The delightful sound of the falls is never far away while you're sitting in the cottage's garden. Alternatively, head to Waterhead Pier in Ambleside (1 mile) and climb aboard a boat to enjoy views of the Lakeland fells on a cruise to Bowness-on-Windermere or Lakeside. For a culinary treat, head into Grasmere (4 miles) to sample its world-famous gingerbread. While you're there, explore Dove Cottage, where the poet William Wordsworth once lived.

Pull up in your private parking area (there's room for two cars) and store your outdoor gear in the entrance porch. Step inside your cottage and you'll be greeted by a spacious open-plan lounge/diner that's bathed in natural light from expansive windows that frame the beautiful country views. Take a moment to appreciate the sophisticated blend of crisp white walls and natural wood furnishings, before you head to the sleek kitchen to whip up some dinner.
