We loved Il Casale. The room was gorgeous , a glowing cave room that felt lux, and the service was top notch. We were treated to a helpful survey of the town to help us the get the most from our time there; restaurant tips (no tourist traps); and a delicious breakfast from a nearby bakery. Even more helpful, we were able to park our car at a secure residential lot outside the city and get a private ride to/from the old town. Highly recommend.

Wow - A hidden gem nestled amongst the Sassi of Matera. We had a wonderful stay, which could not be faulted. Excellent location, beautiful and immaculately clean rooms and wonderful staff who took excellent care of us. They could not have been more helpful and accommodating. 10/10. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the city.

It’s a very nice cave hotel that is very conveniently located to explore the old Matera on foot. It is safe and quiet at night. There is also a very good restaurant right outside the door Dominica was absolutely wonderful. She came to meet me all the way at the airport, even though my flight was delayed and I didn’t arrive until the evening. She also gave me a detailed information on what to see in the town, the most important landmarks, where to go for nice views, where to go out to eat, etc. She essentially provided me with the whole itinerary for my 3 day stay on Matera, which was incredibly helpful. Throughout my stay, Domenica was very helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this unique hotel.

Matera is a must-see! I would go to south Italy just for this city. And when you’re in Matera, you HAVE to experience living in a cave. That’s why this city is the second oldest city in the world. And if you want to live in a cave, you want to live in Casale di Maria. Because Domenica works there. She is fantastic. Helped us find parking through WhatsApp on our way there, gave us a full itinerary for our sightseeing of the city, as well as recommendations to good places to eat.

If you’re looking for a truly unique and memorable experience. I highly recommend staying at Casale di Maria in Matera. Domenica goes above and beyond with her attentive and welcoming service. She offers great tips on getting around town, where to go, and the best restaurants to try. It was an unforgettable stay - unlike any other hotel I’ve visited.

Excelente hotel e atendimento

Amazing find in Matera

I stayed on short notice at Casale di Maria and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The room was very charming and unique - in one of the historic sassi (cave hewn into the rocks) but with all the modern amenities you could wish for. I had parked a long way away but Walter, the owner, gave me a ride to my car and guided me to a parking spot near the house where I could park without getting a ticket till the next morning. Domenica, who manages the property day-to-day, stayed in online contact to make sure there were no language difficulties. She also was very helpful with tips and restaurant recommendations. The next morning I could get breakfast in a little cafe across the road. All in all a perfect stay in the heart of the historic sassi district.

Eccellente

Ci siamo trovati benissimo.
