The neighborhood--the street and nearby commercial district--are definitely in transition and not ideal for walking. We felt uncomfortable taking our dogs out, even as people who have lived in NYC/Chicago during the 80s :-). While it might feel different to people who are from the area or live on the street, it's a hard place to land for visitors.“
