Liked: quiet, friendly reception staff. easy access to room. Reception staff quick to respond to request for help. Light rail stop almost in front of property so could travel easily. Did not like: ignored at restaurant- area when I went to ask a question. Room cleanliness so so- food marks on light switch there before we arrived and still there 2 days later. floor in bathroom had visible marks (sticky blobs) there from before we arrived. Would have been nice to have a biscuit or two waiting for when we checked in to have with our coffee as those without cars could not go immediately shopping. broken glass near front entrance in the shrub not noticed or removed. Maybe someone doing a check of the surrounds twice daily? only takes a few minutes.

I really liked the ambience of Pavilion on Northbourne. You walk in and are greeted by a lovely atrium bar and cafe, surrounded by lush greenery and plants. It's a great place to have your morning breakfast, a drink with a friend. The pool is also conveniently located if you feel like a refreshing dip on a cold Canberra morning! Logistics-wise, its also just a few minutes walk from the Light Rail which takes you into Canberra City with ease.

Asking a couple questions at the check in I was told there was a list in my room that would answer all my questions. Really? So personal interaction is not part of the hotel experience any more? Well, I hadn’t seen rude until I arrived at breakfast. They make you prebook the night before to save $5 off the $29 price tag. What they don’t tell you is that coffee is not included. There is some brown coffee-like liquid included and when I told the staff it needed refilling they took me back to it and kept pressing it violently, to show me that there were still three drops left. They did refill it eventually. They didn’t need to be rude about it. Breakfast had all the usuals but it didn’t taste good. The “gym” is a small windowless room with maybe five machines. I specifically looked for a hotel with a gym and this is not acceptable. The pool was fine. The balcony attached to my room was filthy. The room itself is well-sized and nice. So is the shower. What I didn’t like is that the aircon was either freezing or heating. It couldn’t be turned off and was a little too noisy for my liking. All in all, I can find a decent room for that price at any hotel and this one doesn’t deliver on service, food or extras. Do not recommend.

Excellent customer service. Good location. Room facilities are bit outdated and the bathroom is small. Love the courtyard which is the best for relaxing after a long busy day out.

I did not like being told at 1.45pm that room is not yet ready (which it was) and I had to wait till 2pm to check-in. It was a silly and anti-service attitude, when I could have easily been checked in straight away. I was told to come back in 15 minutes and when I did, other people were checking in, meaning a further wait. While not a big deal it was unnecessarily poor attitude of the staff, all other places I have ever been to are more than happy to check in early, if room is available (which it was). Totally understand if it isn't...also it wasn't as if the check in clerk was doing anything else, he just stood there till 2pm when he started to let people check in...my first but definitely last time I am staying at the Pavilion

It is pretty sad when a hotel keeps the noisy guest and forces a mother and her 12 year old son to leave the property and sleep in their car in a park due to the ongoing noise and banging which was scaring our 12yo. An exciting trip to Canberra to compete at the Annual Show ruined with a nightmare stay.and no sleep.

Check-in staff member was very brusque - held his hand up when I asked him where parking was as if to stop me asking because that was coming later in his spiel! We ordered room service dinner and it was cold but that may have been because there was a fire alarm at about 10pm and they forgot to warm the food up afterwards. (Not a big problem.) The beds and room were very comfortable. Unfortunately the TV didn’t work and the light in the bathroom flickered like a strobe light but all in all the price of the room was reasonable for a comfortable night’s sleep. Check-out staff was lovely.

Have stayed here many times before but this time was a negative experience. There was a fire alarm which turned about to be a false alarm. There were no fire wardens giving guests instructions or even checking to see if there were any guests who may need assistance. The people in the room above were extremely noisy all hours of the day & night.

Whilst convenient location and overall good amenities, our stay was let down by a serious safety breach. On our first night, the fire alarm went off early evening and a strong burning smell was detected. My wife and I quickly vacated using the stairs. YET NOT one single staff member/designated Fire Warden (who should have been attired with labelled fluro vest and helmet) appeared or to give directions to an evacuation area. A muffled voice of non-English background announcement was heard once but no one could understand it. And guests in out building did not evacuate because there was no directions. We gave advice to them but confusion reigned. It was a shambles and breached all current fire regulations of national safety. Upon finding staff in the main foyer and the alarm still ringing, we were advised to return to our rooms as they had to wait for the fire authorities to arrive. We remained in the car park assuming it was the muster station. This procedure by your accommodation and staff was a serious and major concern with a major investigation warranted!

The stay was great, I felt very comfortable in my room. It was clean and had basically all I needed. It smelled very clean as well. Very good value for the price I paid. The pool was wonderful, and it is right next to the tram line a few minutes out of the centre city. It had 24-hours room service, and I felt safe leaving my bags there on my last day after checking out. It was a safe area. The hotel can get noisy in the afternoon but was absolutely peaceful in the evening. The coffee from the cafe could have been stronger. I would book again!
