My husband and I stayed in this VRBO for three weeks.
The king sized bed was very comfortable and the window air conditioner, with the help of floor and ceiling fans, helped keep the property comfortable despite the heat wave.
We found the inside of the house to be very dark. To have adequate light it was necessary to move floor or tabletop lamps around to areas as we used them. The property could also benefit from a thorough dusting. Baseboards, floor lamp bases, toilet paper base, bed frame, etc. are all coated with a thick layer of dust. Also, I went to use the bed in the second bedroom, and, when I lifted the covers, I found a candy wrapper. I have to assume that the sheets had not been laundered prior to our arrival.
The most disappointing part of our stay was the lack of outdoor space. The pictures of the property show a lovely pergola in the back with the suggestion of comfortable seating . There is no pergola, the back yard consists of a pile of discarded lumber on one side and a roll of chain link like fencing on the other. There is one comfortable chair, 2 straight back wrought iron chairs and 4 not real clean camping chairs.
The property is over 100 years old and, understandably, the kitchen is small so we planned to rely on the backyard grill. Upon our arrival we noted the propane tank was almost empty and after grilling 3 or 4 times, the tank ran out of propane. The owner’s response
was that we should take the tank and refill it at Towne Pump for $20.00. Instead, we borrowed a full tank from family members in town. The night before we departed we received a message from the owner stating my “husband noticed today you swapped the propane tank out with the empty one. Is that correct?” I replied that yes, we had returned the full one. The response was “ typically our renters use things like the grill or our bar in the honor system…if you use it you replace it. That’s a shame” . Another comment was that now the next guests would arrive to an empty tank.
It has been my VRBO experience that propane for a grill, which is named as an amenity, is the owner’s responsibility to keep full. If husband was onsite to notice he should replace. If he was not on site then they should have someone locally to handle such things - and then they were watching us on the backyard camera.
The interaction with the owners was unpleasant. We would not stay at this property again.
