Luxury Art Boutique Hotel in Historic Oaxaca

  • Summary:

There are places you stay, and places that stay with you. Casa Carmen Reforma is the second kind — a boutique property in the heart of Oaxaca's historic center where every space has been shaped by the vision of artist Amador Montes, one of Mexico's most internationally exhibited painters. Four rooms, an interior garden and breakfast included in our outdoor dinning table.

    The Space:

Walking into Casa Carmen Reforma feels like stepping into a world with its own internal logic — one that belongs entirely to Oaxacan artist Amador Montes. His paintings hang in institutions across four continents; his sculptures have been acquired by collectors in Germany, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and beyond. Here, his work is not on display. It is the architecture of the experience itself.

Every corner of the property has been curated with the same precision Montes brings to his canvases — the objects, the materials, the way light falls across a surface. The four rooms range from junior suites to a master suite, each with a king bed, minibar, safe, and smart TV. Common areas include a dining room, a fountain, and a living room that invites you to slow down. Breakfast is served à la carte every morning from 8 to 11.

Each afternoon, a complimentary drink awaits you on the rooftop terrace of our sister house: Casa Carmen Xólotl — one of the quieter pleasures the house offers, and one of the best vantage points in the centro.

    Guest Access:

Check-in is digital and fully arranged before your arrival — your instructions will be ready and waiting. Behind that seamless process is a concierge team that remains available throughout your stay, attentive and discreet. For guests who wish to go deeper into Amador Montes' world, we can arrange a guided visit to his private gallery — an experience we reserve for guests of the house.

    The Neighborhood:

Calle Reforma is one of Oaxaca's downtowns most vivids streets, and Casa Carmen Morelos sits at its heart. The Ex-Convento de Santo Domingo is minutes away on foot; so is the Ethnobotanic Garden, the main market, and the zócalo. This is the Oaxaca worth walking slowly — block by block, mezcal bar to textile workshop to the kind of restaurant with no sign and a line at the door.

    Getting Around:

The historic center is best experienced on foot. Taxis are easy to find for anything farther out, and a rental car puts the valleys, villages, and coast within reach.

    Other Things to Note:

The minibar in each room is stocked with a curated selection at an additional cost. External laundry service is available on request. The artworks and sculptures throughout the property are available for purchase — ask the concierge for details. The artist's books are the one exception: those stay.

For security purposes, all guests must complete a mandatory digital check-in prior to arrival. This includes submitting a valid ID, completing a registration form, and providing a credit/debit card for a security deposit. This secure process is required to validate your reservation and receive check-in instructions. Failure to complete it may result in denied access without refund.

    Interaction with Guests:

Our concierge team is available throughout your stay through digital channels — present without being intrusive, ready to help with a dinner reservation, a gallery visit, or anything the city throws your way.
