Value for money
Bed was comfortable but floor in room was exceptionally creaking every step so got woken up early as husband is early riser. Staff were very good and best of all was the breakfast which was cooked to order and very tasty.

Good Market Positioning & Priced Right
Our stay at the Imperial Stroud was far better than our expectations and in my experience towards the upper end of its three star rating probably only knocked back because the buildimg had character in real estate speak, but its the Cotswolds so enjoy. The staff where great, friendly and helpful whilst the Down Town location with Free Parking was superb for getting about by public or private transport.

It was okay
The hotel was very hot, despite the heatwave being over, and although a fan was provided in the room it was still really stuffy. The room was nice, a bit tired looking but it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast wasn't particularly nice, especially the sausages, which were dry and unappetising. The juice was overpoweringly sweet, I wondered if it was long life as I've not had juice that tasted like that before. Overall, it was okay for our one night stay but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

This hotel is well placed for Stroud station but, unfortunately, attracts a nightly crowd of noisy yobbos outside as it also doubles as a pub. The welcome I received upon arrival can best be described as frigid with the first request being my credit card details against any damage I might do to my room. This is the first time in over 50 years of staying in hotels all over the world that I have been considered the kind of person who trashes their room. The bedroom and bathroom were perfectly serviceable although I would describe the furniture in the bedroom as being of the orange box variety. The bed was too short for a tall person.

Card details on paper or no access to room
I booked online, paid for two nights. When checking in, the hotel demanded I wrote my full credit card details on paper. This seemed risky to me and I refused. The hotel refused to check me in. This condition of stay was not communicated to me at any point prior to checking in nor is it mentioned on hotel's website. Just to reiterate, I paid for my full stay in advance, when booking.

Dear Mr Stuart, Thank you for taking the time to review us on expedia. The hotel may get a bit warm during the hottest days of the year. We provide fans for all rooms and portable air conditioning in a few rooms. Regarding the noise, unfortunately this is a 2 grade listed property and we can't change our windows. Stroud is generally a very quiet town but some noisy could be expected on weekends because we are located in the town centre.

Clean, comfortable and convenient. Only there for one night so didn't explore local area really. Hotel is right next to train station and a taxi rank so good for getting around.

COULD DO BETTER
YOU WILL SEE FROM THE ABOVE THAT I HAD VERY MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT MY VISIT. THE VERY GOOD ASPECTS WERE UNFORTUNATELY SPOILED BY THE PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCED WITH GAINING ACCESS TO MY ROOM ON ARRIVAL. THE KEY ALLOCATED WOULD NOT WORK DUE I THINK TO THE QUALITY OF THE METAL WHICH HAD BECOME TWISTED FROM PREVIOUS USE. THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM IF THERE HAD BEEN ANYONE ON RECEPTION IN THE EVENING TO DEAL WITH THE MATTER BUT THERE WAS NO ONE READILY AVAILABLE UNTIL A FELLOW GUEST CAME TO MY ASSISTANCE AND CALLED TO AN OUTSIDE NUMBER. IT IS REASONABLE IN AN HOTEL OF THIS STANDARD TO EXPECT BETTER SERVICE FOR ARRIVING GUESTS AT WHAT WAS STILL THE CIVILISED TIME OF ABOUT 11PM.

Tired and in need of renovation
Good size room and very convenient for the town centre and railway station with some parking spaces are the positives. You might also say that you don't need an alarm call as the first train will wake you at 5:30 plus there is plenty of fresh air through the old draughty sash windows. The heating is poor and you will need the additional fan heater. The furniture is charity shop standard and the bed not the most comfortable. The staff were all friendly but the bar and restaurant area pretty cold and not a place to hang about in. You pay for what you get and if price is most important head to a Premier Inn.

OK Hotel in good location in Stroud centre
Location was excellent , next to both the rail station and the shopping centre of Stroud. When we had got to the car park it was fine, but to it in on arriving and out on departing was being blocked by cars that had booked outside of the bays on the British Rail pay and display car park - although this was obviously no fault of the hotel. Our bedroom was badly lit in Room 111, having only 2 bedsite lamps and nothing else. In addition the porcelain on one of these lamps was cracked, making it unsafe to use the switch, so we had to make do with this when we got back the first night. We did mention this to the gentleman who served breakfast (as he was the only person around) on the Saturday morning and asked if we could have it changed. When we cam back at night nothing had been done, so we mentioned it to the lady in the restaurant / receptionist who did attempt to change the lamp - however the electric sockets were an old fitting and since lamps in all empty rooms were modern it was not possible - eventually she found a large standard lamp which made the lighting a bit better, although not ideal. Breakfasts were nothing much to write home about , although better on the 2nd morning.

The hotel is dated and in need of some serious up grade. Floors make the most horrendous noise every time you move or if anyone else does. Bed poor. facilities poor .

My visit to Stroud
The hotel price was far too overpriced. In the hotel itself, the receptionist was unfriendly at the check in. The hotel has no lifts to the rooms. In the room there is no fridge, to put drinks in, no safe, to put valuables in and no drinking glasses in the bathroom. The TV, in the room, is very small with only a few channels available. The radiators, in the room, were not working properly, so we were given a small fan heater and the room does not have electronic card access. The breakfast was okay but it was not a buffet selection. I have seen much better facilities, at many European hotels at half the price I paid at this hotel. Stroud is a very unwelcoming town, in my opinion, with a lot of nasty unfriendly people in it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Stroud.

Please feel free to e-mail me to know more in detail about the situation you encountered with one ogf our receptionists. Please note that we do not advertise the hotel with lifts or fridge or safe. There are drinking glasses and tea cups in each bedroom. Our breakfast is a full English breakfast plus a Continental breakfast so I have to disagree with your comments. I am sorry to hear your opinion about Stroud. I very much believe that many people would definitely disagree with your comments but I respect your opinion as a Stroud visitor.

Staff very unresponsive to queries through Expedia. Finally had to call and got an answering machine. The hotel itself is a bit worn around the edges. The halls ways are a bit stained and dirty. The room itself was clean, the bathroom spotless. There is no elevator so be prepared to carry your own baggage up the flights of stairs. Overall, not good value for money.

The room we were given was above a function room and the dj decided to start playing music from 4.30 at a very high volume. When asked he informed me the function started at 7.30. So was requested to turn music down until nearer the start time. To our disappointment he didn’t which resulted in us leaving the hotel early and wandering the streets until it was time to meet up with friends.
