  • No.3 & No.4 are first floor apartments. No.4 is on two levels, both bedrooms are upstairs.No.1 & 2 The Old Convent are ground floor apartments. All our apartments have been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard but keeping some of the character and adding modern touches such as central heating, insulation and double glazing!
    The Old Convent is situated in the picturesque village of Fort Augustus on the southern tip of Loch Ness, which is virtually the geographical center of the Highlands. A perfect base for exploring the spectacular scenery and amenities that the area has to offer.
    We, Felicity & Chris are local and live in what was the priests quarters when the building was originally a church and are able to suggest many wonderful day trips combining superb scenic drives and walks, with castles, brochs and ruins that you probably won't find in any guide book.
    Fort Augustus is the perfect place to relax with a short walk to the center of the village where you can find grocery shops, post office, ATM, petrol station and several pubs and restaurants. You can take a boat trip up Loch Ness or simply chill on the canal side watching the boats negotiate the locks!

    The Old Convent was originally built as a church in 1842, then converted into a convent 'St Scholastica's Priory' in 1891, the nun's took residence in 1892 until 1922 when the remaining nun's were moved to Holme Eden Abbey. Some of the nun's are buried in the graveyard at Fort Augustus Abbey, half a mile from the convent on the shores of Loch Ness.

    We are close to a main road with the convent woods to the rear giving you privacy, and a fantastic view of golf course and Ben Tee to the front.

    If you wish to bring your dog please ask first, we accept most small/medium breeds but they are not allowed in the bedroom or on furniture. We have spare dog towels if needed.

    The property is ready for guests arrival from 4pm.
    We ask that guests leave by 10am on day of departure as we need time to clean for next guests.

Perfect accommodation in the Scottish highlands

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay. Felicity and Chris were both so welcoming and friendly. We got great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. The apartment was clean and comfortable and we would definitely stay there again.

What a fantastic self catering apartment. Hosts Felicity and Chris were there to greet us on our arrival and were very helpful with suggestions of things to do. The apartment is exceptionally luxurious and there is everything you need with some really nice touches, like having firefighters, kindling and logs for the log burner. Property is spotlessly clean. Approx 15 minute walk takes you to the canal and views up the loch are stunning. Can’t wait to return to Fort Augustus and to The Old Convent.

Very nice accommodations exactly as appears on the VRBO site...no surprises! We were greeted by both Chris and Felicity who gave us valuable information about not only the property but additional side trips in the area to visit. Highly recommended site...quiet and comfortable!

Fabulous Accommodation

A really lovely apartment with everything you could want for a relaxing stay. Really good sized comfortable bedrooms, a well equiped kitchen and cosy living room. The hosts ( Felicity and Chris) are lovely and really engaging . We would highly recommend this place as it really is one of the best we have stayed in. The location is excellent with some fabulous walks in close proximity.

Fantastic stay at the Old Convent (No 4)! The house was very easy to find. The rooms and facilities were spotless. Chris and Felicity were super sweet and their recommendation were spot on! Communications were easy through the VRBO app. We’d stay here again, but for a longer time, in the future.

Great apartment

This was the perfect apartment to house our family while we visited western Scotland. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed for our 3 day visit. The hosts are friendly and have one of the best welcome information packets I have experienced, with instructions on how to use everything in the apartment, menus for local restaurants, suggested places to visit.

Wonderful base for exploring around Loch Ness

The care that has been put into this property really shows, in both form and function. The hosts are welcoming, warm, and had awesome recommendations of day trips for us to do. We had the most amazing time exploring the loch and we owe a large part of that to the old convent and our hosts. :)

Perfect start to our holiday

For us, the location, charm, and peaceful surroundings were exactly what we were looking for. There were many beautiful hikes within either walking distance or a short car journey. The village offered great food/drink choices for a night out, and the apartment was furnished very well if a night in was chosen. Chris and Felicity were a veritable fount of valuable information and suggestions, and were always available to answer questions. We will definitely return here on future visits!

A fabulous immaculately presented properly situated within easy walking distance of Fort Augustus. The hosts are amazing with great communication throughout the process and a warm friendly welcome on arrival. Overall an amazing base to explore the highlands. What a wonderful property and hosts! The apartment was well-appointed with an amazing kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms. So comfy and so clean! Chris gave us the tour and offered so much pertinent information for getting the most out of the area. And being within walking distance from Loch Ness was a definite amenity. Additionally, the location is within an hour to hour-and-a-half of numerous Highland must-see sites. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return in the future. Highly recommended!

Loved our stay!

Felicity and Chris were amazing hosts. They were very knowledgeable about the area and anywhere that we wanted to travel. They met us at our vehicle upon arrival for introductions, and then gave us a thorough tour of our apartment so that we knew where everything was and how everything worked. The apartment was spotless, which I very much appreciate, and the renovations they have done to it are just perfect. It feels refreshed, but still has the charm that I would expect of an old building. Would definitely recommend staying here!

7 Star Rating in a Special Place

I wish I could give this 2 comfortable place a 7 star rating on the 5 star scale. This converted convent is as centrally located in the marvelous Scottish Highlands as one can be. Mountain scenery, lochs (especially Loch Ness) are easily accessible, as are a serviceable number of amenities. The problem with the Old Convent is that all the nearby attractions make you feel bad that you are not spending enough time enjoying this comfortable and charming lodging. It is lovingly and meticulous restored, homey, and beautifully decorated, a rarity in holiday apartments. The delightful hosts, Chris & Felicity, live on-site.

what a wonderful (old convent)-World!!!

We had a wonderful and warm welcome, helpfull and humorous owner. We loved ist so much, that we definitely come back. The surroundings are fantastic, you can walk right from the old convent, to get incredible views over Loch Ness and the mountains around. The accomodation is fantastic, evrything was there, nothing is missing.. One of the best accomodation in Scotland ever!!!!

Blitzsauber und mit viel Hingabe geführt - besser geht es kaum

Wir hatten einen fantastischen Aufenthalt in Apartment 4. Die Ferienwohnung war blitzsauber bis in die hintersten Ecken und mit allem ausgestattet, was man für einen stressfreien Aufenthalt mit vier Personen benötigt. Wir wurden herzlich von Felicity empfangen und erhielten eine ausführliche Einführung in alles, was wir über die Wohnung wissen mussten. Nebenbei gab es einige Tips für Tagesausflüge, Restaurants/Pubs und Dinge, die man in der näheren Umgebung unternehmen kann. Alle Informationen waren darüber hinaus übersichtlich und ausführlich in einer Mappe zusammengetragen. Obendrein waren mehrere Straßenkarten und Reiseführer vorhanden, die während des Aufenthalts genutzt werden konnten und sich als sehr hilfreich erwiesen. Die Wohnung selbst lässt keine Wünsche offen. Eine vollständig eingerichtete Küche mit Geschirrspüler und Waschtrockner und jeder Menge Kochutensilien ermöglicht die stressfreie Zubereitung auch größerer Mahlzeiten. Der Schlafbereich mit einem extrem geräumigen Doppelzimmer und einem weiteren Zimmer mit zwei Einzelbetten ist vom restlichen Wohnbereich durch eine Treppe getrennt. Schlafende Personen werden hierdurch nicht durch Geräusche aus dem Wohnbereich gestört. Insgesamt ist die Schallisolierung für schottische Verhältnisse hervorragend und Geräusche von außen haben nie gestört. Die weiche Bettwäsche und das bequeme Bett trugen ihr übriges zu einem erholsamen Schlaf bei. Fort Augusts an sich eignet sich perfekt als Basis um die Highlands zu erkunden. In der Regel lassen sich sämtliche Sehenswürdigkeiten innerhalb von zwei Stunden erreichen. Ein Tagestrip nach Sky ist geradezu Pflicht und der Empfehlung von Felicity, auf der Hintour die Fähre anstatt der Brücke zu nehmen, ist unbedingt zu folgen - spektakuläre Ausblicke garantiert. Die längere Fahrzeit ist gut investiert. Abschließend können wir diese Fereinwohnung und insbesondere diesen Gastgeber nur wärmstens empfehlen. Besser kann man es - vor allem in Anbetracht des Preises - kaum machen. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Absolutely excellent!

We strictly recommend this apartment! Nice atmosphere in a caringly restored historic building. One room is located wih window to teh main road and therefore a little bit louder than the other room (double bed) which is aligned to the garden. But in the night the traffic is going down to zero. The bathroom is a highlight. The kitchen is fully equipped. Only 5 min by feet you may reach the food court of Fort Augustus.

Ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt!

Die Wohnung in Fort Augustus liegt in einem ehemaligen Konvent, das die Besitzer Felicity und Chris liebevoll und mit großer Sorgfalt renoviert haben. Unsere Wohnung war sehr gemütlich eingerichtet, sehr sauber und einfach toll! Den Kamin hätten wir gerne noch ausprobiert, aber irgendwie sind wir nicht dazu gekommen... Felicity ist eine warmherzige, tolle Vermieterin, die mit einer ganzen Menge Tipps aufwarten kann, was man sich unbedingt in den Highlands anschauen sollte. Wir empfehlen gerne und herzlich diese Vermieterin, das ehemalige Konvent und Fort Augustus weiter! Vielen Dank für einen tollen Urlaub!

We've been traveling all over Scotland for about 2 weeks, and the Old Convent has been by far the best stay we've had. It was top notch from check-in to check-out, with great recommendations, friendly hosts, and absolutely stunning accomodations. We couldn't have been happier!

Everything that you could need . Chris and Felicity made us most welcome . Great area. Cycled the banks of the Caledonian Canal, played golf on the local course ( a wee gem ) and found lots of good places to eat out in .A week to remember. Libby and Hamish McGregor
