I am happy you were pleased with your accommodations, and as our photos and web site show, we are one of the few roadside mom and pop inns who have been able to survive the deluge of big-box hotels by offering good clean accommodations for a fair price. We are located 5 miles out of a small town on the shores of Lake Superior, but really- a set up for a slasher movie? There are beautiful family homes right above the motel and neighbors on both sides of the motel. Our crime rate is so low we do not even lock our doors most of the time, and there are 5 police departments who patrol our county roads around the clock. To ensure our guest's comfort, our motel doors have double door locks and a chain lock, and we are available 24 hours a day at a moment's notice if there are problems.

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. After our restaurant, which housed the motel office, burned down exactly one year ago today, I have tried to go online to delete all references of the restaurant from any website as to not have guests be disappointed when they arrive and see a sandlot instead of the great restaurant we once had. We left the restaurant name on our big illuminated sign as we plan to rebuild in the spring. If you would be so kind as to inform me where you saw our restaurant advertised, I can correct that web site also. We have been using our laundry room as a motel office until we rebuild. It is not the same as having our old regular office back, but we live next door and are available by phone 24 hours a day. As we are one of the few remaining mom and pop roadside inns left, we can offer a lower room rate than the big box hotels that some guests prefer, and some guests do not want to pay exorbitant rates that other local hotels charge on the weekends of our color season. I apologize for the road traffic, in all the years I have been here, I never saw as much traffic as I did last week during the peak color season. Thankfully, tonight we have returned to the normal sounds of Lake Superior waves rolling onto the shore.

Wow! I can't believe the traffic this week! I think everyone who did not vacation this summer took their trips now. The falls colors have been spectacular, and the weather has been perfect. The local university has had events this week that have drawn guests from all over, and the Keweenaw had a new event yesterday called Plaiderday, where everyone wore plaid and they were trying to set a new World Bood of Records record for most plaid. That drew alot of people, as well as the university homecoming. We have never seen so many trucks and campers on the road. Thankfully things settle down after dark and it quiets down. Other than the traffic which is bothersome to all of us, I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Thank you,

Thank you for staying with us. The local internet company is installing new fiberoptic cable underground to accommodate the 5G and faster internet to come, and I called the phone company who said they would look into it, but the machines that bury the cable underground are not finished yet so the phone company was not sure if anything could be done until next week if or when it stops raining. It has inconvenienced us all, but they promised that the new 5G will be so fast we will be happy. I checked the air conditioner, and it did cool, and there is a box fan behind the door. We did have to turn the heaters on as it has been so cold and rainy. There have been so many travelers on the roads this week with the end of the color season tours, I am sorry the noise was bothersome to you.

You should have stayed a couple more days, we had the blizzard of the year yesterday and today, there is a 8 ft drift through the parking lot and the sledders are having a blast surfing the drifts with their machines! You would really enjoy your warm and cozy room tonight, we are in the middle of an old-fashioned all- out snow blowing, wind off Lake Superior blizzard but are toasty warm inside! I do have my slippers on, too! Hope you will stay with us again when you travel to Baraga County.

I agree, we do have a beautiful view. I am not sure what time you wrote this comment but during the day all the ice blew out and it is open water again in front of the motel, and the sky cleared blue. Hope you got to appreciate that too!

I am sorry for the mix up in your reservation. Our motel is open 24/7, and the only time I was gone yesterday was after school when I ran into town to pick up my son so he would not have to ride the bus. Our restaurant has seasonal hours, and I am thinking you saw the restaurant hours sign in the window and thought we were closed instead of looking in the lobby message board where your note and key were. I did learn a lesson and bought another signboard to put a motel sign in the window that I think may alleviate any misunderstanding when a guest pulls in and sees the closed restaurant sign so they know our motel is open. It has been a challenge the past few weeks even looking like we are open as we plow and shovel and the grounds look great then we get dumped on with snow and have to clean up snow again, which is what happened yesterday also with the winds blowing snow off Lake Superior. Of course, you will not be charged for your reservation, and I hope you will give us another chance someday.

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. I want to address your concerns directly with you but the only Colleen reservation I could find stayed with us in October, and your review was posted December 30. The restaurant is closed on Sundays, and when any guest checks in after hours- whether it be during the week or on a Saturday,-we tell them about the closest convenience store 3 miles away as they have an awesome inventory of snacks and beverages in case our guests do not travel with their own. I believe the stain in the carpet you are referring to is not a stain, but an imprint where a discourteous guest chose to iron on the carpeting and burned an iron imprint in it, rather than ask us for our ironing board. This burn cannot be removed, but rather the entire room will have to be recarpeted. I inspected our rockers and did not find one with a stain, but our housekeeper cleaned the seats anyway. As we are an older motel, counterspace is limited but I can assure you that our fridges and microwaves are secure and we would not endanger anyone by precariously stacking them, and our tables are also secure and even you could even sit on them and they would not collapse. Liability is a concern for any business owner and we would not endanger any guest, As we have at the door parking, we cannot control which spot our guests choose to park in, unless it is a big truck or van and we can guide them to a larger spot. If you stayed at a big-box hotel you would have to haul your luggage inside to your room too. We are happy to assist any guest who asks us to help them with their luggage. If you could reveal the name your reservation was booked under, I can check invoices and would refund your $15.00 pet fee for you if you wish.

I am surprised you never saw me as we had big Christmas parties Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the restaurant and my husband and I spent almost all day each day there getting ready for them! I kept an eye out for you, and you left early and returned late each day. I am wondering if you can let me know why you think we do not keep the motel up so I can improve any deficiency you found. I do realize that with all the snow we had and all the cars in the parking lot, it is difficult to cleanly plow and shovel until the cars are moved. I am aware of the guest who has all the driftwood, rocks, birch bark and pine boughs gathered in front of her room and I told her she had to neatly pile it because it did not look like a clean appearence but she said she is into spirituality and needs those things to work with, but would not collect any more.

That was quite a storm we had, I was glad the power was only out for 3 hours as the outage encompassed a 15 mile radius and some areas did not get power till noon! Unless the cell towers are hit, we have cell service And our landline number works without electricity. Our emergency and after hours numbers are clearly posted. Our night manager Mike is onsite and contacted me right away unfortunately we have to patiently wait for the power company to repair downed lines- this time it was a blown transformer in Baraga-before power is restored. I am sorry for the inconvenience Mother Nature caused us all!

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. I was about 5 minutes late arriving for work, my son was admitted to the hospital in a diabetic coma and I wanted to stay and speak with the doctor before I went to work and the doctor was late in making rounds. There was one other guest waiting to check in and I worked as quickly as I could to check them in. I also have had to stand in line and wait at other hotels and know how impatient I get while waiting. I wish our restaurant could e open more hours but with the government stimulus money and his extended unemployment benefits, it is difficult getting people to work. Any of our staff who were there could have gotten you anything you wanted to drink while you were waiting if you would have asked them for it. Our cooks and servers are more than accommodating to our guests. I will investigate which room you were in and speak to the housekeeper, as it is not common practice for us to rent dirty rooms to guests. I cannot do much about moths flying around, they are pretty hard to catch unless they sit still. As we are on the water, some guests prop their doors open packing and unpacking, and we do attempt to exchange outdoor air in our rooms with our COVID cleaning to ensure rooms are fresh. We are the lowest prices motel of the three in our town. I will pass your comments on to our staff.
