Clean, dated room but bed very comfortable
Breakfast 9-10 (this should be on booking) no food being done first night and restaurant stopped serving around 7pm second night. Should be advertised on hotel.com this is the case

My stay
I was working nearby and needed a room for the night. Ordinarily, I'd have a bite to eat with a beer, go to my room and have an early night..... not last night! Bob and Caz truly were, the most excellent hosts. I wasn't expecting to be working in the area for more than a couple of days and I was running out of clean socks, tee-shirts and underwear. Caz said "Try B&M bargains across the road, if you do no good there, you can use our washing machine and dryer." As it turns out, I was able to buy the clothes but more importantly, their offer was there. You won't get that sort of hospitality at a Premier Inn! I ended up chatting with them and their regulars and playing darts until quite late. The room was great and to top it all, Caz made me some sandwiches for me to take to work today. Can't believe that there are negative comments on here, I'll certainly be going there again. Thanks to you both, see you soon.

Acceptable
Thé lady owner was friendly, but she was let down by her staff who were generally indifferent. I understand times are hard in hospitality but they won’t improve unless personnel engage better with customers. The basics were there, clean bed and towels but high ledges not dusted for weeks, the room was only big enough for one small chair in a corner, generally the place needs some TLC and the ventilation spread the odour of stale cooking smells rather than removing them. I have family nearby and would stay again because I might need to but it could be a lot better. Thé À board outside describes room as luxurious ours sadly did not meet that standard

Disappointing
Left dirty towels in the bathroom, when we told the staff and asked them to be removed, they said I cleaned that room this morning, don’t understand how that is possible, like we had brought dirty towels with us! When we asked if we could sit anywhere to have a evening meal they asked us if we know what we want as they could squeeze us in as they have a table of 9 coming in! The restaurant was empty! Surprisingly we went elsewhere to eat. Nice location and simple close free parking after 6pm and on weekend. Wouldn’t stay again

The pub and room was very clean and comfortable. The Landlord, Landlady, staff and customers were all very welcoming. There is a pay and display car park to the rear of the property which the pub backs onto. Your first 2hrs are free and its free from 6pm until the following morning. It felt safe and secure. I would higly recommend a stay at The Lord Nelson.

The property was ok for a pub. The reception service was average but the food service let them down. If you’re a fan of terse service (poached eggs was beyond them) and bacon that was just shown the pan with the fat still raw, all lovingly coughed over and served by non mask wearers, then this is gastric heaven. The pub can’t help the drunken teenage cat fights erupting right outside the windows that happen at chucking out time & scared the kids, but they could up their game. Constructive criticism- if they want repeat custom in these difficult times, then would suggest some polish (no spit required) on the service. A real shame -and wish them well- but we won’t be returning.
