A beautifully refurbished country house with pool near Noto and the beaches of southeastern Sicily.

Guests arriving at Donnafucale are greeted by a handsome, pearly white façade, swathes of emerald lawn and relaxing views across the gently rolling countryside. Bright, elegantly furnished interiors flow out into the surrounding gardens, whose dimensions echo the generous proportions of the house itself. A tempting pool completes the picture, making Donnafucale a really attractive proposition for anyone wishing to holiday in Sicily's southeastern corner.

Inside: accommodation at Donnafucale is spread over a main house and a guesthouse. The main house is spread over two floors and features lofty ceilings, generously-sized, light-filled rooms and a harmonious sense of classic elegance throughout.

The front door of the main house takes one into a spacious hallway, off which the living accommodation flows. Turning left, one accesses an elegant formal dining room, which in turn leads to a breakfast room. Both are conveniently served by the stylish, well-equipped kitchen, whose French windows open out onto the al fresco dining area to one side, and the lawned gardens to the other.

Back in the hallway and turning right, one comes to the bright, comfortably furnished living area, whose sofas sit either side of a decorative fireplace.

Straight on through the hallway is a guest bathroom and stairs leading to the first floor, which is home to a central landing with desk and two bedrooms: a double-twin with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room, and a double, also with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom with tub.

The guesthouse is located just a few steps across a courtyard from the main house and comprises three bedrooms, each with its own independent access. There is a twin with walkthrough wardrobe and en-suite shower room and two doubles, one with an en-suite shower room, the other with en-suite bathroom with tub. Like their counterparts in the main house, the guesthouse bedrooms are large, spacious and bright.

Outside: Donnafucale is surrounded on three sides by large expanses of emerald green lawns split over two levels, each of which is delimited and crisscrossed by creamy drystone walls.

On the upper level of the garden is a panoramic pool overlooking the gently undulating countryside, while a swing provides more fun opportunities for younger children.

A large flagged courtyard stands between main house and the guesthouse, while to the garden side of the main house, accessed from the kitchen and the hallway, is a well-furnished, shaded al fresco dining and lounge area; the perfect spot for lingering over long convivial lunches and dinners.

You may wish to know that the pool has a single depth of 1.5m.
Donnafucale sits in the gentle countryside south of the baroque UNESCO World Heritage town of Noto and just few kilometres west of the unspoilt beauty and beaches of Vendicari Nature Reserve in the southeast of Sicily.

The coastline around Italy's southeasternmost point is flanked by mile upon mile of sandy beaches, many of which are a short drive from Donnafucale. Also close by are the other gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage towns of Modica, Ragusa and Scicli.

Slightly further afield, but highly recommended, is Syracuse, once the mightiest city in Magna Graecia. Its archaeological site and island centre, Ortigia, are fascinating.

Last but not least, If hiking in the hills is your thing, then there is some spectacular scenery to explore in the rushing streams and waterfalls of the Cassibile gorge and the Paleolithic burial sites in the dramatic valley of Pantalica.
