Great Location, Stunning Lake View, but Cabin Needs Serious Updates

We stayed at this lakefront cabin in Big Bear Lake for a June 2025 weekend getaway. While the location and lake view were highlights, the property fell short and we wouldn’t return unless it’s significantly improved.The Good: The location is great—close to Big Bear Village’s shops and restaurants—with a beautiful lake view. Waking up to the water and mountains was a treat, and the area was perfect for summer activities like the Alpine Coaster and Boulder Bay Park.The Not-So-Good: The cabin felt small, dark, and very dated—far from the modern look in the photos. The spa was unusable, filled with grimy water and a cover caked in bird droppings. The dock was cluttered, carpeted with torn, dirty material, and lacked the inviting setup neighboring docks had. The dock also had a boat so we were glad we decided to not rent one because there was no safe place to dock it! The lower deck was rundown, covered in dirt and spider webs, and had unsafe loose steps. Inside, a steep stairway at the entrance was tough for older family members. The furniture was worn, with sagging couches and an unpleasant urine smell in the main bedroom. Upstairs was stifling, and the downstairs—while cooler—wasn’t cozy. The “game room” only had a crooked foosball table.Final Thoughts: We loved the lake and the area, but the cabin itself needs serious attention. The photos are misleading, and we recommend confirming recent renovations before booking. We wouldn’t stay again unless major upgrades are made.

Perfect Location

Absolutely loved the location and the views. There were a couple issues with breakers when we arrived that were resolved quickly. Unfortunately we had a similar problem the next day and I think my call at the answering service wasn’t forwarded as I had to call back after not getting a response for a few hours. Once I talked to someone the issue was resolved quickly and easily. The house itself was nice, but did seem a bit neglected in some ways - mainly due to the holes and stains on some of the throw pillows on the couches. I would also recommend having the suitcase holders available so guests can unpack. I had to unbury the one in the king bedroom as it was buried under pillows and I had no where else to put my suitcase or anywhere to unpack. The outside of the property also could use a power wash and maintenance. I understand cobwebs, but we felt like we had to clean all the outdoor furniture before we enjoyed it. Overall it was a lovely stay, the management was responsive despite a small hiccup, and we would certainly recommend them. The small details o mentioned were minor and hopefully this is good feedback for the owners to improve upon for future guests. Thanks for having us, we will likely use your properties again in the future!

Very dissatisfied

We really liked the location of the cabin, but the mattresses and bedding was really old and didn’t smell or looked fresh. We couldn’t sleep at nights because the mattresses were very uncomfortable. The carpets were old, the master bedroom was freezing cold. Overall cleanliness wasn’t fresh.

Disappointed

The house has a nice view. However, it was dusty, dirty and full of spider webs. I’m asthmatic and had several coughing spells from the must and dust. I was glad I didn’t obtain a third day stay there. The entire area was full of yellow pollen and so was my vehicle. The parking was insufficient too. I was disappointed.

Bare Essentials at Big Bear

Property location great on the shrinking lake. Decor lacking- I.e. the sinkhole sofa, multiple remotes for old tv- frustrating (so you read a book). Silverware and plates are mismatched, broken shade in living room, jungle of wires at modem, provided wrong Wi-Fi password. Nose to the wall shower. h Hazardously steep staircase to lower level. Should one fall their head would likely hit the foos ball table. Not close to what I would consider a luxury resort by any means. Bigbearlakefrontcabin, dealt with a rude employee and, many emails - it was most annoying. Hotels are my preferred places next trip. Hospitality app not desired, beside not ready prime time…

Gorgeous location, dog friendly, overall nice accommodations

Really enjoyed our family getaway in March. With few neighbors around, it was a quiet, beautiful experience with a lakeside view of the bay, and birds visiting the porch. Castle Rock trail within walking distance of the house. We like a lived-in cabin feel, so this was a good fit for us. That said, some things should be updated - couch in main living room sinks really low as if it needs repair, and the bathrooms could use some updating. The rental management communications were a bit confusing because the emailed instructions don't necessarily match the actual expectations for check-in/check-out, and the call center service does not have the correct information for the property that the local team management does. When in doubt, be proactive and talk to a local rep. Overall, it was fairly clean, but not at the level I would expect from a professional cleaning service, e.g., some hairs in the bathroom and on linens, some scrubbable calcium deposits around sink faucets. Also, there is no broom or vacuum to do your own clean-up of the floors. The kitchen has most of the basic needs covered, but definitely bring your own spices if you plan to cook and need anything other than salt and pepper. Hot tub was really nice - it was warm and ready to go! Overall, we had a wonderful visit and would go again.

Excellent location right on the lake. It is on the shady side and the property still had snow on it. The Hot tub was very relaxing. Nice quiet area. Kitchen was fully stocked with all the cooking utensils. Water pressure is great. The only negative is the couches are old and need to be replaced.

Spacious house with awesome view. House and it’s contents are dated and could use a little TLC.

All went pretty well. Cell service didn’t work at property so email with access to house was a bust. Finally worked it out. With all the listed instructions for the property, the spa key location should be listed. View was great!

Memorable stay

We had a great stay over the long holiday weekend. The location was fantastic. We particularly enjoyed the large upstairs deck. The view was so beautiful. The house although dated looked better in person than in pictures. Had some nice mountain charm to it. We found it to be very cozy. There were things that could have been cleaner (sticky cups, pans left in oven not washed, super dusty pillows) but the beds were super comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Some reviewers mentioned the upstairs area and kitchen are really dark. It is! The kitchen in particular could use some pendant lighting so keep this in mind for the darker months. The automated lock on the front door did not work so check in was a bit of a hassle but the property management was very responsive and helped us. Also the downstairs toilet overflowed after the first use and they sent a plumber out right away. Really appreciated that. Also note the fuse ball table has one broken arm so that needs to be addressed. Once we figured out how to unlock the hot tub it worked great. Keep in mind the dock is super low. If you are planning to swim off it it is very marshy and full of seaweed. We were still able to enjoy it however. We loved hanging out on the dock watching the boats go by, floating in tubes and SUP’ing. Note- the owner does not provide a propane tank. So if you are planning to bbq be sure to pick one up on your way into town. Overall this home was great.

Loved: Dock Lake Views Deck Kitchen OK: Wifi had to be rebooted to gain access to it. Needs Work: WIFI Instructions from managers was incorrect (use the owners notes inside) Deck was pretty beat up on bottom section and possibly starting to get dangerous. Missing/broken HDMI cables in bottom TV Some of the blinds are not operational Managers gave us alarm instructions but the alarm was in error state and couldnt be turned on/off (confusing)
