gormet kitchen look elsewhere. The location was perfect for us though might not be for families that need to be in the thick of the islands city activities. For our needs this was a gem. We could walk into Hawi and have a coffee or ice cream and poke in and out of the art galleries.I would recommend this host and unit to a friend planning a trip to the big island.

Well-organized kitchen, walkable neighborhood

We enjoyed the well equipped, well maintained and organized rental. It was very complete and convenient with kitchen items, bedding options, beach gear. Nice outdoor dining table. Surroundings are generally quiet with sounds of the countryside/nature, with isolated/minor road noise. Betty was a great host, greeted us, promptly answered questions and was sincerely interested in her guests enjoying their stay in Hawi. It was a nice get-away from busier, resort-oriented areas of the island. Great location for exploring the more quiet/lush north side of the island.

Nothing short of AWESOME! ! ! ! !

The Skinner’s were delightful hosts that were extremely helpful allowing us to enjoy our family time and maximizing our time on the Big Island! They shared their island secrets and top places to go to easily. Our son enjoyed the snorkeling and beach selections making for an over all great time. They had fresh fruit and snacks available as we arrived and made us feel we were at home. The common comment was, ‘relax, you’re on vacation!’ (Ask what is available as their kitchen is well stocked!) Best hosts ever.

Extraordinary hosts

Betty and Larry may be the best hosts we have ever had (and we've had many good ones). They stocked the place with everything we might ever need and were always available when needed and quite personable and helpful. The place was clean, updated, and roomy. The house is just a short walk from the main street. Hawi is a bit off the beaten path but provides great access by car to many beaches, hikes, and excellent restaurants just 30 minutes away in Kohala and Waimea.

Larry and Betty were such kind and thoughtful hosts. We wanted to get the feel of a small town on the big island, and their accommodations allowed us to do just that. They thought of every detail to ensure we were comfortable and connected to the community. There were books and magazines and brochures available for information. There were boogie boards, beach chairs, towels, coolers, rain jackets, and a fully equipped kitchen just to name a few. We were provided snacks, fresh local fruit and a 6 pack of beer in the fridge… just so very thoughtful. Our hosts made themselves available and were easy to find if we needed anything or had any questions. Hāwī is a sweet little town which sits on the cusp of the rainier (and windier) region of the island, so if it happens to rain there, you can drive a short distance and find sunshine. There a handful of galleries, restaurants and hippie shops to walk to. We were pleased with our stay and hope to return. Thank you Larry and Betty!

Clean, comfortable, well stocked, and good location. Our stay was great. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. Hawi is a nice town with good food and several interesting shops. Definitely not a luxury resort area. The walk to town is short but no sidewalk along a busy street means you need to be careful. Great place to stay, great hosts, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Wonderful hosts; terrific location

Everything about this place was wonderful, but the highlight was the hosts. Meeting them and staying here felt like staying with friends. The location is terrific, and the space is great. The whole apartment was spotless. But the warm greeting -- including snacks! -- was the best part of this terrific experience.

Beautiful house, peaceful property, amazing owners!!

The location of this house was perfect for our trip, right in the heart of Hawi. The property was peaceful and the house was beautiful and well cared for, Betty & Lawrence really put attention to detail in everything. They were really accommodating, helpful and responsive, all the way from the booking up until check out. They really helped us feel like we were on vacation. Having a peaceful, beautiful home to return to after a long day made our trip to 100% better. Mahalo Betty & Lawrence! We hope to visit Hawi again.

Great apartment to relax!

This apartment has a lot of the comforts and conveniences of home. The kitchen has high quality appliances and cookware, plus the hosts were kind enough to give us some excellent local fruit and a few things to snack on when we arrived. The wraparound lanai is wonderful for hanging out - and for morning yoga! The hosts also have a closet full of beach gear that we used - beach chairs as well as snorkel gear and boogie boards. It was great! The Hawi area is a bit away from the main tourist destinations on the island, but that makes it more relaxing. Highly recommend this place! I will say, though, that we did not stay here for our entire trip, as it is a bit far from certain things that we wanted to do/see.

A wonderful place on the Big Island

This was a great place to stay. It felt quite roomy and open. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable. Everything was very clean. While we were there, the temperatures were moderate -- we needed the fans and cross ventilation, and used the air conditioners in the bedroom sometimes, but it was quite comfortable. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. Hawi is mostly outside the touristy zone, so it's less crowded and more relaxed than say Kona. This was one of the best places I've ever stayed with VRBO.

Great place

This property is totally set up for your comfort and has all all you would need for a fun time on the Big Island. One of the best VRBO's we have ever stayed in. The guide books and Binders they made up were a huge help in guiding us around the various places. The air conditioners in the bedrooms were a difference maker for us and much appreciated. The Host are just great people
