Ganz besonderer Ort inmitten des Sasso Caveiso- mit exzellentem Geschmack und schlichtem Design eingerichtet Umwerfend! Wunderbares Frühstück mit brsten lokalen Peodukten. Tolles Team, sehr kundig und hilfsbereit. Und Matera ist mehrere Reisen wert, gibt viel zu sehen und zu entdecken!

Das aufmerksame und hilfreiche Personal ist auf alle unsere Wünsche eingegangen, das Parken des Autos am Rande des Höhlendorfes hat klaglos funktioniert, ein Hotellotse hat uns beigestanden, die Informationen zur Geschichte Materas waren umfassend und lehrreich. Unser Höhlenzimmer war ein Erlebnis für sich, riesig, zweigeschossig, modernst eingerichtet. Sehr zu empfehlen! Es beginnt schon an der Reception....

Außergewöhnliches Hotel in außergewöhnlicher Lage
Das Hotel befindet sich in historischen, Felsenhäusern mitten in den Sassi von Materna. Die Räume sind entsprechend ungewöhnlich geformt mit original Felswänden. Das Zimmer war sehr groß und in schickem modernem Design möbliert, die Wände originell beleuchtet. Alles super sauber. Trotz einer ständig laufenden automatischen Entfeuchtungsanlage gibt es offenbar massive Probleme mit der Feuchtigkeit, was sich an Wasserflecken an den Wänden und nachts von der Decke gefallenen Putzstückchen zeigte. Vor den Zimmern stehen Stühle auf der "Terrasse", auf dieser laufen allerdings die zahlreichen Besucher der Sassi unmittelbar am Zimmer vorbei. In ähnlicher Weise ist der Frühstücksraum ausgestaltet. Das Frühstücksbuffet war sorgfältig und liebevoll angerichtet, für italienische Verhältnisse viel Auswahl auch an Wurst/Schinken und Käse, dazu viel Kuchen und Obst, alles sauber und frisch. Das Hotel kann nicht mit dem Auto angefahren werden! Nach der Buchung erhielten wir eine E-Mail, in welcher zwei Parkplätze (kostenlos/Gebühr) samt Googlemaps-Link angeboten wurden, dazu eine Telefonnummer, um den kostenlosen Shuttle zu bestellen. Das hat auch schnell und reibungslos geklappt. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Dem Frühstückspersonal schien jede Bitte (Kaffee) zu viel Mühe zu machen, weniger nett. In der Nähe sind einige Cafés/Imbisse. Die Neustadt (mit mehr Restaurants) ist recht weit entfernt. Insgesamt ein außergewöhnliches Erlebnis. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Sehr gute Lage am Rand der Sassi Caveoso. Toller Blick auf die Schlucht. Es gab sogar die Zufahrt für das Auto und die Parkerlaubnis in der Sassi kostenlos. Ich denke, dass ist nicht selbstverständlich. Die Zimmer sind geräumig und man hat genügend Platz zum abstellen. Wir hatten ein echtes Höhlenzimmer mit einer Glastür und einem Fenster darüber. Das Personal war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Frühstück für italienische Verhältnisse sehr gut.

Ein besonderes Erlebnis ist dieses Hotel mitten in der Sassi. Die Zimmer sind stylisch, aber manche etwas feucht und muffig, Höhle eben ;-) Trotzdem sehr zu empfehlen!

I would give the service at this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could! We arrived at some random bus stop in the bottom of town because their main station is closed for remodeling, so I didn't really know where we were when I called the shuttle. Nino just asked me the name of the street & came to get us. By the next morning, we had fallen in love with the town and changed our itinerary for the rest of the trip to spend more time in Matera, but they didn't have space for us to stay longer. They called around and found us a place at another amazing hotel. When it was time to check out, they had it all arranged to simply simply transfer our bags and pick up new keys at the other hotel. As for the hotel itself, the rooms were huge, clean and very unique. Very cool hotel in an amazing town.

If I could give more than five stars to this hotel, I would. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the location perfect -- beautiful views just outside our door and transportation a short essy walk away. Our room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the simplicity of the furnishings, which complemented the hotel's surroundings. The breakfast bar was delicious! Thanks to everyone at Hotel Basiliani for a beautiful vacation.

Our experience was absolutely perfect. The hotel provided clear and courteous parking instructions, a super fast shuttle (to and from the free parking area), fast check-in and luggage assistance all the way into our room. The room is clean, spacious, modern enough to feel fun and yet it retains the feeling of the Sassi. The town is beautiful and the people are so kind and out-going. Our breakfast was wonderful and fresh each day and they make espresso and cappucino for you as well. We hope to come back to Sassi di Matera and will definitely stay here.

The location of H Basiliani is absolutely stunning, on the side of the gorge, in the middle of Matera's sassi area. There are cave dwellings (some renovated, some not) either side of the hotel buildings, and the breakfast terrace and some of the rooms (including ours) have panoramic views across the gorge at older caves on the other side. Our room was very large (split level, obviously meant for a family rather than just the two of us!), calm and comfortable. My only criticism is that the bathroom was about due for another coat of paint. Because the hotel is in the historic area, you cannot drive to it. You need to leave your car somewhere in the modern part of town (the hotel can advise on a choice of car-parks), and then call the hotel, who send their shuttle to collect you and your luggage. They also offered to shuttle us back to our car if we wanted to go out for the day, but there is enough in Matera (within walking/climbing distance) to keep you busy for a couple of days, so we didn't bother. I have read complaints about people waiting for the shuttle - this is only a small hotel, so there are only one or two vehicles - as long as you know there might be a wait, I don't see this as an issue. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and I can't think of a better location to stay in Matera! If this is your first visit to Matera, bring a satnav or a decent map. The street signs in the modern town are dreadful, and we spent nearly an hour driving round completely lost.

This is a fantastic boutique hotel. The room was so comfortable. It has the most comfortable bed we’ve experienced in Italy. Clean, modern rooms in a gorgeous historical setting. The staff was so kind and helpful. They offer a shuttle service from a parking lot outside of town that made things so much easier. Highly recommend.

Great hotel in the heart of sassi
Fantastic hotel located in what used to be cave houses. Great location in Sassi and amazing view of the gorge. Very much appreciated the directions to free parking at the university and the complimentary hotel shuttle which arrived quickly and made parking easy and stress free. Friendly and helpful staff who provided a map of where to go and all major sights which are within walking distance. Some lovely restaurants also close by. Great mini bar and fridge with good selection of drinks and snacks and inexpensive. Only slight negative would be that the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but despite this is very clean. Would stay again and fully recommend.

Never stayed in a cave before! Enchanting place, right in the best part of Sassi di Matera- good restaurants nearby within a short walk. Staff were really helpful, friendly and approachable; giving us a map and highlighting a trail around the town. The free shuttle came and picked us up from Matera Central station and dropped us at the hotel all within 15 minutes and dropped us off at the end of our stay. Lovely coffee and buffet breakfast. The cave our room was in was huge, modern and had all the facilities you would expect in Italy. A unique stay in Matera- would definitely recommend
