The Old Church, stunning historic venue designed for memorable time together

The main living area features a stained-glass window, log-burning stove, cosy reading snug and table tennis on the mezzanine.

Bespoke wooden dining tables, an original church pew and piano offer a flexible space for shared meals and celebrations. With the large kitchen suited to self-catering for large groups.

Each of the 5 bedrooms feature super comfortable beds and bespoke furniture, giving groups flexibility across the ground and first floors.

The Old Church was built in 1877 by Sir Peter Coats in memory of his beloved wife, Gloriana Mackenzie. Originally known as the Lady Coats Memorial Church, it was erected on land donated by William Paterson of the nearby Monkwood Estate.

After qualifying as a carpenter and establishing his first company in 1995, Adam spent several years working in the construction department of Queensland’s Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. When we purchased The Old Church in 2001, he was not entirely sure what its next chapter would be. The journey began from there. Over the following two years, Adam balanced his day job with the careful conversion of The Old Church into a restaurant. In early 2016 Adam embarked on first the design and then the conversion of The Old Church from restaurant to what you see today. The Old Church opened as a private, exclusive-use venue in September 2017. Since then, we have welcomed more than 3,000 guests through its doors. Adam designed and built Carrick Lodge in 2019 and added Kyle Lodge in 2020. Each has its own individual character and sleeps 2 guests.
