For the very reasoable cost , Hilda's exceeded expectations.Basic rooms were spotless....breakfast came with fruit...kitchen available if required. Hilda and Brian enjoyed people and were amazingly helpful .They researched places for us to go, ordered ubers, gave directions and were lovely to talk to. At 73, I wasn't sure I could do the very low cost thing any more, but I would certainly go back .Extremely handy for coming and going from the San Jose airport .

The staff was great and the place was clean. What I found not pleasing was the toilet seat falling off when I raised it. Other than that, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the WiFi worked fine. The down side was my wake up call at 3:45am for an early flight didn't happen. Fortunately, I had set my phone alarm or I would have missed my flight. That was the difference between an excellent rating and a good rating. I came in from Panama by taking the bus to San Jose. There is an excellent bus to Alajuela for less than 2.00, where the taxi's wanted $40. The reason I say this is because I walked from the Alajuela bus station to Hilda's and walked by it twice. The entrance is very small, and hard to distinguish from the other shops. A good land mark is that it's right across the street from a large hotel called Las Logos, or something like that. Sorry, can't remember the name.

Great last place to stay before we flew home. Bed was comfy, I really needed this. It was also clean. They also woke up at 4am to call an uber for us, that was super nice. Only 10min away from the airport. Also we walked to get dinner as there were food options within walking distance.

great option for travelers on a budget
A great new option in Alajuela. Hilda and her sons do a great job of taking care of clients. The rooms are super basic but the beds are new and comfortable, and everything is very clean and fresh. I left too early for breakfast but they still packed me up something for the road. I had no expectation of that or the transport to the hotel. I very much enjoyed talking with Hilda.

Got What I Paid For
The place was fine. I got what I paid for (it was a very inexpensive 1-night stay). Kind of rough looking neighborhood. Friendly staff, although the woman who runs it seemed a little gruff and kept looking at me like "who the hell is this person"? Granted, I arrived after dark and left before 6:30 a.m. the next day. I'm sure this place is great, but it was just "ok" for me.

We arrived very late and the staff was more than accomodating for our late arrival. We also had to leave at 5am the next morning and the owner had box of fruit for us to have.

Staff is very welcoming. Clean room. Includes shuttle to airport, simple breakfast. Rooms have windows to interior hall, very unique. I liked it. Insta-hot shower heater did not work properly. Fan in room only had high setting and sounded like airplane. Electrical outlets in room are loose. I had difficulty getting my phone charger to stay plugged in. Neighborhood is a pretty sketchy at night.

Very friendly, respectful gand helpful. This was a wonderful B&B to stay at when doing a quick overnighter before catching an early flight. I would stay here again.

Just like visiting your grand mother only with just the right amount of privacy and conversation. You are literally a guest in her home. I made myself right at home and washed my glass, made my bed and behaved just like I do at home. I was very happy with it. I got a map and directions and recommendations for eating. It was confusing so, I purchased take out at the first place I passed and returned to HIlda's and ate it. Very peaceful. Just like visiting family and being welcome.

Hilda and her son Brian are super sweet! Their bed and breakfast is old-school--you live in their house with them, share a bath, and Hilda makes you a lovely breakfast. I got exactly what I wanted/needed and what I paid for, thus I am happy to give them a 5 star review. I will certainly be back when I need to spend the night near the airport and don't want to spend a lot of money.
