Newly Updated Beachfront Condo with Terrace, Pool & Daily Service

  • Playa Caribe 5 is a second-floor condo in the central tower of Half Moon Bay’s Playa Caribe. With two bedrooms, each furnished with a king bed and ensuite bath, plus a queen sofa bed in the living room, it sleeps five comfortably. Both bedrooms have ocean views and a small balcony overlooking the bay.

    The condo is newly updated and filled with bright touches of Mexican design—hand-painted Talavera tiles, local textiles, and a cheerful dining space with sea views. A fully equipped kitchen includes modern appliances and a large dining area. The oceanfront terrace offers incredible Caribbean views and a perfect place to enjoy coffee, meals, or evening cocktails.

    Daily housekeeping, purified water, and beach towels keep your stay stress-free. Shared amenities include a pool, BBQ grill, loungers, and outdoor shower. Concierge staff provide support for tours, airport transfers, and grocery delivery.

    Half Moon Bay is part of a secure, gated community with calm waters and a coral reef ideal for snorkeling. Restaurants, Yal Ku Lagoon, Akumal Bay, and dive shops are all within walking distance. A rental car or private driver is recommended for exploring cenotes, ruins, and nearby towns, though taxis and golf carts are readily available. Playa Caribe is one of Akumal’s most established beachfront condominiums, known for attentive service and its prime location.

    KINDLY NOTE: South winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Rivera Maya. While the situation is hard to predict for each specific week and area, we would like you to be aware as there is the potential to impact the beach and water entry.

We have a great list of activities and adventures completely unaffected by the arrival of sargasso that we would love to share with you. Mooi verblijf

We hebben genoten van ons verblijf in Akumal. Mooi appartement, met 2 grote kamers en badkamers, zeer goed onderhouden. Het terras met prachtig uitzicht is een surplus. De check in verliep ook heel vlot.

Covered patio with comfortable loungers was shaded a good share of the day (my preferenence) Easy pool and beach access with great snorkeling right out front. The only downside was being located just above the pool there was often noise during the day. The small kitchen had no condiments, and very short on cutlery. But we had a fabulous maid, Paty who cleaned our cooking messes cheerfully every day.

Overall, the condo was as advertised. The view from the window was spectacular every time you walk in the door. The bedrooms were nice with a king bed in each room and each room had an ocean view. This was nice since we had two couples -- no fighting over who got the best room. The condo was updated and modern which I like -- no concrete couch or garish colors. I think that's fantastic and beautiful -- others might miss the traditional Mexican aesthetic. The kitchen was well stocked. The condo was a little small as there was only 1 couch and 1 chair, so it was hard for everyone to sit together in the living room. That being said, we were very rarely in the living room and spent most of the day out in activities, out by the pool, or out on the deck. The condo is beautifully situated in the middle of Half Moon Bay, close enough to walk into Akumal for dinner or Yal-Kul. We did have an issue with the hot water, it never seemed to get very hot and with water pressure. So, the shower was a big negative. I did call about the hot water and was told to let it run and it will get hot. It didn't. It only seemed hot at certain times of day. Also, we had a problem with the toilet -- it leaked. We sent the team a notice about the leak at 5pm and they got to it the next day, unfortunately that was after it broke over night and caused a minor flood. The did a good job fixing it, but wish we didn't have the flood. All in all a very good trip and I would recommend the condo.

We would not stay in #5 again as it was not well supplied and the fancy mirrors worked part of the time. Basic supplies such as a can opener were missing. We will chose other condos in that complex.

Plenty of towels and purified water! The property managers texted to check on us and respond to our questions. We walked to restaurants and Yal-Ku for snorkeling. The neighborhood was quiet and safe and everyone was kind and welcoming! I’d go back in the winter months when the seaweed isn’t a problem. We were warned, but the amount of seaweed was shocking and we never got in the water in the bay. That was too bad. However we found plenty to do and had a great time.

We were so delighted with our first stay we had to come again and we were not disappointed. Besides a very lovely condo with an incredible balcony, view and most importantly the staff there was even more amazing the second time. We so enjoyed the staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We felt perfectly safe and pampered from the daily cleaning to the help with our luggage. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location and well maintained and updated unit. We appreciated the kitchen amenities since we ate breakfast there daily. Would recommend a few things:1) All but one closet in one bedroom was locked and the unlocked closet had supplies in it leaving limited storage for clothing and luggage.2) It was unclear whether the water was drinkable. The unit had bottled water but usually there is a pitcher and cups in the bathroom to remind people to use this for brushing teeth. This was missing.3) It was unclear if we were to flush toilet paper. We put it in the trash can but it would sure be easier if the trash can lids didn't require lifting. 4) Would be great to have cushions for lounge chairs!

We decided to try PC for the pool, which isn't very common on Half Moon Bay. We were very pleased to have the pool as the ocean was lapping right up to the property. The unit itself far exceeded our expectations. Unit 5 provided two oceanfront bedrooms, a more than adequate living and kitchen space and excellent service by the staff on hand. We spent evenings on our lovely deck, listening to the ocean and enjoying the stars. Special notes: Housekeeping service was superb! Linens were lovely. Beds divine. Showers large although, as is typical in Akumal, hot water was spotty. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Very safe, welcoming and property overall in beautiful and clean condition. Eager to get back!

Nothing can compete with waking every morning and seeing the beautiful blue water. Seriously we were literally within 20ft from the water. The pool was great for laying in the sun or going for a swim. Snorkeling was amazing right out the front door. If you are interested in seeing Tulum or Playa please plan on renting a car. Otherwise everything you need is within walking distance. This is a fantastic property! You won’t regret it for sure.

Don't Hesitate to Book This One--Even in Seaweed Season

I want to address the seaweed concerns as we came in mid-May and were well warned about the potential for seagrass to impede our use of the beach. We almost went somewhere else!There was enough seaweed right at our beach at this unit that it wouldn't have been pleasant to swim from there or use the chairs. But this did not negatively effect our vacation at all. We walked 5 properties up for lunch at La Lunita and swam there and it was seaweed free and clear. You can swim from anywhere, the shoreline is public. We also walked to the lagoon and it was great swimming and snorkeling and seaweed free. We could also walk to Akumal Bay and zero seaweed there and great beach access. The on-site pool is also a great alternative. Don't let it ruin your vacation! This unit on the second floor offers beautiful turquoise water views and you don't even see the seaweed. We looked at booking the "seaweed free" complex but you can't use the beach there 's rock. The tile in the unit was so cute and charming, the sunken tubs are special. Kitchen well appointed. Plenty of extras to borrow or rent on site. Akumal was safe, beautiful and friendly. I will never stay at one of those all inclusives again!

Beautiful and Comfy Place to Stay.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This condo is so beautifully decorated, well appointed and we felt very secure. It had everything we needed. Plus the views from all rooms were amazing and the King bed was super comfortable. The staff was very helpful, and even came late in the evening when the wind blew a bedroom door shut and locked us out. The extra snorkel fins they had by the pool came in handy too. It is a very handy location as well. We loved walking to the village for dinner on occasion, especially recommend the Turtle Cafe and Bakery. Don’t miss walking to the nearby Cenote for snorkeling too. I hope we can return to this lovely condo.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Playa Caribe #5 is enchanting with its colorful interior, wonderful wall decor, and stunning view. We had major issues with internet (never resolved) and tv (never resolved) which caused real challenges with this family trip. Speaking of family, this is not a great unit for all parties. Both bedrooms have charming interior windows that have lovely, but limiting, shutters made from bamboo (or a similar reed plant) and the bamboo sticks have space in between those, which allow all sound to pass and allow some vision between rooms. The same materials and style are present in the interior windows that separate each room's en suite bath and the door for such. Altogether, this means that one of the two bedrooms is not fully isolated from the primary room, there is limited privacy and sound insulation between both rooms and their respective bathrooms, and there would be major safety challenges for a family with young children who inevitably would be drawn to climb through the interior windows.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a lovely condo right on the water with end to end views of Half Moon Bay from the living room and especially from the balcony. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious and decorated with lovely Mexican tile. The website photos are an accurate representation. The condo complex is lovely and well maintained. Lounge chairs and thatched shady cabanas are provided on the beach. The staff is friendly and there is a security guard at night (although Half Moon Bay is a gated community and feels very safe anyway). Things to know: the master bedroom is not fully separated from the living room. There is an arched open space between the two rooms that has a short wall and a wicker screen but the top of the archway is open between the two rooms. Bottled drinking water is provided. Internet wifi is sketchy/poor. The village area by the arch is quite a long walk away (at least 20 minutes) although there are a couple of good restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The beach is white sand but the ocean bottom is very rocky. It is impossible to walk into the water without water shoes. We encountered the seaweed problem. Portions of the bay were murky and seaweed was floating In the water out to about 20 yards. Further down the beach there were portions that were clearer. Seaweed had floated ashore and there was a 2 foot berm/strip of it along the entire length of Half Moon Bay. We got used to this but it prevented the beach from seeming pristine.

Playa Caribe condo 5 is perfect place to stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed 8 days in this condo and we couldn't dream of a better place. Sunrise from the balcony is breathtaking, the view is absolutely stunning. You can see the water not only from balcony but from the living room and bedrooms. The rooms were clean and Patricia, the cleaning lady, was amazing. I love that rooms were being clead daily as we cooked inside as well. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything and more than we need. The only issue we have was the slow internet connection as all 3vof us needed fast connection to work and study.Beach in front of the condo is narrow and sometimes seaweeds are pilled up in the morning, but staff cleans them daily. To enter a water you will need water shoes as it is rocky. Just swim a bit away from the beach and you will find beatiful fish and corals. We were snorkeling every day. Right next to the building there is a small grocery store, very helpfu. 10 minutes walk there is very nice restaurant right on the beach La Buena Vida. We loved it. We also enjoy live music at Taverna restaurant in Akumal(20 minutes walk) where talented saxophonist was playing every Saturday evening at 7pm. The food is delicious, too. Akumal Bay is 20 minutes walk where we bought a ticket to snorkel and spent a day on the beach. We saw turtles, ray, colorful fish, and squid. This was the best trip we ever had. Will stay at the same condo next time for sure.
