My wife, son and I stayed at the Devenish House from 3rd to 10 June 2017. In short … we loved it. The house is just fabulous. Let’s start at the beginning though. The reservation went well. The owners seem really nice (only chatted per E-Mail, but they made a great impression). Payment is all up front with a deposit. It would be nice to be able to pay with a credit card, but is it currently not possible. Maybe the owners can think about that again. Saying that … the owners do have a GBP and EUR account, so true Europeans shouldn’t have a problem paying either. A quick note on the deposit … the owner’s transfered this back promptly! So no worries there.
The house is in a really nice location in Weymouth. It’s practically on Hope Square, which is near the old harbour. I say „near“ … it really is only a few meters. Being in the old part of a town often means parking problems. Ok, you can’t stay parked in front of the house but you can drop off and pick up there. There’s a public car park only the couple of minutes walk away though. The owners have a season permit so there is nothing to pay. It worked out fine … and we were there with baby. The city centre is only the couple of minutes walk away, as is the Fish n Chip Shop Marlboro. Very recommended.
The house itself is lovely and rises over four floors. We thought it was fantastic. Modern. Clean. The kitchen has everything you would expect (dish washer, washing machine, microwave, pots and pans …). The bathrooms are also modern and well equiped. Have a bath on the fourth floor. Very relaxing. Two TVs with amazon firesticks and amazon prime … just in case it rains. Lol. Actually, we did have quite poor weather while we were there but it really didn’t matter because we loved hanging about in the house and having lazy days. Our son is still quite young, so we weren‘t planning to rush about anywhere anyway. That brings me to another point. The owners were great and provided a travel cot, high chair and a baby bath for us! That really help us cut down and what we needed to bring with us.
The Rotary Club is on one side of the house. The Drama Club on the other. We only hard a tiny bit on Friday night. Certainly nothing to complain about.
Shopping is not a Problem either. There is big ASDA near by. We walked and didn't even bother getting in the car.
We had a great time and I have to give The Devenish House a full 5 stars.
