Talcomb ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Paare oder Familien, die den Lake District erkunden möchten. Das Haus verfügt über 2 Schlafzimmer und bietet Platz für 4. Talcomb ist ein gemütliches Häuschen in ruhiger Lage mit einem schönen Plätschern in der Nähe. Keswick, Cockermouth und Carlisle sind alle innerhalb von 20 Autominuten von Seldom Seen zu erreichen. Keswick ist eine geschäftige Marktstadt, in der sich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten wie das Theater am See, das Bleistiftmuseum, Parks, Galerien und Museen befinden. Es ist der ideale Ort für ein Sommerpicknick am Ufer des Derwentwater oder um die spektakulären Aussichten von den Gipfeln Skiddaw, Latrigg und Helvellyn aus zu genießen. Cockermouth ist eine malerische Stadt, die für ihre Verbindung mit dem Dichter William Wordsworth und das Brauen von Jennings Real Ale bekannt ist. Die Hauptstadt von Cumbria, Carlisle, ist einen Besuch wert. Sie liegt zentral an der Grenze zwischen Schottland und Northumbria und bietet zahlreiche Attraktionen, angefangen von der Hektik des Einkaufens und des Stadtlebens bis hin zum historischen Schloss und der Carlisle Cathedral.

Talcomb ist eines von sechs Häusern, die aus einer um 1740 gebauten wassergetriebenen Sägemühle stammen. Es befindet sich am Fuße der Seldom Seen-Schlucht im ruhigen und treffend benannten Weiler Seldom Seen am Rande des Dorfes Thornthwaite. Talcomb schmiegt sich an den Bach mit Blick auf einen glitzernden Wasserfall mit Blick auf Coomb Beck und den Winlatter Forest. Das Dorf Braithwaite ist nur 1,6 km entfernt, wo Sie eine der ländlichen Kneipen besuchen oder in einem der Hotels oder Bars speisen können. Keswick ist nur 5 km entfernt und bietet zahlreiche Geschäfte, Pubs und Restaurants.

Gute Ausgangslage zur Erkundung der Region
Die Lage ist schön ruhig direkt am Wald. Schon direkt vom Haus aus kann man mit Wandern in die Region einsteigen.Keswick ist in 10 -15 Autominuten gut zu erreichen.Preisleistung für das Haus passt gut.

Weit über Erwarten schön!
Die Lage des Häuschen am Eingang einer wildromatischen Schlucht, durch die man zu großartigen Aussichten gelangen kann, und das Rauschen des Wildbachs hatten wir nicht erwartet. Auch innen war das Häuschen märchenhaft. Lediglich Handtücher hätten wir gerne gehabt, auch eine Kaffekanne, aber das konnte unser sehr positives Gesamterlebnis nicht beeinträchtigen. Eine Familie nebenan versorgte uns mit WI Fi Daten für den Internetzugang. Wir werden jederzeit gerne wieder dort wohnen und begeistert unseren Freunden davon erzählen.

Comfortable cottage, very convenient for most lakes. Downstairs toilet & shower and the double bedroom is indeed very small & a very tight fit! Storage heaters worked fine & electric shower. Good value for price charged and would happily book again.

Everything you need lovely location, shower to high to step into would help If it had a grip handle. Stairs very steep, could do with hand rail at the bottom right hand side. Be better if smaller bed in the double bed room,, a divan would give more room, as it was hard to get into the bed.. should mention in the description.that the stairs are steep, and the shower is high to step into for people with walking difficulties

A nice cottage in a nice Lake District village
My wife and I with our 5 year old son enjoyed 4 nights in Thornthwaite. Q A lovely village close to Braithwaite and Keswick. The cottage had all we needed. Set in a pleasant village with lovely views over the surrounding area.

Excellent two week holiday
This was a lovely property, in a quiet location. It was great exploring the area - even the weather was lovely! A small improvement would be to have a "manual" for the property - cooker and washing machine instructions and perhaps indications on local facilities although we sniffed out the lovely Jaspers Coffee shop in Braithwaite and the Ivy house for our special birthday celebrations. The foot-stool has a wealth of "attractions" leaflets and maps for walks; there was a plentiful supply of board games and jigsaws and DVDs - but we can't believe the weather in the Lake District could ever justify them!!! Great - just what we needed.

pleasant and well sited
provided everything we wanted from our stay with the added bonus of excellent weather and the proximity of Keswick town, walking routes just in front and behind the property though not crowded. Loved sleeping with the open window and falling asleep to the sound of the small stream adjacent. Would definitely recommend and will look to book again, hopefully soon.

Fabulous quiet location
The cottage is cosy and warm, everything we needed. Great being able to walk straight into the woods with our dogs. Great location. The double bed was a bit uncomfortable, maybe a better roper would help, other than that it was a perfect little house. Would definitely stay again.

It's a pleasant cottage to stay at although it is a little tired and is in need of a little TLC. It's warm and clean and all linen and towels provided are of good quality. Suited to a couple or a family of 3. 4 adults would find it slightly cramped. Great location for the northern fells and access to Keswick and Cockermouth.

Base for walking
The property is extremely clean and comfortable and as described. We thoroughly enjoyed and it is an ideal base for walkers. The nearby pub The Royal Oak in Braithwaite serves good food and is within 20 minutes walk. We would not hesitate to recommend.

Great property and amazing location
This house was just right, all you hear is the beautiful brook running by, watching the red squirrels from the bedroom was just magic. There are so many walks and runs you can do direct from the house. The one issue we had at the house was resolved within a few hours by the owners, they were so very helpful. Yes the double bedroom is a bit of a squeeze, but the other bedroom is a good size, with plenty of space downstairs. Easy parking for the one car.

Great compact cottage
Great find, we have booked to come again!! Loved it. We stayed as a party of 4 adults. Everything we needed was provided, well equipped. Bit snug for 4 adults, as bedrooms are small. However it does say this in the information. Stairs are very steep, but this is also listed. Fab location, able to walk the dogs straight into the Forest. No WiFi but we did manage to pay for a hotspot for £8.00 per day. Parking not a problem. I think this will be one of our favourite cottages to return to, such good value. Booked again whilst we were there.

Comfortable, cosy and clean cottage in Lakeland countryside
This cottage is perfectly functional. The decor is definitely tired but if you don't mind things a little rough and ready you'll be fine. The setting is gorgeous and property is conveniently positioned for walks to Braithwaite and Whinlatter Forest, and a short drive or bus ride from Keswick.

In need of some improvement
When we arrived we found the property had not been cleaned. We had to leave the property for this to happen. We were really upset about this considering Covid and the risk of catching it and the distance we had travelled. It would of been nice to have the offer of a complimentary coffee at a cafe while we waited! The description says there is patio furniture. I don’t agree with this, it is a broken park bench in the car park. There is no outdoor/ garden area for this property except the car park. This is not written on the description. The shower was broken and held together with a plaster which wasn’t doing anything, this meant we had to hold the shower head to have a shower. I did ask for this to be fixed but got no reply to my message. The double bed is noisy when you move just a little in it and not very comfortable. The kitchen cupboard had a broken handle and some of the wood was broken. The whole house is tired and in need of some loving care. Apart from the above the property is in a beautiful location and we enjoyed making the most of the area and walks around us.
