A most relaxing holiday in a comfortable, clean, light and airy ground floor apartment with fabulous views.
We maintained and clean it felt welcoming and thoughtfully set up for us as new arrivals. It has a lovely conservatory where we sat looking out over the river and hills beyond basking in the warm sun. There is one good step up into the house from the main entrance but it is easy to enter via the conservatory where the step is shallow. The good sized garden is private and secure from the road and very child friendly with grass areas big enough for a good game of badminton or volleyball. We wanted for nothing as the house is so well equipped with everything you need for a family holiday from board games, books and TV to tumble dryer and a chest freezer. Garden furniture, seating area and a small BBQ make for easy entertaining and life outdoors.
The house is perfectly situated in the tiny village, a short walk to the river, river beach and lovely sandy main Bantham beach. Part of this beach is sheltered under cliffs with sandy rock pools, just right for small children to paddle. There is great swimming and surfing off the main beach with opportunities at surf school to learn to ride the waves safely, overseen by the lifeguards. We sampled the tasty food and drinks from the Gastrobus, in the beach carpark, making for an easy lunch while beach bound. The river gives an added dimension to staying here and at low tide, as the river drained the estuary, we walked up river from the main quay, with its collection of varied boats, to watched the herons and egrets in the heronry in the riverside woods. A small boat ferry has a timetabled service from the quay which can get you over the river to walk the coast path or, at low tide, along the river beach to Bigbury island.
We made use of the convenient village shop with its a café, where we took breakfast on its terrace overlooking the river. It’s also great for ice creams, emergency supplied and beach gear and only 100 yrds form the house. The Sloop, is a well-established village pub, where we were served good food by friendly staff on the evenings we took a holiday from cooking.
We were refreshed after an easy self-catering retreat with comfortable indoor living and a great outdoors to explore. A holiday destination to revisit with friends and family.
