Schönste Hotel-Anlage auf unserem Costa Rica Trip!
Etwas in die Jahre gekommenes Hotel in einer wunderschönen Gegend mit einer ebensolchen Bucht/Strand! Interessante Tierwelt in und ums Hotel! Bei hoher Hotel-Belegung ist der Speisesaal zu klein was zu unangenehmen Wartezeiten führt! Food Angebot in Breite und Qualität ist gut. Schwierigkeiten bereitet offenbar die Zimmerreiningung: an sich sauber, aber wir mussten jeden Tag um unsere Hand- und Duschtücher ´kämpfen´. Es hat es sich uns nicht erschlossen, wieso diese jeden Tag eingesammelt aber nicht ersetzt wurden. Wir mussten diese jeden Tag neu verlangen! Das Wifi ist nicht auf heutigem Standard, nicht möglich eine Zeitung runter zu laden, musste jeden Tag mit dem Auto nach Coco-Beach in ein Restaurant, dort funktionierte es problemlos! :(

Tolles All - In Hotel
Freundlicher Empfang und restlose Information über die Anlage und das All Inklusive Angebot. In unserem zwei tägigen Aufenthalt haben wir das Schnorchln und Kayak mit Hotel Guide genossen. Dies muss 24 h vorher gebucht werden. Das Buffetangebot ist Qualitativ gut und abwechsulungsreich. Wer die Möglichkeit bekommt muss unbedingt ins Italienische Restaunt essen gehen. Dieses Gurmet Restaurant muss ebenfalls reserviert werden. Weiter wer es mag kann sich an der Poolbar sich mit leckeren Cocktails verwöhnen lassen. Pool und Beach sehr sauber für jeden etwas.

Traumhafte Hotelanlage
Wunderschönes Hotel in alleiniger Lage. Traumhafte Gartenanlage in einem sehr gepflegten Zustand. Den ganzen Tag sieht man das Personal bei der Pflege und Reinigung. Das Essen, sowohl als Büffet und in den Restaurants war stets Abwechslungsreich und sehr lecker. Der Strand ist ok aber besser mit Badeschuhen. Man muss hier auf Seeigel achten. Wir hatten für unseren Aufenthalt einen Leihwagen was auch sehr zu empfehlen ist. Es gibt so schöne Strände zu erkunden und auch das Land selbst ist zu schön als nur an einem Ort zu bleiben. Das Personal ist sehr, sehr freundlich und stets Hilfsbereit. Es war ein wunderschöner Urlaub bei Freunden... Vielen Dank für die unvergesslichen Tage.

If you've a drinking problem this is the place 2b
Barcelo ruint our vacation experience in Costa Rica! Be careful on stuff member (his name is roberto) takes with his private cell pictures if you credit card (both sides). I waa quiet schocked to see he did it and he would not delete the pictures though i asked him to do immediately. Service is really bad. The pool area is dirty. I regret that i havent read the commants about barcelo hotels before we booked, because food at the buffet is always the same and dried cooked. They will try not to book you every night on a table of the a la card restaurants, because it costs them more. None of the hotels deserves the stars they have... Hey: this was my vacation! What a got from barcelo is a resentment instead of an nice time!

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your comments. I believe there exists a grave misunderstanding regarding the use of your credit card. As you know, Roberto, our Guest Service Manager, was helping you to source a dive company that spoke German so you could arrange diving excursions. The Diving Company needed a copy of the card to guarantee the reservation. His cell phone is for company use also. We have a reservations policy in place so that ALL of our guests have an opportunity to this dining experience. We endeavor to offer a varied selection to suit all tastes in our buffets and are always open to feedback while you are here in the hotel in order to give you the best service possible. We regret were not aware of your displeasure during your stay so we could have taken immediate measures to improve your experience with us. Das Hotel ist schön gelegen aber etwas weitläufig mit vielen Treppen und daher nicht geeignet für Leute die nicht gut zu Fuss sind! Das Essen war für ein All-inclusive Resort erstaunlich gut und die Angestellten sehr nett! Gerne jederzeit wieder!

We went to Occidental Papagayo all inclusive for 9 days 8 night honeymoon. It was absolutely beautiful, clean, fine dining. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Excursions were amazing. Larry and JJ are very good at their jobs. The guides and drivers went out of their way to make the experience great!!! Loved it!!!

ago on Google Many people were complaining about the stairs, which I don’t get … the very first photo is all the stairs. Everything was a good walking distance but the paths were clean and well maintained. Theilor at the swim up bar was an amazing server. He knew what everyone drank and was on top of it. I do wish there was wait staff around the pools so you didn’t have to get up or go into the snack shack for a drink. We also really liked the service Byron and Alejandro provided at the premium bar. Your drinks were great and they were very friendly. Larry was amazing to book excursions with and was knowledgeable and helped pick the perfect tours of what we did and did not want to do. Two things I didn’t like was waiting every night for the buffet. I think they should have enough seating to accommodate the small resort. Waiting 45 minutes in line for a buffet is not what I find relaxing on vacation. The food was adequate but nothing to write home about. The cleaning staff were amazing but I found their timing very inconsistent. Sometimes your rooms done at 10 am other times done at 530-6 pm as your trying to get ready for dinner. It was inconvenient to leave your room half way through getting ready. But with that they did do an amazing job cleaning.

Resort is moderate, very quiet, food was ok, the buffet was same most days, the a la carte restaurants were better then other 5star resorts I stayed in. A lot of trees and even monkey in the mango trees, beach was small.

We enjoyed the option of the two pools, the larger one was more laid back for relaxing and the smaller one had the bar and more for socializing. Lots of stairs but there were shuttle busses you could take around the property. Beautiful view and private deck was awesome!

This was our first time in Costa Rica and this resort was a great place to stay. The views are breathtaking and the resort was very well kept. Staff were friendly and helpful and the resort is less than a half hour from Liberia airport. The only thing I will say is that there wasn’t much entertainment at the resort like I’ve experienced in other all inclusive a such as activities, shows, etc. however if you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and clean place to stay for a reasonable price this is it!

We had a fantastic holiday at Occidental Papagayo. The hotel is very big and lots of stairs/slopes but they have shuttle buses that will drop you where you want to be. The staff were lovely and the grounds were very well looked after. Our room was exactly what we expected and we were more than happy with it. The air con worked really well, but our only issue was the shower was cold. But to be fair after a day in the hot sun it was sometimes quite refreshing! The food was good and the bars were good. Overall we loved it there and would stay here again.

Good food and service. Place was clean. The only complain is our minibar wasn't filled for 2 days. Beside staff was friendly smilling. I would go back in a heartbeat. Loved it!

Our main complaint was the food. We could only eat at the "ala carte" restaurants 2 times during our stay. The service at those restaurants was excellent, the food was Ok. The rest of the time we had to eat meals at the buffet. More often than not the food was served cold. It was also a small buffet which not many good option. We believe that good food is part of a good all inclusive experience which is why we cannot give a good review. We would never stay there again. Which is what says it all.

The property was clean and safe. The room I had needed maintenace with little to no warm water and doors dragging on the floor due to loose hinges. The food at the speciality restraunts was good, but you are only allowed a limited number of visits to these. The buffet was hit and miss for the entries and many times the food was cold. The service was great in all areas of the resort.

Likes- pools were nice, the bartenders at the pool bar were the best! Seeing the wildlife was neat. Dislikes- no snack bar right near pools, with chips, dips, tacos, pizza, etc. that was accessible from 11-5:00. Asked for washcloths, it took 2-3 days to get them. Rooms were dark, they need more light, and very noisy. You can hear everything from the others rooms. Most of the foods at the buffet were cold. Some of the staff were extremely rude. We made the best of it, and had a good time.

It was pretty easy checking in and checking out but the property is very spread out and hilly. The food was very basic and VERY limited. Even paying for "premium" upgrade we got the same rules as a regular room. Also, I have never been to a resort that required you return your towels daily and wrist bands at the check out so you aren't charged. With all of that said most of the staff was kind and willing to help.

Nous avons séjournés 7 jours en février pour notre lune de miel. Les points positifs. propreté en général très bien. Le personnel est bien sympathique. Beaucoup d'espace pour la nature et la marche. Bonne diversité pour la nourriture (The Buffet). Plage superbe. Point négatif. Parasols vraiment trop peu nombreux et certains étaient défectueux. Même avec crème l'indice UV est très élevé alors se protéger du soleil était difficile. Le Restaurant l'occidentale était décevant. Le riz des sushis était tout simplement pas bon. Je vous invite a choisir une différente entrée au menu. Et dernier point le rapport qualité prix est un peu élevé. Malgré tout nous avons aimé ce séjour. La nature est exceptionnel. Je le recommande mais je ne crois pas y retourner en raison du prix assez élevé. Si vous avez trop d'attente vous serez déçu, mais si vous êtes un passionné de nature et de belle température, Vous serez comblé!
