Cat Island and the Kiki House were exactly as we had imagined - remote, peaceful and simply beautiful. The house itself was well appointed with all of the amenities we needed, particularly WiFi as work and emails never take holidays! The beds were very comfortable and the porch was perfect for morning yoga, afternoon emails with a view and evening relaxation.
We recommend renting a car but also recommend negotiating the rates in advance. There is a bank on the island should you need extra cash, several grocery stores and a few charming bakeries and eateries. Da Pink Chicken is a waterfront eatery within a short walk of the house and serves home-cooked meals on the weekends.
The wind prohibited us from snorkeling or kayaking as much as we had hoped, but we did visit some calmer beaches on the island. Our only complaint is that we didn't stay a few days longer!
We flew Western Air with a connection in Nassau - our Western Air return flight to Nassau was delayed and we were concerned about missing our connection, but the pilot radioed our connection who informed the ticketing agent. They waited for us and let us make our connection comfortably - yet another example of the wonderful Bahamian hospitality at work!
Overall, if you're looking for a break from the hectic pace of life and to experience some remote island living, Cat Island is the place and the beautiful Kiki House gives the perfect amount of comfort to enjoy it.
