Casa Potrero.
The property views were excellent. The house cleaner was always there to clean and do Landry. The groundskeeper was there for us when we needed him. The appliances, toaster, coffee machine should be updated. It’s not an expensive endeavor. We were not able to visit with our guests as much at the house because we spent a great deal of the time in our respective bedrooms. The balcony was perfect for enjoying the ocean views, scenery and bird watching. The pool was great for hanging out and staying cool. Overall we were quite happy with the property.

Amazing Views of the Ocean with Short Walk to the Beach
We enjoyed our stay at this home. It is on 2 acres and feels very private. It has amazing views of the ocean. You can sit on the porch and hear the waves which is very relaxing. We enjoyed using the pool each day too. The house is set up with two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms upstairs. The kitchen and family room are also upstairs. You then go down the outside stairs by the porch to get to the third bedroom and bathroom. Every bedroom has its own AC unit so you stay nice and cool at night. The family room can get a little warm during the afternoon but it didn’t bother us. We were usually off doing fun things around the area during that time or we would just sit out on the porch which has three ceiling fans. You can walk to the beach, Playa Prieta, in about 5-7 minutes. It’s an easy walk and the beach is beautiful and not crowded at all. There are trees on the beach you can sit under for shade. We loved playing in the ocean. Go out into the ocean along the middle section of the beach if you want to avoid the rocks. We also took the little trail over to the next beach, Playa Peca. It took us about 5 minutes. That beach is also very pretty with no crowds. We loved the little town Potrero, where the house is located. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk into town. There are lots of restaurants to get food and even an Italian Gelato shop. We tried several of the restaurants and the gelato and they were all really good. We would enjoyed our time and would stay here again.

Great location!
This is a fantastic location with awesome views. Even the shower had a fantastic view. Although the beach is within walking distance, we drove since we had lots to carry and it was a very steep driveway. Loved all the restaurants and beaches nearby. Felt very safe while we were there. It was extremely hot when we visited--95 most days, which made it difficult to want to be outside, but also difficult to be inside the main area of the house--there are fans, but it was very hot. We had planned to make meals at the house, but due to the heat chose to eat out all the meals instead. The bedrooms did have nice AC!! Mindy was very communicative and offered suggestions. I didn't realize that housekeeping services were going to be there--it wasn't something we needed or desired, but might be nice for some. Ana Marie does a nice job cleaning, but because of the location, you definitely will find ants inside. Manageable, but may not be ideal for some kiddos. Really enjoyed our meal at Reparito House.

Lovely house on the hill
We arrived to this lovely home after a long, hot day of travel. The house large, comfortable, has all the amenities you could possibly need, and feels like a home that is lived in rather than a sparse, barren rental like some VRBOs or AirB&Bs we've stayed in. You can walk to the beaches nearby (Playa Prieta & Penca I think) but the walk back is all uphill and while we were there it was 96-97F and for us it was too hot, so we drove. Our favorite part of this Villa was the outdoor space. We loved the covered cabana area and the pool. It was so nice to be out there looking at the views while in the shade and be able to pop in & out of the pool. The main part of the house is not air conditioned, and it was too hot for us to sit in the living area, so we moved outdoors instead in the evenings. The bedrooms do have AC, the beds & pillows were very comfortable, and we slept great! Besides the pool, my other favorite thing about this home was the master shower with large windows giving views down to the ocean. We personally found having a housekeeper/groundskeeper on property while we were there a bit uncomfortable. Ernesto & AnaMarie were kind (no English) but we'd have preferred to not have them there sweeping, cleaning, doing our laundry while we were on site trying to enjoy our vacation. It would have been better for us to not have them at all during our short stay, or for them to have come in while we were out. Overall, I would recommend staying here.

Dazzling view
Spouse and I, son and daughter in law, and 13 year old grandson spent a wonderful 5 days at the house. The only problem we had was that the common area was often uncomfortably warm, so people tended to spend time in their air conditioned bedrooms. The beautiful outdoor areas were great for morning and evening communal time. It’s possible that the inside warmth was just a manifestation of extremely hot weather during our stay.

Glorious!
We spent a week enjoying sunsets in the Nosara area, but this was even better - truly spectacular! We loved hanging out by the pool with the beautiful flora and fauna. Both Playa Penca and Playa Prieta are lovely, and the snorkeling at Playa Prieta was amazing! We loved walking to Reparito House for breakfast. And Ana Maria definitely deserves a shout out!

Amazing house, amazing views!
The views!! We stayed here for a week over the new year and it was fabulous! This house is close to beaches, shops and restaurants. Did I mention the views?? It does sit up on a rather large and steep hill…which is how you get those amazing views! My husband and I were fine walking up and down it and did so for exercise. Our children (9 & 12) didn’t really enjoy it but they did it. If mobility is an issue for some, the hill can be challenging. There was some visible dust (I have a dust allergy) on the TV and glass top table. No big deal, I just cleaned them as cleaning supplies were plentiful. Ana Marie comes everyday to clean up and do laundry. She is so sweet! Ernesto is the property caretaker and he is very kind as well. I only know enough Spanish to get by and it seemed to work when communicating with them. Love that there are plenty of books stocked in the house and plenty of cooking supplies. Also, loved when the dogs came to visit. They are timid and very sweet. The birds are so fun to watch in the morning and afternoons. Renting a car is a must. It’s very easy to get around in your own vehicle. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and I’m so glad we chose this location. We will definitely be back! Pura vida!

Our house is the main house where you were staying. The back side of the caretakers little house is viewable from the deck if you look down - since it sits at an elevation well below the house - and can only see his private space if you are walking down the drive way. Properties on either side of our 2 acres are blocked by a fence with bamboo and other landscaping to ensure privacy. Your visit was in the high season and our house is competitively priced based on comps within our area, While you weren't satisfied with our house, I hope you enjoyed having Ana Maria take care of the house and your laundry during your visit - and that you found Costa Rica a wonderful place to visit.

Wonderful views!
We stayed five days at this spot and thoroughly enjoyed the location and home. The view of the ocean, the secure and beautiful gated grounds, the polite and friendly groundskeeper and housekeeper and the quick response from the property management (once when the water stopped and again when the coffee pot needed replacing). I would definitely seat there again and highly recommend it! The pool was nice to cool off in the afternoons and the sweet little dog named Tia that would come visit made the visit even more special!🐶❤️

Pacific coast review
Excellent location, environment, friendly resposive staff and good communication. We arrived late at night and had difficulty locating the house. The property manager got out of his bed to guide us to the house. The person living on the grounds came immediately to help us unload. The daily maid service with laundry was a bonus. The immediate response to the ice machine being broken was the delivery of 3 bags of ice. This was after i said it wasn't necessary because i had already purchased ice.

Absolutely wonderful stay and phenomenal host
The communication with Mindy went above and beyond as we prepared for our stay. It felt like I was being set up for a stay in a good friend’s incredible vacation home. The home itself was truly wonderful, with great space, a well set up home and kitchen, delicious towels in the bathroom and pool towels for our use. Ernesto and Ana Maria were wonderful and quickly helped with a couple small issues with the gate that arose. The location couldn’t be better and we loved walking to Playa Prieta and Penca daily. The view from the porch is dreamy. Walkable to Portrero (we did the first week without a car). Loved our stay and after 2 weeks, we weren’t ready to leave.

Perfect home base for Costa Rican adventure!
The view from this home is priceless, and you can enjoy the foliage and vegetation (along with hummingbirds and butterflies and birds) all around you in whatever room you are in. This home feels like home with great linens, thick bath towels and fully equipped kitchen. The location is perfect for Flamingo Beach, Playa Dantita, Playa Real, Playa Grande, and the list goes on. The owners provided great tips and recommendations for restaurants and activities. All their suggestions were spot on! We took a snorkeling catamaran trip, went ziplining just 15 min from the house and spent a day at the most amazing waterfalls! If you want to see the real Costa Rica, Potrero and this home are the perfect fit. Wish we were still there breathing in the ocean breeze from that amazing porch!

Property was lovely and well-managed. Comfortable beds and space, owner and caretaker/house-keeper friendly, helpful, and responsive to questions and needs. Do expect to encounter the expected Costa Rican things - ants if you leave food sitting out, a spider or two by the pool, etc. - which is totally normal and tells you you're in a real home. This property feels like a well-maintained home where you're a guest, not like a rental set up with cheap beds and cookware. The town is charming and the walkable beaches were beautiful and not crowded at all. Would definitely stay again. The whole family loved this property and our time there.

Great Getaway
We communicated weekly with Mindy and if we had any concerns or questions, she addressed them immediately We never did meet the property manager but Anna and Ernesto were the best and took care of all our needs. They were Amazing!! The home has amazing views and we relaxed many days and evenings on the deck. We used the pool daily as it was a nice way to cool off after a long day. The dogs were a treat and we saw them daily also. I want to thank Mic and Mindy again for all the recommendations to restaurants, tours, etc. You can ask them anything and get a great response. Gorgeous house, amazing setting!
From the moment we got out of the car and met Ernesto we immediately felt welcome and at home! The house and deck were amazing, the master shower overlooking the Pacific Ocean was just incredible. We loved having Rusty the dog over just about every day, the other dogs mostly came around when AnnaMaria was there and she was a gem! We watched howler monkeys right from the deck 4 of the mornings - such a treat!!! The house is within 5 minutes of 3 pretty beaches and many more within 20 minutes. We did have some ants and spiders and lizards in the house but that just added to the tropical feel. Did I mention the sunsets? Wow each more incredible than the last. Mindy and Jorge, were so helpful and wonderful! Overall an amazing stay and one of our favorite properties we’ve ever stayed in. We hope to cone back sone day!

Amazing! What a view and location!
Such a wonderful property! Gorgeous views and gardens. Easy 10 min walk to two beautiful beaches and easy walk to town too. The house was very comfortable and the deck was big with lots of seating options. It was great to have the caretaker and housekeeper on site. they were so friendly. We really enjoyed the dogs as well! The pool and gazebo were also fabulous and used a lot as well. We would definitely come back! Thank you for sharing your home with us !

What a beautiful home on a steep hill
My family of 4 adults stayed at this house. It was very pretty and clean and had everything we needed. The bedrooms were large and each had a really nice bathroom (especially the master bedroom - you will not want to get out of shower - wow). One note, the 3rd bedroom is down an outdoor stairway and separate from the rest of the house and while it is nice, it is a bit darker than the rest of the house. My son slept there and found it fine. The washer/dryer is down there also. The grounds were very well maintained and covered in flowering plants. The pool was very small and not really useful but a nice place to hang out with lounge chairs. There is a gazebo with a grill by the pool. The kitchen and living room are large with really nice kitchen equipment and comfortable couches. There were tons of books and games which we enjoyed. A couple of things happened - one night there was a torrential rain and lightning which caused an electrical breaker on the water pump to blow. It knocked out water into the house. We had to be up early for a snorkeling trip and got up at 5:30am only to discover no water. I called Jorge to let him know (at that horrible hour) and not only did he have the guy who lives on the property, Ernesto, up to the house in about 10 minutes, Jorge came too and they knew which breaker to flip and how to get the water going again within minutes. Basically by 6:15 we had water flowing again. SUPER RESPONSIVE. Potential negatives about the house: Note that the house is built into a hillside and the driveway is STEEP and the first time I drove in I didn't think the rental car could make that hill. Also, everything is stairs - from the carport to the house to the pool. If you want to go anywhere (beach, town) by foot, there are tons of steep hills. If you have mobility issues, I don't recommend this house. Also the access street was full of massive potholes and difficult to drive to get to the house. Some potholes reached nearly across the road. Also, the house had a lot of ants at night. It did drive me a bit nuts but I didn't tell the owner because I would rather a few bugs than insecticide. It is a tropical environment so I figured some bugs were part of the deal. Also, we love dogs and the house comes with 3 lovies that hung out with us. If you don't like dogs, I would not recommend the house. They didn't come in the house but hung with us on the wonderful porch (I think we lived on that porch).

We just bounced in those potholes last week -- October is the rainiest month here, and as a result, the potholes are terrible acxross the entire country.- with maintenance crews starting in Nov fixing the primary roads first, and the secondary ones after that.. Our dogs love humans, and we thank you for giving them affection! They have finely honed expert "radar" for human dog lovers-- and folks who don''t engage with them, only rarely see them.. Mic and Mindy’s home is lovely. It is situated overlooking a stunning view. Our early mornings were spent spotting different birds in and around the property with our afternoons exploring the surrounding beaches and coves. We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and was very comfortable. The location was great too. We had a small issue with the water pump on arrival but the host responded right away and the issue was resolved quickly. The host was very easy to communicate with and was always kind. The views from this house were amazing. We really enjoyed them while drinking our cup of coffee in the morning. Highly recommended.

What a great visit!
This was our first time in Costa Rica, and we have to say we had a great time. One thing that made this trip so great was our accommodations. This home was super comfortable, and the views were superb. We loved the attentiveness of the caretakers of the house. We also truly enjoyed the greeting committee. The dogs on the property were super sweet and Rusty was always there to greet us upon our arrivals and departures, I am sure the treat motivation had nothing to do with this behavior. Highly recommend this home!

Serene home with a gorgeous vista!

GREAT Spot — Exceeded Hopes & WAY Better Than Pricier Hotels
The descriptions were spot-on; wonderful well-appointed house…short walk to two beaches (both with requisite howler monkey’s, iguanas, good swimming and NO crowds). The house benefited be great daily cleaning, friendly grounds help (who assisted us in finding driver when needed) and dogs who kept us company.

Awesome Jungle Paradise Close to the Beach
Way better than even described. Beautiful and private location on a hillside with amazing sunset views of the Pacific. Full kitchen with all of the amenities. You can pick up some mangoes and papaya in town and whip up a smoothie whenever you want. A few ants here and there, but hey, you are in the Jungle, whaddaya expect, right?! Comfortable beds, well appointed family room with streaming TV and WiFi. Very close to small town with some of the best food ever (try Sol y Mar for lunch and dinner and Carpe Diem for breakfast and lunch). Five friendly doggos on the property that come for visits and belly rubs. Easy walk or drive down to Playa Prieta beach which is a quiet black volcanic sand beach. Saw howler monkeys eating mangoes out of the trees by the beach, tons of hummingbirds and parakeets too. I wish I was still there right now!

Beautiful villa with amazing views
Loved the sunsets and spent most of our time outside. The master bedroom is stunning and the others are a good size with small but more than adequate en-suites. We were allowed to check out a bit later which made our last day before flying so much more pleasant. If you are thinking of getting a car book before you get there as we couldn’t even get a golf cart. The walk up the hill to the villa is very steep and a killer in the heat!! Loved our stay in Costa Rica and hope to come back one day. Pura Vida

We stayed for 4 nights and could have stayed for 40! The property is perfection. So much space. Breathtaking property and views. Ernesto and Ana Maria are gems and communication with Mic & Mindy is easy and return is prompt. We hope to return and plan to send our family and friends if they make the trek!

Perfect stay
We had a great time in this house. Location is perfect. The views, the pool, the privacy. We really liked the ice maker in the fridge. ;-) The dogs that live on the property are sweet. If you don’t like dogs, don’t rent. We enjoyed their company. All in all we can highly recommend this property.

Amazing location!
We loved our stay here in Potrero! The views were outstanding from the 2 bedrooms and the wrap around deck. It is a really beautiful area and close to the Liberia airport. There are a few low key and delicious restaurants at the bottom of the hill about a 10 minute walk. You will need to rent a car to get around but it is well worth it to see the countryside of Costa Rica. The outdoor pool was very nice to cool down during the hot afternoons and it’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach. Getting back up the hill can be tough in the heat so you may want to drive. The birds and wildlife are bountiful all over, such a picturesque view every morning. You can hear the ocean waves from the house, so relaxing hearing that everyday. If you want a beautiful house away from resorts but the ocean nearby then this is your place. The owners and property caretakers are so helpful, they really try and make your vacation a very memorable time. We hope to come back, we really had quite the adventure, Pura Vida ❤️

Truly a Buena Vista!
We had the loveliest stay at this house. The view is absolutely incredible, even from the shower! The wraparound deck was the perfect place to sit and listen to the crashing waves below while listening to the birds, early in the morning or late in the evening. The pool is small but is nestled in a gorgeous garden and entertained my kids for hours nonetheless on the days we weren’t at the beach all day. The on-site managers were thoughtful, friendly and always helping out, just as the other reviews stated. We appreciated having them or the offsite manager to turn to whenever something came up. The kitchen is stocked with most of what you would need, and the living room has some games, books and DVDs (though a bit dated). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and were sad to leave so soon. I will say there are a few minor annoyances that could be attended to, like a broken toaster, blinds that don’t stay up, holes in some screens, doors that don’t open all the way or slam shut on a spring, or super low water pressure in the kitchen, etc. And not having A/C in the main room or kitchen would be a deal breaker in the future, for us anyway, as it was just way too hot to be comfortable in those rooms, but we were there in April, the hottest month of the year. But all in all, highly recommend this place for your next stay in Guanacaste! Thanks, Mic!!

So glad you had a wonderful time ... oh how we wished you had let us know about these annoyances as we could have addressed many of them immediately! Unfortunately as a third world country, the water pressure and air conditioning are not up to US standards - which is why we have so many ceiling fans -- and you are right, April is the hottest month of the year. Nonetheless, glad you found the beauty and respite from the hustle and bustle of the world. I swear my shoulders go down the moment we land in Costa Rica!

Great ocean views in modern home
Very happy with our 11 night stay. Amazing views from a hilltop house over an ocean bay. Beach is 5 min walk away. Property is gated and super safe. Cleaning lady comes daily and washes all dishes and laundry. Lots of space inside and outside. Highly recommend.

Beautiful panoramic sunsets and private pool
Beautiful property and view of the ocean at sunset and outstanding landscaping. You are on top of a hill looking out on ocean while sitting on private covered patios. Loved the private pool. Beds were comfy. The dogs on site were adorable. Staff on site took good care of us during the week. Felt safe and perfect place for family time. Ocean was beautiful. Want to go back. Owner and manager were helpful and kind to us. Amazing place to get away from the world. Recommend renting a car. Lots of places to explore. Wonderful local food places. Watch out for jellyfish in the spring. Bring Vaseline to apply before going in ocean. Vinegar in case you get stung.

Wonderful Property, Great Location
Six of us spent a week at Villa Buena Vista and wish we were there longer. Wonderful location just a short hop to the beach or town, yet secluded enough in its own slice of paradise. Sunset views from the patio were incredible! We appreciated having Anna Maria helping to keep things tidy each day and washing laundry. The house had all the comforts of home. Would go back tomorrow if I could.

Beware of dogs
There is a pack of 5 "rescue" dogs that have the run of the property. One of them bit me on the ankle that is still healing. There is no AC in the main living area, only in the bedrooms. The AC in the master bedroom has a hard time keeping up in the afternoon. A good option is the jump in the pool (unless you have an open wound from a dog bite). Ernesto keeps the grounds beautiful and Maria keeps the house spotless (plus does your laundry!!!)

Again, we are so sorry about the incident with one of our dogs. As discussed, this is unacceptable behavior and Mama Tia will start training around how to appropriately greet strangers walking onto the property and how to react when strangers are too near to her puppy to mitigate this from happening in the future. For others reading this review, our young dog nipped this guest’s ankle. It appears her mouth grazed across the skin, rather than leaving teeth marks and puncturing the skin. The guest declined medical attention, and all enjoyed a dinner from us at a local restaurant with our sincerest apologies. As you can see from many other reviews, our dogs are well behaved and beloved by the guests who are visiting their home. A vet is on call and visits every month to ensure they are in good health.

Great location & sunset views
Enjoyed our stay at this well suited home. Location was great and not far from a variety of restaurants and beaches. Loved the pool area and the sunset views were amazing! House was well stocked with beach towels and having daily housekeeping service and laundry was a bonus! We had a bit of a glitch on arrival not really knowing what to do, but luckily the owner sent us very detailed driving directions, and once we arrived, we were able to reach the local property manager by cell phone who met us at the gate and let us in. I would make sure that you have cell service on arrival in Costa Rica to reach him, especially since in our case we were arriving late at night. We enjoyed the local beaches, but Flamingo beach most of all since you could rent beach chairs and tents there for the day. The beach next to the house (Prieta?) also had tent/chair rentals, but it seemed to only be on the weekends, or later in the day than when we were there. Also very much enjoyed the sunset cruise on the Lazy Lizard.

The sunset view from the porch are amazing. The bedrooms have great AC and views. Ana Marie cleans up after you and does your laundry! Ernesto keeps the grounds manicured like a 5 star resort. The dogs are friendly and sweet.

Amazing property with stunning views in a quiet small town.
Our recent stay at Villa Buena can only be described as amazing. Before our arrival Mic the owner corresponded both by phone and email to provide restaurant choices and local sights to visit. He continued this excellent service 2 days into our stay to ensure all was well. The house and location are fantastic. The house is fully equipped with everything you need, the pool is set up in such a way you can spend all day there without having to worry about too much sun. The location on the edge of the small town of Potreo is ideal, you can walk to the number of small restaurants, small local beaches and the larger towns of Flamingo and Tamarindo are a short drive away. The best thing about the house is the amazing views, every night we had a fantastic sunsets which will be hard to beat. The house also offers a maid and a gardener at no cost to clean and maintain the house and yard. The Maid, Ann Marie also does a daily laundry service which is great. Everything about this house and the location is amazing. It is that good that we have already secured another weeks vacation during 2020.

So much to love!!!
Portrero is a small town that allows you to be close to some restaurants and shops but not surrounded by tourists. The home is on a hill allowing for a fabulous view. Having Ernesto the caretaker on the property really gave us a sense of security. There wasn't the feeling of having to keep all of our belongings put away and locked up as we had at other rentals. The house is gated and Ernesto and the dogs are there. The dogs are a neat touch, such characters. Rusty was our favorite! In addition, there is Ana Marie who tends to the house. We arrived to the villa after 5 days in Costa Rica. I handed Ana Marie a huge laundry bag of dirty clothes and she didn't flinch. She washed and folded all laundry, did dishes, and cleaned up after us daily. So nice, making it feel like a true vacation. The beach was 5 mins walk. We often went to Prieta. It has beautiful water and some great waves during high tide for boogie boarding. We saw howler monkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds, and toucan. In fact those howlers woke us up some mornings. The house has everything you need and want at a great price. I would recommend doing the lazy lizard boat ride in Flamingo, so fun!! The owner and agent were very responsive and helpful. The house has a great layout and is beautifully decorated. This house is a gem for so many reasons!
