Set in the foothills of Central Gippsland, Stringybark Quarters is a light-filled eco-stay overlooking peaceful valley and pond views, perfectly positioned to enjoy all this incredible region has to offer.
Generally adults-only stay (21+ years) due to unfenced dam, but families welcome to contact us prior to booking to discuss suitability.
The unit features two queen bedrooms, a full kitchen, study nook, dining area and generous living room, all oriented to take in the surrounding landscape.
The space:
Days here, in what the locals call the “Middle of Everywhere” in the heart of Central Gippsland, are easy to shape - from lake swims at Glenmaggie and picnics by Cowwarr Weir, to long lunches at country pubs, winery visits, and gentle wandering through nearby townships before returning to the quiet of the valley.
Stringybark Quarters is set within the original Greenstead - a living, evolving sanctuary shaped by regeneration, seasonal rhythms, and a deep respect for the land. This is the home and inspiration behind the Greenstead Life podcast, where ideas of self-reliance, simpler living, and growing more of your own food are drawn directly from this place.
Across the 9-acre property you’ll find rolling paddocks, regeneration plantings, a young food forest, and hundreds of newly planted feijoa trees forming the foundations of a future edible landscape. A peaceful dam attracts birdlife and reflects the changing sky, adding to the calm, open feel of the land.
Friendly alpacas and miniature sheep roam the paddocks at their own gentle pace, contributing to the relaxed rhythm of the sanctuary. Designed to be experienced rather than curated, the property offers space to wander, pause, and reconnect - while still feeling intentional, cared for, and welcoming to guests.
Guest access:
Guests are welcome to enjoy the wider Greenstead during their stay, including regeneration plantings, walking areas, food forests and the peaceful spaces around the dam. The land is expansive and gently evolving, offering plenty of room to wander, pause, and take in the quiet rhythm of the property.
Stringybark Quarters is fully self-contained with a private entrance and dedicated parking, allowing you to arrive and settle in at your own pace. Check-in is simple and contactless via keybox, with clear instructions provided prior to arrival.
There are ceiling fans in both bedrooms, the living area and also in the rear outdoor alfresco / bar overlooking the beautiful valley view.
While the property is home to a small number of thoughtfully positioned eco-stays, the overall atmosphere remains calm and uncrowded.
Stringybark Quarters shares a roof with Wildflower Quarters, with no shared internal spaces, and Banjo’s Cabin is located separately elsewhere on the acreage. Each stay has been designed to maintain privacy, comfort, and ease.
For safety and to protect the land and animals, we ask guests to stick to marked paths and open areas. Swimming is not permitted in the dam.
Other things to note
To help keep the Greenstead safe, peaceful, and enjoyable for everyone, we have a few simple guidelines:
• For safety reasons, please do not bring your own cooktops, burners, BBQs, or cooking appliances, and no fires are permitted anywhere on the property.
• Swimming is not permitted in the dam or pond.
• Please stick to marked paths and open areas, as parts of the land are actively regenerating.
• Be mindful of quiet hours and respect the privacy of other guests staying on the property.
• Direct access to animal paddocks is by invitation and with the host only; guests are welcome to pat and greet the animals over the fence at any time.
Sorry no pets are allowed on site unfortunately.
The property is adults-only (21+ years); Children are not permitted without prior written approval, which requires a signed disclaimer and payment of a small additional bond arranged before booking.
