The approach to Treffgarne Gorge. Near Treffgarne, the birthplace of Welsh hero Owain Glyndwr, south of Wolf's Castle, the western branch of the River Cleddau cuts its way through a narrow gorge which it shares with both the A40 road and the railway from Fishguard. Above them all are the ruins of Maiden Castle.

Wolf's Castle mound The remains of a C12 motte and bailey castle lie just above the confluence of the Afon Anghof and the Cleddau Wen, a commanding defensive position for the Normans here. It's not certain whether Wolf was one of them, or whether the name comes from the animal itself: the Welsh name Cas Blaidd signifies the latter. This is the motte, the bailey is to the right.

Milford Haven ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt für die Küste Süd-Wales. Hotel ist ziemlich neu, unser Zimmer war sehr groß und hatte einen Balkon. Ein Restaurant ist im Hotel, allerdings etwas teurer. Wenn wir wieder in diese Gegend kommen, würde wir dieses Hotel auf jeden Fall in Betracht ziehen. Pluspunkt ...
