Highly Disappointed
We rented the host’s (Glenn) property on May 8 for 4 nights for our son’s graduation celebration from Clemson. Intense storms came through the first night. The next morning when we returned to the property around 11, the front part of the home under the porch had collapsed. There was no ground underneath the porch. We did not enter the home because we were concerned about its structural integrity. The lower level of the home was flooded because the foundation in the front of the house collapsed through an underground door in one of the bedrooms. Our belongings were soaked. We notified Glenn who sent the home builder to the property. The builder arrived a couple of hours later. He made an assessment and allowed us to enter the home to pack our belongings, except the front room next to the porch. He emptied that room for safety purposes. It took a few hours to pack as we waded through the flooded basement. We vacated the property that afternoon.
Because the lower level and the front room of the home were unusable, we were unable to host our party of 25. For that reason, we had to return home (3 hrs away), canceling events planned in Clemson with the 17 other family members who were to arrive that evening.
Given our stay was ruined, we were disappointed in how the transaction was ultimately settled by Glenn for the days we were unable to remain in the home. Although Glenn had no control over this act of nature, he is responsible for the manner he handled the transaction.
