Views of coastal seascape with rocky outcroppings and sandy beaches are available from the courtyards, with great seating available, and from the comfort of the separate library. And you can watch across the courtyard from inside your suite as the sunset twilight takes over the ocean.
CHECK-IN We'll send check-in information immediately after you book a stay with us, and someone on our team will meet you on arrival to show you where to park.
BEDS You'll find a very comfortable queen bed in your suite along with extra blankets & pillows. And your hosts can provide a comfy floor mattress for a third person for your use if needed. (Note: This suite works best for two adults or two with a child. Three adults are allowed but not recommended.)
BATHROOM, TUB & SHOWERS Your private bathroom features a large bathtub and a 'two person' tiled shower with separate shower heads, each with separate controls. There is endless hot water, plus loads of extra towels and a few travel necessities such feminine products, toothpaste, dental floss, shaving cream & safety razors. There is even a small sewing kit - which in fact saved a bride's dress one fine day!
ROBES & SLIPPERS When you get up in the morning put on one of the freshly laundered robes with slippers provided by your hosts and relax into your day.
KITCHEN In your suite you'll find a full kitchen with stove, oven, a full refrigerator, toaster and a microwave oven, along with a pour-over coffee making system.
COFFE, TEAS & MORE The cupboards are stocked with great coffee and a large selection of top quality teas, along with packages of hot cocoa and hot cereals. There are also a few individually sized cold cereals and a few fun snack treats. In your refrigerator you'll find juices, small bottled waters, half-n-half milkette creamers (single serving half-n-half's) for your coffee or tea, with an ice tray in the freezer section.
DINING AREAS The unit has a breakfast bar for meals - see pictures. There is also an outdoor dining area available and a picnic table with ocean views for your use.
SMALL DESK & WI-FI You'll have a small desk & chair for work or study projects, plus excellent Wi-Fi with good upload and download speeds.
LIBRARY The big, comfortable library is not part of your private suite - but it is exclusively available for you and other guests (your hosts do not use it). It has big, comfortable chairs for reading & relaxation. You'll also find a few yoga mats if needed. There are a lot of books for children of all ages plus a wide variety of thought-provoking books for adults, such as "The Four Agreements" and "The Power of Now". It also has a few history books and many of the classics.
LIBRARY HOURS the common area library hours (we call it "The Quiet Room" because no talking or music is allowed) are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.
CONNECT WITH NATURE There is NO TV so in the morning plan to relax, read or take your coffee out to sit in one of the comfortable outdoor seating areas and enjoy the breathtaking views. Or you might want to consider exploring local beaches, seeing the redwoods or connecting with any of the many other outdoor adventures we'll tell you about when you book your stay.
BEACH ACCESS We're located on a cliff directly above the beach with no current access down the side of the cliff to the beach below, but it is just a two minute drive to BEACH-LEVEL PARKING at Harris Beach State Park.
SOUTH HARRIS BEACH South Harris Beach, which is one of the best ocean beaches on the Oregon coast, is even closer; it is just a ten minute walk or a one minute drive to get there.
LONE RANCH BEACH Lone Ranch Beach with lots of tide pools with starfish and other sea life is a four minute drive north.
HARBOR BEACH The magnificent driftwood covered beach at the harbor is just five minutes south.
SECRET BEACH Secret Beach is wild and scenic and it's just a quick 10 or 12 minute drive north on US Highway 101.
WHALE WATCHING Resident gray whales can be seen all year but they are more frequently spotted in the summer and fall when they feed closer to shore.
REDWOOD NATURE TRAIL Walking under the canopy of a redwood forest is like being in a natural cathedral. The mile long and quite walkable Redwood Nature Trail is just 9 miles away. And world famous Jedediah Smith Redwoods Park is just 22 miles south on US Highway 101.
WILD RIVERS The Chetco River, with some of the best salmon runs in the world plus a lot of trout and steelhead, runs right through Brookings. And the cold waters of the Smith River, just a few miles south of Brookings, also has plenty of fish, especially salmon and trout.
OCEAN FISHING Thee are well over a dozen ocean charter fishing companies and fishing guides available in the harbor just two miles south of our property.

FRONT COURTYARD HOURS The front courtyard, including the picnic tables, seating at the fountain and cliffside "overlook-views seating" is available at all times.
REAR COURTYARD HOURS For guest privacy the rear courtyard hours are 9 a.m. to sunset; please don't use the rear courtyard after dark or before 9 a.m.
PARKING Please park parallel to the white property wall on right side as you pull into the driveway, or if no room there please park near the Electric Vehicle chargers on the other side of the driveway.
PARKING IF CAR LEAKS If your vehicle leaks oil or other fluids please park just off the street in the gravel area in front of the house.

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS – by Barbara
Patrick & I were (and still are!) grateful & amazed at the good fortune that came our way when we acquired two 'diamond in the rough' coastal properties on the Southern Oregon coast that are right next to each other. They sit side-by-side on just over two cliffside acres overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean.
We are glad it happened because we are always delighted to rent this amazing, entirely separate unit with a private entry, bathroom and living area to our guests..
I had recently retired from a job in the medical field and Patrick had sold his large real estate office when, in March of 2019, we found the coastal property we now live in while on a road trip through Southern Oregon.
The house that is now our home had been on the market 5 years as part of an estate sale & it needed a lot of work, but we loved it the moment we saw it. **We made the best offer we could afford and our offer was accepted! The separate guesthouse that came with it became our first vacation rental .
Then in 2022 our elderly & very kind next-door neighbor, a widower, decided to move to Portland to be with family. His circa 1950 house also needed a lot of work. We were experienced hosts at that point and we knew the location and layout were absolutely perfect for another vacation rental . **So Patrick worked out a deal with the owner and we bought it. Then we put in granite counter tops, tiled showers, redwood decks, heated floors, bigger windows and much more.
Our objective was to create a magical space where people can come to relax in quiet comfort with lots of privacy & stunning ocean views. It worked out perfectly and we're always delighted to rent this amazing, entirely separate unit with a private entry, bathroom and living area to our guests.

I must say that staying in this slice of paradise has set the bar pretty high for everyone else. Where do I begin? The view! We made a concerted effort to sit outside and drink our coffee every morning and cap off the day with an adult beverage of choice in this view. It is a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean in all its glory. Water as far as the eye can see. Waves crashing into the rock formations over and over. And a sunrise or sunset that is unmatched. You have several seats to chose from and sit and enjoy. I then move on to the unit itself. The cleanest unit we’ve stayed in so far off highway 101. The attention to detail and the thoughtfulness of the hosts really make the difference. And in between the view of the ocean and the unit itself is a beautifully landscaped courtyard with a variety of colors. Very spacious and it even has electric car chargers for whoever has one. If it were up to us we’d give it 10 out of 5 stars.

The place is beautifully situated on the bluffs above the Pacific. Great views from the deck and a mildly obstructed view from Gatden View 1. The place is immaculate and has an impressive array of amenities. Patrick was very helpful throughout our brief stay. There is an understated emphasis on spirituality but certainly not overbearing. I would definitely recommend staying here

Phenomenal VRBO Stay!! We didn't want to leave!! From the moment we stepped foot here we were pinching ourselves! If you have hit this listing - book it! You will not be disappointed. From the start, Diane gave us a wonderful tour of the property - no detail has gone untouched. From slippers and fluffy robes to coffee, heated floors, basic staples to any kitchen needs and a well-appointed space are yours for your stay. The beautiful sunsets are different every night and stunning. There is a quiet Library you can discover and read or just watch the world go by. It's a wonderful touch to an already splendid property! You will find yourself close enough to take nice hikes and if you have a car, a short distance is a Marina where we bought fresh local fish and prawns and enjoyed Peel and Eat 'em shrimp one night by the sunset. Other nights I brought Charcuterie out with us. As stated in their listing; the hosts live on premise, and they do not disturb; I can attest to that. They are a very kind and charming couple. I enjoyed painting by the window looking at the beautiful flowers in front of our unit. They have beautiful flowers and landscape everywhere!! They also put in EV charging stations. We've used VRBO since 2011 and this is one of the most beautiful, well-appointed properties we've ever stayed at. Thank you so much Patrick and Barbara for opening up your beautiful property for others to enjoy! We sure did!!

We had a wonderful stay! The sunset view from the property is absolutely fantastic—it was the perfect place to relax and take it all in. Super friendly greeting at security gate and got a nice tour of the property. The view from the shared library and patio is probably the best I've ever had at a rental. Our room was immaculately clean, high-end furnishings with every tiny detail thoughtfully executed! From new toothbrushes and toothpaste to a fresh flower to coffee, tea, sweeteners, even some apple juices and fresh half and half in the fridge. I could go on and on but would literally run out of room. Looking forward to our next stay here!

Short but Sweet
We had an overnight at the coast to celebrate our anniversary.The accommodations were great. I loved the spacious, wonderful shower. The ocean views from the back courtyard were beautiful.The host provided nice extras- snacks, delicious coffee & tea!It was very quiet and comfortable.

This place was amazing. From the views to the service fantastic. They thought of everything not just the normals but even the extras. It was very clean and thought out. Would recommend it to anyone. And if I’m ever in the area, I will stay there again without a doubt.

Anniversary Stay
The property was quite and simply beautiful. The location is perfect within the middle of town which reduced driving. Although we explored, we spent a lot of time talking in the views from the property. Having a kitchen and a comfy bathtub were bonuses!

Anniversary retreat
Great place to reminisce about proposing on Harris Beach 40 years ago. Easy walking to both the beach and to town.
