Room on ground floor with 3 windows facing the car park, very hot, no possibility to change to „cooler“ room, bathroom ok, breakfast fine, building magnificent. Wall picture came off in the middle of the night startling us half to death, broken glass all over the floor.

There is plenty of parking behind this beautiful building. The front desk is hidden next to the coffee shop, which is very cozy. The employees are very welcoming and go out of their way to answer questions. Since it is an old building it is hard to navigate at first. Plenty of stairways and corridors but the stained glas, mosaic tile floors and old woodwork more than make up for it. The bar as well as the restaurant are located in circular rooms which, especially since combined with the other features of the old building, makes them very grand yet cozy. The restaurant always had people waiting on their reservation , at least they had the grand bar to do it in. Breakfast is good, buffet as well as a la carte option , French press coffee. I love the location of this hotel, mere steps from downtown area of Durham

Das windige Durham in einem traumhaften Hotel
Dieses Hotel ist eine Reise wert, es hat sehr schöne Zimmer, eine angenehme Atmosphäre und tolles Essen! - Einfach beim Frühstück war es sehr kalt und zugig im Restaurant, welches eine sehr hoher Kuppelraum ist. Dafür hat es einen kleinen aber zweckmässigen Fitnessraum und eine sehr heimelige Bar im Entre Bereich sowie einen ganz neuen sehr guten Aussenparkplatz.

This was a great property to stay at. Lovely bed and a fantastic shower. It is a grade listed building having previously been Durham's council chambers, and for a while part of the university. The cathedral, castle and town are all walking distance. Highly recommend

The hotel has been beautifully restored from council offices to a stunning hotel - retaining a lot of the original features- the dining room was the old courthouse with a good architect and interior designer they have created a beautiful room- with lovely food, service and a well stocked bar with really good cocktails- I would highly recommend a visit

Hotel was great. Lovely old building. Nicely refurbished, with a a contemporary feel. Staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Difficult to find fault. Only thing I would say is drinks in the bar were extortionate.

Fire alarm went off at 3:30am and everyone had to evacuate. Not fault of staff I assume, probably some idiot vaping. Not the most relaxing night due to this and pillows a bit too soft. Love the bathroom the most.

Great hotel in an amazing building - old county hall. 2 mins walk to town. Excellent breakfast, nice, modern, very clean rooms. Parking a bit expensive but that's the price you pay for being in the centre of town

Excellent hotel - our third stay. We were looking forward to the breakfast as on our last two stays it was excellent. Bit disappointed this time We were down at nine but it looked as if everything had run out and not been replenished. Had to struggle to get service and espresso was luke warm. The hotel was fully booked so may be this was the problem. Would still return though lovely place to stay

Great weekend stay at this beautiful hotel could not fault anything. Very clean, all staff are very friendly. Didn't have evening meal as the restaurant was fully booked but breakfast was perfect

This hotel is in a listed building and so suits guests who like stained glass windows and quirky shaped rooms more than the big spaces of many contemporary hotels. Rooms are quite dark, as ceiling lights are not permitted, but they are comfortable and welcoming. Meals are taken in a stunning, round room, which more than compensates for rather ordinary food. Marco Pierre White needs to up his game here! We would definitely book this hotel again. Staff in all parts of the hotel are very friendly and helpful.

I found the room lighting is too dark. The spotlight is only enough for reading and the rest of the room remained rather dark.

Lovely hotel- awful room
Most uncomfortable bed/pillows I have ever slept on. The room was freezing and excessively dark. Had to use my phone torch to see the air conditioning controls. One bottle of water for two of us. We had a room which felt like it had been cut in half- it felt claustrophobic. Car park charges are extortionate. Use the multi storey for the shopping centre- only a few mins walk. Shower was lovely though and we did enjoy most of the breakfast. The hotel communal areas are beautiful. Would not return unfortunately.

Excellent hotel. A gem in the Hotel Indigo chain
Was only here for a quick 1 night stay and arrived early evening. Great location to explore Durham with parking located at the back of the building. Was checked in easy by friendly staff. Room was very comfortable, clean and modern. One of the nicest rooms I’ve stayed in and was impressed by the unique decor which tied into Durham and the North East. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options. This will be the first hotel I look at when staying in the region again for business or pleasure.
